The protest, held on Monday at Vanapa Hall Square in Aizawl, drew participation from various state-based organisations across the northeast.
Led by Neso coordinator H Hrangkunga, the event featured speeches from Neso vice-chairman Ricky Lalbiakmawia and MZP president H Lalthianghlima. Lalthianghlima voiced concerns over the escalating influx of illegal Bangladeshi migrants, particularly into Assam, warning of potential spill-over effects into Mizoram.
He called for stringent border security measures, urging Mizoram to 'awaken to the growing threat'.
Echoing these sentiments, Lalbiakmawia criticised the central govt for its inaction, highlighting the ongoing threat illegal migration poses to the socio-cultural fabric and demographic balance of the North East. He demanded stricter laws and effective measures to curb the issue.
The protest also saw the presentation of Neso's memorandum, which outlined key demands such as enhanced border control, a comprehensive review of the immigration situation, and legal protections for indigenous communities. The organisations warned that unchecked illegal migration threatens the region's cultural and political stability, urging immediate government intervention to safeguard the northeast's identity and future.
