They've given themselves a two-goal cushion heading into the second leg in Greece next week after goals from Findlay Curtis and new signing Djeidi Gassama. Before the match, new boss Martin revealed the managerial great had been in contact through his son Darren - who Martin played under at Peterborough - to show his support. The 83-year-old was shown around the club's training centre at Auchenhowie along with club legend John Greig in the build up to Tuesday night's crucial qualifier. And he parted his wisdom and some inspirational words to the players and staff. Martin said: "We had two Rangers legends and a legend of the game this week who supports this club and they all had the same conversation with every single one about what this club means to them and we have to represent that as much as we can." Ferguson played for Rangers between 1967 and 1969, but is more famous for his managerial success at Aberdeen winning the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1983, and his remarkable achievements at United winning 13 Premier League titles and the Champions League twice. Martin added: 'The door is open to people who have had success here, they know what it takes, they know what the club is about, they support the club, they feel what it means to be here and be part of it. 'Anyone that can impart some wisdom on that and some experience, and people who have had big success here as well, is hugely helpful to me, to the staff, to the players." Also watching on from the stands on Tuesday were new chairman Andrew Cavenagh and vice chair Paraag Marathe who is head of the 49ers Enterprises - the commercial arm of NFL side San Francisco 49ers. The Bell's Whisky League Championship Trophy from the 1996-1997 season will go up for auction on Thursday June 19 at Glasgow-based McTear's, which is one of the oldest independent auction houses in the UK. But the trophy - which is 21 centimetres wide - that Gough held aloft just over 28 years ago will be up for auction at a special event next month. The lucky buyer of the trophy will also receive the piece of silverware in it's original box with paperwork from the Scottish Football Museum verifying it's authenticity. The trophy's estimated value is between £9,000-12,000. Brian Laudrup's goal in a 1-0 victory for the Ibrox side over Dundee United at Tannadice was enough to seal the SPL title for the 1996/97 season. Rangers captain Richard Gough was presented with a special league trophy on the pitch after the match. Read more: It can now be bought and is up for auction on Bidding starts on Thursday, June 19, with the estimated price sitting between £9,000 and £12,000. The trophy comes with the original box and paperwork from the Scottish Football Museum confirming its authenticity. As we enter the new 2025/26 campaign, Rangers remain on the hunt for a new permanent manager. Barry Ferguson took interim charge of the team following Philippe Clement's dismissal. He won't be getting the permanent gig, though, with names such as Russell Martin, Sean Dyche, and Davide Ancelotti all mentioned in connection with the hotseat. The latter was previously expected to follow his father, Carlo, to Brazil, although that is no longer the case: "Davide is currently in negotiations with a European team, and it didn't seem right to bring him in," said Ancelotti Sr on Monday evening. "If he goes to a club, I wish him the best, and if not, he can come back to us."
