Horse racing tips: ‘He can fly home with a big weight allowance' – Templegate's 6-1 NAP and one ‘at a huge price'
TEMPLEGATE tackles Saturday's action confident of building the bank for Epsom next week. Back a horse by clicking their odds below. LOOM (York 2.40, nap) Richard Fahey's three-year-old gets a hefty weight allowance from his older rivals and he's already shown enough to win this. After a promising comeback fifth at Newmarket last month, he found a lot more when second here in a big field last time. He might have won had he been a bit closer to the pace before flying home. This is his sixth start so he's still learning and there's more to come. ESTRANGE (2.58 Haydock, nb) This filly to follow finished last season with a smooth Listed success at Doncaster over 1m2f. She is from the family of St Leger winner Logician so will relish this stiffer test of stamina. She can improve for David O'Meara on just her fourth racecourse outing. WITCH HUNTER (2.10 Chester, treble) Looks a massive price after a good effort at Ascot last time. He has copped a handy draw in stall two and has had a nudge down the weights. He'll be right there for Richard Hannon. YORK 2.40 LOOM ran a cracker here two weeks ago when second in a big field handicap. That was just his second run of the campaign and he should take another step forward for it. His draw in stall three should be ideal and he's best over this trip. JM Jungle has a strong record at York and was second here earlier this month in good company. The Quinn yard is in decent form and he'll be right there again. Duran got the job done nicely at Haydock over this trip last time and a 4lb rise keeps him right in the hunt. Kodiac Thriller got the job done nicely when scooting in over this distance at Thirsk 14 days ago. An 8lb rise in and hike in grade gives him more to do but he's capable of better. Bond Chairman could be a big price on debut for a new yard. He's been out of sorts for a while so has tumbled to 11lb below his last winning mark and this distance is ideal. 3.15 TERM OF ENDEARMENT stormed home to win this last year and can repeat the feat having left Henry De Bromhead for William Haggas. Her return in Dubai was always going to be a warm-up, especially over a trip that stretches her a little. She'll love getting back over 1m6f at an ideal track on ground that suits. Scenic shaped with promise on return at Goodwood last time and looks the main danger. All her best form has come over 1m4f so far but she was staying on strongly last time and should see this out in decent conditions. Sueno was behind her last time having just her third start. She was coming back from a long break so could easily close the gap especially with Ryan Moore in the saddle. Divina Grace was a well-beaten third in a Newmarket Group 2 latest and needs to prove her stamina for this longer distance. HAYDOCK 1.48 FINE INTERVIEW has a run under his belt thanks to a neck third in a big field at Donny in March. He finished last season with an impressive distance win on Town Moor and has more to come. He will enjoy a little bit of juice in the ground and William Buick can steer him home. Durham Castle will go very close if fit for this comeback run. He scored on the sand at Southwell before winning easily on handicap debut at Goodwood in September. He's up 9lb for that smooth success over this trip but he looks capable of improving past that with the Crisford training ream in decent form. Tinto finished strongly when beaten on the nod over 5f at Thirsk earlier this month. He shapes as though going back up in trip will help. Oisin Murphy getting back on board is a plus for King's Lynn who is on the downgrade but still has enough quality to figure. Kodi Lion has been second in good company at Ascot and Donny heading here and likes this trip. He could still be improving. Evergreen Dakota Gold scored at Ripon last time and likes it here. He has place claims up 3lb. 2.23 SHAGRAAN could be overpriced given how well he's been running in hot handicaps. He was in a blanket finish at Doncaster before running another cracker in a big field at York 16 days ago. He has winning form over course and distance and doesn't mind dead ground. Jasour is interesting coming back from a long break. He was third in the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup at last year's Royal Ascot so has class. This is his easiest race for a long time on paper and he's gone well fresh before. No Half Measures looked rusty on comeback at Newmarket earlier this month. He has some smart form over this trip and should build on that return effort. Leovanni was a classy two-year-old and won the Group 2 Queen Mary which is top form. She doesn't want more rain as her Cheveley Park effort on soft ground was her worst of the season. Rage Of Bamby will be sharper for her comeback struggle at York last time but her best efforts have come over further. Seven Questions also needed his comeback at HQ and has run well here before. 