District police cook up unity in cook-off
A cooking competition has brought a renewed sense of unity and strengthened bonds among Tshwane police members. SAPS spokesperson, Captain Johan Van Dyk said the Tshwane district hosted a potjiekos competition on August 8, which brought together service members to showcase their culinary skills. 'Members from stations across Tshwane gathered in a spirit of unity and healthy competition to showcase their culinary skills.' He said the teams competed for the Tshwane District Potjiekos Champion title. 'With secret recipes in hand and a passion for excellence, teams worked side by side to create culinary masterpieces worthy of the coveted title,' he said. According to him, the event proved to be far more than a test of cooking skills. 'It became a celebration of teamwork, creativity, and the shared commitment that bound the Tshwane district family together.' Van Dyk said each station brought not only their finest ingredients, but also their energy, humour, and unwavering team spirit. He said their energy transformed the competition into a vibrant showcase of morale and togetherness. 'From the carefully guarded cooking techniques to the imaginative decorations aimed at charming the judges, every detail reflected the pride and originality of the participants,' he said. He added that bonds were strengthened, morale was lifted, and a renewed sense of unity spread throughout the district as the aroma of simmering potjiekos filled the air. 'From the outset, the competition was fierce, with all teams pulling out all the stops; presenting brilliant decorations, exceptional cooking techniques, and flavourful recipes to impress the judges.' He said although the judges were overwhelmed by the outstanding results, only one winner could be chosen. 'Rietgat SAPS claimed the honours, with Sinoville SAPS securing second place and Hercules SAPS taking third.' #sapsGP Arthur Block Park is abuzz with meaty aroma filling the air from the pots of 'potjiekos' on fire as Team Gauteng participate in a Potjiekos Competition to raise funds for South African Police Service Education Trust (#SAPSET) this Friday, 08 August 2025 in Mayfair.… — SA Police Service 🇿🇦 (@SAPoliceService) August 8, 2025 Van Dyk said the competition was not only an opportunity for friendly rivalry, but also served a noble cause. 'All proceeds from the event were dedicated to supporting the educational needs of the children of SAPS members who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving and protecting their communities,' he added. He said through this collective effort, the Tshwane district reaffirmed its commitment to standing together as one family, ensuring that the legacy of fallen members lives on through the opportunities afforded to their loved ones. 'These brave men and women gave their lives in the line of duty, and this initiative aimed to honour their memory by investing in the future of their children,' he said.
