Last chance to save your home security videos before they're ALL deleted as Ring rival renders 3 popular gadgets useless

HOUSEHOLDS kitted out with a major Ring doorbell rival have been warned their devices will stop working entirely in a matter of days. And all video recordings will be deleted unless you take action immediately. Three gadgets, including a video security camera and a siren, have been discontinued by Hive. The company's home security alarm system, Homeshield, will also cease to function from August 1. Hive - which is owned by British Gas parent company Centrica - started out in 2012. It's mainly known for smart heating as well as smart lighting, both of which are not affected by the upcoming changes. Hive eventually broadened out into smart security. But three years ago bosses decided to step away from security products to focus on "energy-efficient smart-tech" instead. The devices have continued to work since then but the final nail will go into the coffin next week. See the four products being killed off below. Hive View Camera Hive Siren and Keypad Hive Homeshield Hive Video Playback Despite being security-relate products, the Hive Window/Door contact sensors and Hive motion sensors will continue to operate. Ring's flying 'spy drone' that monitors your home in the AIR 'coming 2026' – it stalks burglars & even recharges itself In an email warning sent out to customers recently, Hive said to "download any footage you'd like to keep now". After 11am on August 1 it will be deleted. "It is crucial that you save any required recordings before the cut-off period on the 1st of August 2025," Hive says. "Your data security is important to us, and we take disposal of data seriously. "Therefore, our system will be unable to recover any video footage if you fail to save your recordings before the 1st of August 2025." It also recommends customers "recycle your devices at your local Household Waste Recycling Centre". WHY DOES TECH STOP WORKING? By Jamie Harris, Assistant Technology and Science Editor at The Sun It's annoying when tech and gadgets are discontinued, rendering some - or all - features useless. Fortunately, companies have got better at lengthening how long they support kit. It tends to only happen after quite a few years have passed and the user numbers have dropped quite low. The truth of the matter is, firms have to keep updating and servicing this older tech which costs them money. When there's only a small number of people left using them older gadgets, it's harder to justify the cost. Moreover, new features on things like apps may not work on dated kit. So ultimately, in the end support is dropped for these gadgets so all their energy, money and time can be put into the newer ones.

Ring doorbell users' hack fears as customers say unknown devices gained access to accounts

Ring doorbell users have flooded TikTok with alarming claims that their accounts were hacked, giving strangers access to their cameras. Videos shared on social media show customers claiming Ring was hit by a 'massive hack,' sparking fears of compromised security. One user posted a screenshot showing multiple unfamiliar logins to her account, including three iPhones, as well as Safari and Chrome browsers. She warned others, showing how to manually remove unrecognised devices from the Ring app to block future access. The user said: 'Ring camera had a mass hack on May 28 2025 and failed to notify other customers or users of their app. 'I was in fact one of those people that were also hacked. I just went to checked it and they have failed to notify or acknowledge the concern of security breach.' However, Ring has now come forward to clarify what the issue is and to put its customers at ease that no security breach has taken place. Users who watched the video were panicking and started sharing their experiences. One user said: 'Yesterday me and another neighbour tried to post about it in the neighbourhood section of the app, it went through and none of the comments appeared. Today both posts were deleted. Sketch!!' Another said: 'I've had three devices; safari, iPhone and iPad. I don't own an iPad.' But according to the company and tech experts, it's not a data breach - just a glitch. According to a tech news website, the issue wasn't the result of a data breach but rather a glitch caused by ab update from Ring, which led to prior login dates being incorrectly shown as May 28, 2025, and device names being displayed as 'Device name not found.' This update affected every device which has been used to connect to Ring which means even old phones, laptops, tablets, and other devices showed up as new logins. On its website, the company said: 'We are aware of an issue where information is displaying inaccurately in Control Centre. 'This is the result of a backend update, and we're working to resolve this.

Moment man caught making ‘lewd' sex gesture at neighbour's doorbell camera … but cops say ‘he just had ANTS in pants'

A MAN caught on a Ring doorbell making an allegedly lewd gesture at the homeowner was let off by police - after he told them "I had ants in my pants". Gabrielle Davies, 21, from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, claims she was standing at her doorway when the man made the crude motion towards her. 3 3 3 She was able to save the footage of the incident, which shows the man in the neighbouring garden look toward Gabrielle's front door before making what appears to be a mock- masturbating motion with his hands down his pants. Disabled Gabrielle called South Yorkshire Police, who came and took a statement from her community nurse. According to an email seen by The Sun, the investigating officer says she tracked down the man in the video footage, who does not live at the residence and is not based in South Yorkshire. However, the police told Gabrielle in an email: "He has given his version of events, stating that he was shaking ants [from] his shorts due to being sat on the grass prior. "He states that he did not see Gabrielle or speak to her at any point." The officer adds that it would be hard to prove malicious intent without seeing the footage leading up to the incident. As a result, the policewoman said the investigation has been closed following a discussion with her duty sergeant. Gabrielle, who lives in the house with her partner Joseph, said: "When the police went to speak to him he said he was shaking ants from his pants. "I really don't know how she believed that. I feel like it's not been investigated properly. "His excuse was pathetic, his gesture was clearly directed to me. Monster GUILTY of stabbing Daniel Anjorin, 14, to death and slashing at cops with Samurai sword in 'ferocious' rampage "People online are saying my neighbours are angry because the Ring doorbell is pointed into their garden but it's actually just pointing straight out from our front door. "I want the police to reinvestigate it, he needs to be charged with indecency. I'm classed as a vulnerable person being disabled." A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: "We take every report of crime seriously, with a full investigation launched into this incident. "Following numerous enquiries, including the gathering of CCTV and witness statements, this investigation was filed due to a lack of a realistic prospect of conviction."
