British siblings, 13 and 11, who drowned off beach in Spain named

A British brother and sister who drowned off a beach on the north-eastern coast of Spain have been named as Ameiya Del Brocco, 13, and 11-year-old Ricardo Junior. Their father, Ricardo Senior, who had also entered the water, was rescued by local emergency services after the incident during a family holiday in the Catalan town of Salou on Tuesday. Ameiya, known as Maya, and Ricardo Junior, known as Jubs, were 'two beautiful, bright, and deeply loved children, taken far too soon', their cousin Holly Marquis-Johnson said. 'The pain their family is feeling is unimaginable.' She said: 'Maya was intelligent, thoughtful, and growing into a strong young woman. Ricardo Junior was playful, kind, and always smiling. They brought so much love, laughter, and energy into the lives of everyone around them. Their absence has left an unbearable silence not just for their parents, but for their whole family, who were incredibly close and shared an unbreakable bond.' Kayla Jasvinder Del-Brocco, the children's aunt, told BirminghamLive her niece and nephew had been swept away from the beach by powerful currents. 'They went out to swim together with their dad as they loved the beach. Mum said 'don't be long' and took her little one to the bathroom. She came back out and couldn't see anyone. That's when the nightmare commenced.' Emergency services were called to Llarga beach, near Tarragona, shortly after 8.45pm local time on Tuesday, Catalonia's civil protection agency has said. Ricardo Senior remains in hospital after being pulled from the water unconscious, it was reported. Jose Luis Gargallo, the head of the local police force in Salou, said on Wednesday: 'There were three people who were having serious difficulty getting out of the sea. There was a father with his son and daughter, of British nationality. 'When they got out, both of them, the boy and girl, aged 11 and 13, showed no signs of life. Attempts were made to resuscitate them with CPR, but they were unsuccessful. 'The father, fortunately, was able to be saved. He had swallowed a lot of water, he was exhausted, very fatigued, but the father was able to be saved thanks to the emergency services.' A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesperson said: 'We are supporting the family of two British children who have died in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities.' Marquis-Johnson has set up a fundraiser to help with the cost of repatriation.

‘In heaven now': Heartbreaking words of six-year-old after siblings, 11 and 13, drowned on ‘last swim' on Spain holiday

THE heartbreaking words of a six-year-old whose siblings drowned on a "final swim" in Spain have been revealed. Ameiya Del Brocco, 13, and her younger brother Ricardo Junior, 11, tragically died on Tuesday while on holiday at Llarga beach in Salou, near Tarragona. 6 6 6 6 The pair - affectionately known to their loved ones as Maya and Jubs - were swept away by fierce currents as their devastated dad tried to save them. But their six-year-old brother Casius - who was also on the holiday with the two parents and six children - is now tragically having to process the deaths. Casius is said to have told his mother: "Did you know Maya and Jubs are in heaven now? Juby went to heaven in a helicopter". The heartbreaking words were told to the Daily Mail by his aunt Macalia Del Brocco after Ricardo Jnr was airlifted to hospital. Macalia said: "So that's his understanding of it, which is bittersweet, because that was what he saw. "And it's beautiful that he thinks that's what happened, but very sadly tragic at the same time." She said Ameiya and Ricardo Jnr had asked for a final swim on Tuesday after spending the day on the beach and before returning to the hotel for the night. But the children got into trouble while swimming, with their dad going into the water afterwards to try and save them and being overwhelmed himself. Emergency crews were called and pulled the trio from the water with Ricardo Snr unconscious having swallowed water. She said Ricardo Jnr was airlifted to hospital while medics desperately tried to save the father and daughter at their hotel. Boy, 17, dies on beach after being buried alive in hole in sand he dug Sadly, the two children could not be revived, but Ricardo Snr pulled through despite swallowing a lot of water. Macalia paid tribute to her niece and nephew from Erdington, Birmingham. She said of Ameiya: "She is very, very athletic. Very determined individual. When she wanted something she was adamant she was going to get it. She was very as a character, she was very sarcastic and humorous." While she said Ricardo Jnr would do "anything" to earn a few extra quid. 6 6 Macalia said: "Junior loved doing odd jobs. Frequently in the neighbor's garden, doing her hedges for her, just to earn a few extra quid. He was quite the Dell Boy." A GoFundMe page has been launched to support the grieving family, set up by cousin Holly Marquis-Johnson to cover the costs of repatriation and funerals. Holly wrote: 'During what was meant to be a joyful family holiday in Salou, Spain, Ameiya and Ricardo Junior, lovingly known to their family and friends as Maya and Jubs, heartbreakingly lost their lives in a tragic incident at sea. 'Two beautiful, bright, and deeply loved children, taken far too soon. "The pain their family is feeling is unimaginable. 'This fundraiser has been created to help ease some of the financial burden the family is now facing, covering the costs of bringing Maya and Jubs home to the UK and giving them the dignified farewell they deserve. 'We know that no amount of money can make this right. But together, we can help carry some of the weight.' The children's GoFundMe appeal has already raised more than £30,000 of its £15,000 target. Ameiya and Ricardo's haunting final photo showed them smiling on the sand just hours before the tragedy. Local officials confirmed a yellow warning flag was flying at the time to signal rough sea conditions. But lifeguards had clocked off at 8pm — with the alarm raised just before 8.50pm. A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesperson said: 'We are supporting the family of two British children who have died in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities.'

