581 CAPF units, jammers, drones, K9 units: Post-Pahalgam attack, a full-spectrum shield for Amarnath Yatra

NEW DELHI: The government has planned to deploy 581 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), jammers, drones and K9 units for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, making it one of the most heavily secured pilgrimages. The annual yatra to the Amarnath shrine in Jammu and Kashmir will be conducted over a reduced 38-day schedule this year, from July 3 to August 9. The annual pilgrimage comes as India remains on high alert after Pahalgam terror attack and a decisive ' Operation Sindoor ' by armed forces againt Pakistan-backed terrorism. As part of a massive security overhaul, signal jammers will be deployed for the first time to protect the movement of yatra convoys, a measure aimed at neutralising threats posed by remote-controlled improvised explosive devices (IEDs). During the passage of the convoy, all roads leading to the yatra routes and National Highways will be temporarily blocked to ensure maximum security, news agency ANI reported. Security forces will be stationed across both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes, with layered arrangements involving: Road Opening Parties (ROPs) to secure and sanitise key stretches ahead of movement. Quick Action Teams (QATs) positioned for rapid response. Bomb Disposal Squads (BDS) for neutralising explosives. K9 units - highly trained sniffer dogs for explosive detection. Drones to provide real-time aerial surveillance. Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir Police chief Nalin Prabhat on Monday had directed security forces to bolster measures to mitigate potential risks by deploying anti-sabotage teams along the pilgrimage routes. The director general of police (DGP) also asked them to utilise advanced technologies to enhance surveillance and threat detection capabilities.

TRF planning attacks on Kashmiri Pandits, non-Muslim migrant workers after houses of terrorists demolished

NEW DELHI: Intelligence agencies have warned that The Resistance Front (TRF), a Lashkar-e-Taiba proxy, is planning fresh attacks targeting Kashmiri Pandits and non-Muslim migrant workers in Jammu and Kashmir. The alert, issued amid heightened security after the April 22 Sources said that TRF is attempting to retaliate after nine houses linked to active terrorists were razed by authorities post-Pahalgam. The group reportedly includes foreign terrorists with battlefield experience in Afghanistan, now infiltrated into Kashmir by Pakistan-based handlers. In a recent video, TRF warned of more violence if the crackdown continues. Though it publicly distanced itself from the Pahalgam attack, agencies suspect the group remains operationally active and ideologically aligned with Lashkar-e-Taiba. Following the intelligence input, security forces have beefed up deployment in sensitive zones, including Quick Reaction Teams, and have reinforced vigilance during Road Opening Parties and checkpoint duties. Use of mobile phones while on duty has also been restricted. Security around vital installations and potential targets has been intensified, and all police, Army, and paramilitary units have been directed to increase monitoring and prevent casual movements in vulnerable areas. TRF, which emerged around 2019–2020, has claimed several attacks in the past and is known for targeting civilians and security personnel, while presenting itself as a localised movement to mask its Pakistan-backed origins.

TRF Planning New Strike In J&K After Pahalgam Attack? Security Forces Tighten Vigil After Fresh Intel

Last Updated: According to a senior official stationed in Kashmir, the latest input indicates that terrorists may target Kashmiri Pandits, migrant labourers, or even security forces personnel. After the Pahalgam terrorist attack last week, intelligence agencies have issued another input claiming that The Resistance Front (TRF) is planning a fresh attack. Security in various areas has been beefed up, and locations with high footfall are under surveillance. Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) have been deployed in vulnerable areas. According to a senior official stationed in Kashmir, the latest input indicates that terrorists may target Kashmiri Pandits, migrant labourers, or even security forces personnel. The alert was issued following the release of a video by TRF last week, in which the group threatened Indian security forces over the demolition of local houses. In the video, TRF also stated that attacks would continue if such demolitions persisted. Subsequently, the terror outfit, which is an offshoot of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), issued a press statement claiming it was not responsible for the Pahalgam attack. 'The input was received on Monday, and security forces have reiterated that troops deployed for Road Opening Parties (ROP), Naka duties, and other operations must remain alert and vigilant. Personnel have also been instructed not to use mobile phones while on duty," said a senior official familiar with the development. 'The security of vital installations, vulnerable areas, high-value targets, and pickets has been enhanced to thwart any nefarious designs of adversaries. All possible proactive and preventive measures will be implemented under close supervision at all levels," the official added. 'All units have been instructed to cease casual movements and activities after receiving credible input suggesting that terrorists may target unarmed personnel. Movements have been restricted, and personnel have been advised not to visit any location without prior intimation," the official said. The Resistance Front (TRF) is an offshoot or proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a Pakistan-based terrorist organisation. It emerged around 2019–2020 and has claimed responsibility for several attacks, particularly targeting security forces and civilians in Kashmir. First Published: April 30, 2025, 09:01 IST
