Palmerston, NT: Woman dead, two people trapped after fatal crash
A woman has died and two others were cut from their cars after a two-vehicle collision in the Northern Territory. A Nissan X-Trail carrying three people collided with a Toyota Corolla, which was carrying one person on Kirkland Rd in Durack in Darwin's satellite city Palmerston about 5.10am on Wednesday. One woman inside the Nissan was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the Toyota and a passenger in the Nissan had to be cut from the wrecked vehicles by emergency services. The fatal collision marks the 12th death on Northern Territory roads this year, with Detective Sergeant Richard Musgrave urging drivers to take road safety seriously. 'We are urging Territorians to take the Fatal Five seriously,' he said. 'Don't drink and drive, don't drive fatigued or distracted, don't speed and always wear your seatbelt.' Kirkland Rd has been closed between Elrundie Ave and Wishart Rd while police investigate the crash. Anyone with information about the collision or has dashcam footage is urged to contact police. Driver killed, two people trapped as cars crash in Palmerston, NT
Survivors were cut from two cars involved in a crash that killed a woman on Wednesday. One of the survivors was travelling alone in a Toyota Corolla which collided with a Nissan X-trail carrying three others on Kirkland Rd, at Durack, in the north of Darwin 's satellite city Palmerston, about 5.10am. One woman inside the Nissan died at the scene, Northern Territory Police said. The Toyota driver and one of the surviving Nissan occupants had to be freed from the wreckage by emergency services. Both lanes of Kirkland Rd are expected to be closed between Elrundie Ave and Wishart Rd until midmorning on Wednesday. NT Police detective sergeant Richard Musgrave warned motorists 'to take the Fatal Five seriously'. 'Don't drink and drive, don't drive fatigued or distracted, don't speed and always wear your seatbelt.' The death marks the 12th life lost on NT roads this year. Investigations into the crash remain ongoing.
