BJP state VP seeks revision of internal reservation report to ensure justice for Holeya and Madiga communities

Mysuru: Former minister and BJP state vice-president N Mahesh on Thursday urged Karnataka govt to revise Justice Nagamohan Das commission report on internal reservation before implementing, to ensure justice for the Holeya and Madiga communities. Speaking to reporters, Mahesh emphasised that the report should be revised and updated to prevent any injustice to these communities. "Justice Nagamohan Das Commission, formed following the Madiga community's struggle for internal reservation, identified 101 castes, categorised them into five groups, and allocated reservations based on population. A sub-community of the Holeya community was placed in a separate category with a 1% reservation, while the Madiga community was allocated 6%. As a whole, the Holeya community received 5%. This subdivision within the Holeya community is unfair," he said. "The sub-category must be merged, and the Holeya community must be given 6% reservation," he added. He further called for reducing the number of categories from five to four to ensure equitable reservation for both communities. "We are not opposing Justice Nagamohan Das report but requesting its revision. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo The govt must not reject the report. It could lead to conflicts between the Holeya and Madiga communities," Mahesh stated. The Karnataka state right-hand castes federation staged a protest march in the city, demanding the rejection and review of internal reservation report submitted by the commission. The protesters marched from the town hall to the DC's office, where they held a demonstration. The federation criticised the report and alleged that the commission's recommendations violated govt regulations and exceeded its authority, resulting in injustice to the Right-Hand, Holeya, Chalavadi, and related communities. The protesters claimed that the survey was conducted by unauthorised individuals due to lack of identity cards for enumerators. They further noted discrepancies in Chitradurga district, where other castes were recorded instead of the afore mentioned communities.