2.58 ESTRANGE finished last season with an impressive Listed win over 1m2f at Doncaster on soft ground. She gives the stronger impression that this step up in trip will bring more improvement and there should be a little bit of juice in the ground which she likes. Shaha took a big step up when moving up to this distance at Goodwood on comeback earlier this month. She had plenty left in the tank crossing the line and her fitness is assured. Beautiful Love has her sights lowered slightly after a well-beaten second at York last time. She isn't screaming out for this longer trip but should see it out. She needs a little step up to get her head back in front. The rest need to improve a bundle with Chorus looking the pick despite being no match for Shaha last time out. She is proven over this distance and may improve for that run. 3.33 ALYANAABI looked a different horse on his first run since being gelded here last time. He stormed home over course and distance and looks the type to improve as a four-year-old. Kinross looks the big danger on comeback. He won this way back in 2021 and wasn't disgraced in Group 1s last season. He may not be the force he was but he still has enough to figure. Audience landed Group 2 honours at Glorious Goodwood last year before not enjoying himself dropped to 6f. He is back over his ideal trip here and had a run in Dubai last month so should be fit. His best form would take him close. Spycatcher landed a cosy win at Doncaster on comeback in March and has held his own at this level before. Bring it on – Hannon counting down to Ascot with Rosallion
Richard Hannon believes Rosallion will be a different proposition come the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot. Winner of the St James's Palace Stakes and Irish Guineas last season, he was having his first start for the best part of year when third in the Lockinge to Lead Artist. In fourth was Notable Speech, who beat Rosallion in the 2000 Guineas but finished behind him at Ascot, and the pair look like meeting once again. 'I'm not going to lie, it was a little bit disappointing not to win, but he ran a super race,' Hannon told Sky Sports Racing. 'The reason he got beat in the Guineas last year, it's because he needs that first run. That was evident last year and even more evident this year now he's a year older. 'We're looking forward to Royal Ascot. Sean (Levey) got off and said he'd win the Queen Anne. I spoke to Charlie Appleby afterwards and he said Will (Buick) said he'd win it, so here we go again! 'It will be a fantastic race that we all can't wait for and he'll go there full on. 'You can win with horses in two-year-old races who haven't had a run, but at that level it counts. Some in the Lockinge were having their second or third runs of the year and my fellow was having his first run. 'Naturally ours improve for their first run and horses like him especially so. I'm not saying he's a certainty, but I'm looking forward to it.'

On a day of top class I action I'm tipping this 7-1 chance to run a huge race at Newmarket
IF it was a heavyweight boxing decider the world would be going mad – and in racing terms Notable Speech vs Rosallion is just that as they smash up once again at Newbury. The two Guineas heroes slug it out in the Group 1 Boylesports Lockinge Stakes at 2.35 — a one-mile contest won by some of the greats like Brigadier Gerard, Selkirk, Canford Cliffs, Frankel and Baaeed. 1 A race-fit Notable Speech defeated Rosallion in last year's 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket, running on powerfully to deny the Richard Hannon-trained runner by a length and a half. Rosallion, though, would go on to the Curragh and take the Irish 2,000 before gaining his revenge on his old rival in the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot. That day Notable Speech flopped in seventh, while Rosallion, under regular partner Sean Levey, proved he was a tough nut in denying Henry Longfellow. Afterwards, Notable Speech returned to his best in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood and when a slightly unlucky third in the Breeders' Cup Mile at Del Mar in the autumn. But he proved he wasn't bombproof once again when only fifth to Tribalist in the Prix du Moulin at Longchamp. Maybe he hated the soft ground that day. So now we have round three of Notable Speech vs Rosallion. I'm in the former camp as I think he might have better turn of foot. But it's hard to be dogmatic with both colts making their seasonal debut. Charlie Appleby, the trainer of Notable Speech, had the 2023 Lockinge winner Modern Games go in after he ran at the Breeders' Cup the previous year. However, that horse had an outing in Keeneland the month before the Newbury test. Make no mistake this is no two-horse race. Dancing Gemini might easily be good enough for Roger Teal after two fabulous successes this term at Doncaster and Sandown. He has back class at this level in the French Derby where he was a decent runner-up as a three-year-old. Ryan Moore rides Dancing Gemini for the first time. Kieran Shoemark, who rode him at Doncaster, is now on Karl Burke's Fallen Angel, an Irish 1,000 Guineas heroine, while Rossa Ryan, who was aboard Dancing Gemini at Sandown last time, picks up David Menuisier's Tamfana, who was second at the Esher track. In a right old jockey merry-go-round, Oisin Murphy, who usually gets the Tamfana gig, switches to Lead Artist, a horse who has gone so well for Shoemark in the past! One can only presume Murphy is on Lead Artist to keep