Perry man allegedly killed wife to ‘put her out of her misery,' court documents say

PERRY, Iowa — A Perry man is charged with murder after police say he called 911 Sunday night and confessed to killing his wife. Richard Hoesing, 75, is being held in the Dallas County Jail. The Perry Police Department said its officers responded to 2615 Lucinda Street around 8:42 p.m. after receiving a 911 call from Richard. Woman injured in Highway 5 rollover crash Monday morning A criminal complaint filed in the case said Richard told Dallas County Dispatch that he had killed his wife Jean Hoesing, 74. The complaint said Richard told dispatchers he 'killed her to put her out of her misery' because she suffered from Bipolar condition and M.S. Jean's body was found in a bedroom on the main floor and it appeared she had a 'severe laceration across the front of her throat,' according to the complaint. A small wooden-handled kitchen knife was found in the bathroom, which an officer said looked to have been cleaned but had what appeared to be blood on the tip. Blood was also found on Richard's hands and clothes. PPD said Richard was cooperative with officers before being transported to the Perry Police Department and eventually being charged with first-degree murder. He was then taken to the Dallas County Jail to be booked.
