Richland County students, teachers benefit from $1.8M in grants
The Richland County Foundation Board of Trustees approved $1,835,608 in grants during its August meeting.
A significant portion of the funding was designated for education, including $901,400 in college scholarships for 326 Richland County students. Scholarships are based on financial need and grade point average, with the average award this year at $2,765, according to a community announcement.
The board also approved 21 career technical education scholarships, with $87,748 in CTE scholarships approved so far this year. In addition, nearly $67,000 in education grants was planned for K-12 teachers in public or private Richland County schools. Those grants are intended to help teachers develop new classroom programs and are funded through unrestricted and field of interest funds, according to the announcement.
Education grants are selected by a committee of board members and community representatives for creative and innovative programs not covered by regular school funding.