mega owner Juddmonte happy although, to be fair, the John Gosden runner is rated 117 to Tamfana's 116. What a race. Just sit back and enjoy it. That also goes for Newbury's opening Group 3 Sky Sports Racing Aston Park Stakes over a mile and a half at 12.50pm. Some old favourites here, including the return of the former Ascot Gold Cup victor Courage Mon Ami. He's been off the track since August of 2023 so will surely need the run and further in time. The in-form Al Aasy tries to repeat his success in 2021 and is raring to go for William Haggas, while King's Gambit runs for Harry Charlton having been gelded. He's only tried this trip once before so stamina is a question. The one that is worth a second look here is Sunway, who gets Shoemark on top for the first time. There is no doubt the Menuisier runner is a bit of a character, and he holds his head high in the finish. You actually have to go back to his juvenile days for the last time Sunway actually won a race, but he's run well in defeat — including when second to Los Angeles in the Irish Derby and fourth to the mighy Goliath in the King George at Ascot. I like him each-way but, with no natural front-runner in the line-up, only time will tell whether he's held on to or connections employ a change of tactics. Elsewhere I'm hoping for a huge run from Original Outlaw (1.40) in the JCB Handicap at Newmarket. He's another to have been gelded, and he promised quite a bit as a youngster, with a fine second at Salisbury to the Group-placed Royal Playwright. That level of ability should mean he takes all the beating in a race like this rated 85 and the trip is ideal. Ralph Beckett trains and Richard Kingscote takes the ride once again. I suspect the latter could go well in all the ITV races at HQ. Good luck to all and Yeeehaaa! Vintage Lockinge headlines fantastic Newbury card, while Doomben 10000 also excites
Group One contest in Britain includes a trio of horses who will mix it at the top table this season Top-class trio Dancing Gemini, Rosallion and Notable Speech will lock horns in a thrilling Group One Lockinge Stakes (1,600m) at Newbury on Saturday. The Roger Teal-trained Dancing Gemini finished second in last year's Group One Poule d'Essai des Poulains (1,600m) at Longchamp and was far from disgraced when sixth in the Epsom Derby (2,000m) on his next start. Top-level success has continued to elude the Camelot galloper, but he has returned this season in career-best form, winning the Listed Doncaster Mile and Group Two Bet365 Mile at Sandown in two appearances this season. He is thriving at the distance and Teal has procured the services of one of the world's best jockeys in Ryan Moore to try and help him finally get over the hump and bag his maiden Group One. 🚀 Very smooth from Dancing Gemini to plunder the @bet365 Mile — Racing TV (@RacingTV) April 25, 2025 There is further intrigue, however, with the return of Richard Hannon's Rosallion, who has been absent since winning the Group One St James's Palace Stakes (1,600m) at Royal Ascot last June. That was his third top-level win and led Hannon to speculate that he was the best horse he had ever trained prior to the galloper being ruled out of last season with a respiratory infection. He is the class act of the race on paper but shares the top rating with a horse he clashed with twice last year – Group One 2,000 Guineas (1,600m) hero Notable Speech in the Godolphin blue. Notable Speech won the day when they locked horns at Newmarket but Rosallion levelled the score at Royal Ascot, with round three set to be another fascinating clash. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐜𝐡 ⭐️⭐️⭐️@Godolphin's unbeaten colt wins the Qipco 2000 Guineas @NewmarketRace on his first start on turf 😱 City Of Troy well beaten .... — Racing TV (@RacingTV) May 4, 2024 Meanwhile, the Group One Ladbrokes Doomben 10000 (1,200m) headlines a brilliant card in Queensland, with Overpass among the leading chances. Trained by Bjorn Baker, Overpass won the Group One Winterbottom Stakes (1,200m) last November and maintained his good form in two runs in April, including a second in the Group One T J Smith Stakes (1,200m). One of his biggest dangers will be Group One William Reid Stakes (1,200m) winner Schwarz, who will be ridden by Hong Kong Derby-winning rider Craig Williams in place of regular jockey Blake Shinn. Williams has won the past two runnings of the race on Giga Kick and Bella Nipotina and connections will hope Williams can weave his magic again before Schwarz is retired after the HK$7.33 million showpiece. Schwarz was utterly brilliant in the William Reid Stakes, finding the lead from the outset & pounding his opposition into the turf 💫 Where to next for @JohnOSheaRacing's Group 1 winning son of Zoustar? — (@Racing) March 22, 2025 Benedetta is another threat for trainer Jason Warren, who is hoping to avenge the William Reid Stakes defeat at the hands of Schwarz. 'Schwarz had the track in his favour at Moonee Valley [in the William Reid Stakes], it was a terrible track that day,' Warren said. 'Hopefully, he's not getting that advantage this week. 'We're going to Doomben with fresh legs, which will definitely help. She's in great form and she hasn't had an overly taxing preparation so far.'
