Who are the walk on quarterbacks on LSU football's roster?
LSU football quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is locked into LSU's QB1 job. LSU expects to have one of college football's top passing attacks with Nussmeier leading the charge. It's always a plus for an offense when it knows who its starter is at QB. The offseason is spent on developing the offense rather than sorting out personnel. Down the depth chart, there are more questions. LSU signed transfer QB Michael Van Buren from Mississippi State. Van Buren started as a freshman at Mississippi State in 2024 and gives LSU another QB on the roster with SEC experience. The Tigers also return Colin Hurley, who took a redshirt in 2024 and missed spring practice recovering from an injury. Hurley is healthy again and has been with the team for the entirety of fall camp. LSU head coach Brian Kelly said Van Buren and Hurley have had their moments, but he wants to see more consistency. Also listed as a quarterback is Ju'Juan Jennings. But with LSU's running back depth being tested, Jennings might get more reps there. LSU has enough QBs on the roster to navigate the season, even with injuries, but let's check out who LSU has on the roster as a walk-on quarterback for the 2025 season. Emile Picarella, three-star, class of 2025 LSU didn't sign a scholarship quarterback in the class of 2025, so it bolstered the depth with the addition of Emile Picarella from University Lab High School in Baton Rouge. Picarella was a three-star and ranked as the No. 83 QB in the country, per the Rivals Industry Rankings. Picarella earned the attention of several SEC teams early in his recruitment and had chances to take a scholarship at a lesser program, but Picarella opted to play SEC football in his hometown. Tre People, three-star, class of 2025 People was another addition in the class of 2025, but LSU went all the way to California to find him. Per Rivals, People was the No. 2575-ranked player and No. 159-ranked quarterback. People had offers from UNLV and Portland State. He drew some Power Four looks at different points during his recruitment.

LSU football pushing to land two top remaining recruits in Louisiana
National signing day is months away, but most of college football's top 2026 recruits are off the board. In Louisiana, 15 of the state's top 17 players are committed, per the Rivals Industry Rankings. Eight of those players are committed to LSU, but the Tigers hope that number will grow in the coming months. Of that 17, the two without a commitment are linebacker JaMichael Garrett and defensive lineman Darryus McKinley. LSU has a chance to land both. McKinley is the younger brother of current LSU defensive tackle Dominick McKinley. ESPN and Rivals both rank McKinley as a top-40 defensive tackle in the class. He earned a fourth star from ESPN, but remains a three-star recruit at Rivals and 247Sports. LSU has been considered the heavy favorite for most of McKinley's recruitment. According to the Rivals Prediction Machine, LSU has a 99% chance of landing the defensive tackle. He would join a loaded defensive line class that includes Lamar Brown and Richard Anderson. McKinley is scheduled to commit on Nov. 8. As for Garrett, LSU had to battle to be in the race. Garrett originally committed to Auburn before backing off the pledge and opening his recruitment up. Garrett is an Alabama who recently moved to Baton Rouge. He doesn't fit the typical bill of a Louisiana high school product who dreamed of playing for LSU. But now that he's playing in LSU's city, the Tigers are in the thick of the race for the blue-chip linebacker. Per 247Sports, Garrett is the No. 8-ranked linebacker in the class. LSU's 2026 class is yet to add a linebacker, which makes Garrett a priority. LSU isn't the frontrunner for Garrett at the moment, but LSU has made progress. Don't count out the Tigers.

Michigan State is one of a few Big Ten schools with top 25 QB commitment in 2026 class
Michigan State is one of only a few Big Ten teams that currently holds a commitment from a top 25 quarterback prospect in the 2026 class. All of the Rivals' top 25 quarterback prospects in the 2026 class are now committed, and Michigan State is fortunate enough to have one of the commits in Kayd Coffman. He ranks as the No. 23 quarterback in the Rivals Industry Rankings for the 2026 class, which is fifth among Big Ten commitments in the position. Coffman has been committed to Michigan State since early February and ranks as one of the top commitments in the Spartans' 2026 class. On rivals, he is listed as a four-star prospect and ranked as the No. 6 player from Michigan and No. 237 overall prospect in the class. Coffman has long been considered a centerpiece of the Spartans' 2026 class so it's no surprise to see him among the top 25 quarterbacks in the class. Should Michigan State hold onto his commitment throughout this fall and sign him in December, he will surely be a big part of the Spartans' future on the gridiron. LSU football commit loses five-star status after latest rankings update
One of LSU football's top commits in the 2026 recruiting class slipped in the rankings. Rivals released a new Rivals300 after completing the merger with On3. After the update, defensive tackle Richard Anderson is no longer a four-star. On3 was high on Anderson, but with On3 handing off recruiting coverage to Rivals, the On3 rankings are no more. Anderson remains a top-100 consensus recruit. On3's praise of Anderson is still reflected in his Rivals rankings, where he sits No. 23 overall and No. 2 at his position, but its not enough for the fifth-star. ESPN is the lowest on Anderson, ranking the Louisiana native No. 93 nationally. Anderson attends Edna Karr High School, a New Orleans powerhouse. He's been committed to the Tigers since June of 2024 and maintained his pledge even with LSU seeing a change at defensive line coach. Bo Davis took a job with the New Orleans Saints and LSU head coach Brian Kelly tabbed former LSU star Kyle Williams to fill the role. Given Anderson's top-30 ranking on Rivals, he still has a decent chance to finish as a five-star recruit with a strong senior season. Anderson was recently joined in LSU's class by five-star defensive tackle Lamar Brown, giving the top defensive tackle haul in the country. Per the Rivals Industry Rankings, LSU football's 2026 signing class ranks No. 7 nationally.