A 'deeply loved' British brother and sister who drowned off a beach while on a family holiday in Spain have been named and pictured. Ameiya, 13, and Ricardo Junior, 11, died in the tragic incident on the north-eastern coast of the country on Tuesday evening, according to a GoFundMe page. Their aunt revealed the pair had gone for a swim with their father before the 'nightmare' in Salou unfolded as the trio got into trouble in the water. Emergency services were called to Llarga beach, near Tarragona, shortly after 8.45pm local time, Catalonia's Civil Protection agency said. The children, who were swept away from the beach by powerful currents, died at the scene despite immediate treatment, according to local media. Their father survived. According to BirminghamLive, their aunt Kayla Jasvinder Del-Brocco said: 'They went out to swim together with their dad as they loved the beach. 'Mum said 'don't be long' and took her little one to the bathroom. She came back out and couldn't see anyone. That's when the nightmare commenced.' Local police, medical and fire services all attended the incident, while a team of psychologists were also at the scene to assist the victims' family. The fundraiser, set up to support the family, as well as to bring the children home, said: 'Nothing could ever prepare a parent for the pain of losing a child, let alone losing two. 'During what was meant to be a joyful family holiday in Salou, Spain, Ameiya, 13, and Ricardo Junior, 11, lovingly known to their family and friends as Maya and Jubs, heartbreakingly lost their lives in a tragic incident at sea. 'Two beautiful, bright, and deeply loved children, taken far too soon. The pain their family is feeling is unimaginable.' Ameiya was described as 'intelligent, thoughtful, and growing into a strong young woman', while was 'playful, kind, and always smiling'. 'They brought so much love, laughter, and energy into the lives of everyone around them,' said Holly Marquis-Johnson, who organised the GoFundMe. 'Their absence has left an unbearable silence not just for their parents, but for their whole family, who were incredibly close and shared an unbreakable bond.' Catalonia's Civil Protection agency initially said two brothers died, but Jose Luis Gargallo, the head of the local police force in Salou, later said it was a brother and sister. At a news conference on Wednesday, Mr Gargallo told reporters: 'There were three people who were having serious difficulty getting out of the sea. There was a father with his son and daughter, of British nationality. 'When they got out, both of them, the boy and girl, aged 11 and 13, showed no signs of life. Attempts were made to resuscitate them with CPR, but they were unsuccessful.' A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesperson said: 'We are supporting the family of two British children who have died in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities.' The deaths come after several other British people died while abroad in southern Europe this month. Scots Gary Kelly, 19, and Evan Thomson, 26, died at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel in San Antonio, Ibiza, while King Edonmi, 29, and Mo Liasu, 27, both from Ipswich, died after drowning in a hotel swimming pool in Albufeira, Portugal.

Brit tourist drowns in Turkey after he's 'found motionless' during boat tour

Despite attempts to resuscitate him, the man died after being discovered by sailors. His death came hours after another Brit drowned in Majorca and two young siblings perished A fourth British holidaymaker has drowned this week after the death of a 47-year-old man on Thursday. ‌ The tourist entered the sea in Marmaris, on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey, during a boat tour, but was later found motionless in the water. The man, who has not yet been named, was discovered by sailors. According to reports, police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of his death. ‌ The sailors pulled him from the water and took him to shore where the Coast Guard attempted to save his life. But despite the medical assistance, the man was pronounced dead. His body was then taken to the Mugla Forensic Medicine Institute to determine the cause of his death. It comes after girl, 3, was found dead on beach by a horrified passer-by. ‌ Last night, the siblings who tragically drowned at sea during a family trip in Salou in Spain were named. Ameiya, 13, and her 11-year-old brother, Ricardo Junior, from Birmingham, went into the sea on their visit to Llarga beach, near Tarragona before getting into trouble. The siblings, described by loved ones as "beautiful" and "bright", were given treatment following the "incident at sea" but sadly did not survive. The heartbreaking news came a day after another Brit drowned while abroad after being discovered at a hotel pool in Majorca - minutes from the Love Island villa. Paramedics on the island rushed to the three-star BJ Playa Blanca Hotel, in S'Illot, roughly 17 minutes in a car from the the Love Island villa, after receiving an alert about a man found face down in the water. The alarm was raised just after 8.30am on Wednesday. Emergency medical organisation SAMU told the Mirror that the man was 52 years old, while the Civil Guard insisted their information was that he was 72. SAMU said in a statement: 'A British man aged 52 has been found floating face down in the swimming pool of a hotel in s'Illot. ‌ "He was pulled out of the water and basic resuscitation manoeuvres were practiced on him until the first ambulances arrived when it was confirmed he had gone into cardiac arrest. Despite attempts to resuscitate him he died. The alarm was raised at 8.37am this morning." An air ambulance is also said to have been mobilised. Island police have launched an investigation and are understood to be at the scene but have yet to make an official comment. The three-star BJ Playa Blanca Hotel is located between the beaches of S'Illott and Sa Coma. The hotel has 100 rooms. It says on its website: "We offer access to the best white sand beaches and mountainous areas of the island. Find spectacular scenery and enjoy the promenade that runs along the coast and connects the two beaches.' It was not immediately clear if the dead man was holidaying alone or with friends or family. The Civil Guard confirmed on Tuesday morning officers were at the hotel and an investigation was underway. They also confirmed the dead man was British - but insisted their information was that he was 72 and not 52 as emergency medical responders had reported earlier. S'Illot is a small tourist town on the east coast of Majorca, with the area boasting a number of resorts, restaurants and bars. With crystal clear waters and a sandy beach, it is perhaps not as busy as Palma but does boast a 3000-year-old archaeological site, dating back to the late Bronze Age. The area is just a short drive from Love Island villa Sa Vinyassa, which is located in a rural area closer to Sant Llorenc des Cardassar. In September last year a teenage British holidaymaker was left fighting for life after plunging headfirst from the first floor of her hotel in the same resort. The drama happened at Playamar Hotel & Apartamentos.
