Fairfax County police issue over 8K citations during traffic safety campaign

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. () — Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) officers issued over 8,000 citations and warnings during its second Road Shark traffic safety campaign. Former FCPS teacher charged with 2 assaults at school From April 21 through April 27, FCPD officers, in partnership with troopers from the Virginia State Police (VSP), issued more than 8,250 citations and warnings. Officers say these include over 600 speeding citations and 160 reckless driving citations during Wave Two of the Road Shark campaign. 'These numbers highlight the ongoing need for focused enforcement and driver accountability across Fairfax County,' FCPD said. STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — A man wanted in three jurisdictions for felony probation violations was arrested Thursday in Stafford County, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office. Deputies say Allen Weathers, 46, was wanted out of Stafford, Spotsylvania, and King George Counties, and around 11 a.m., the Street Crimes Unit received reports he was in the area. Police issue over 9,000 citations during first wave of Fairfax County's 'Road Shark' campaign Deputies located Weathers' red Chevy Blazer in the 800 block of Kellogg Mill Road, where crews boxed him in once he turned onto the driveway of a home. There, Weathers got out of his SUV and attempted to run into the nearby woods before deputies detained him. Deputies say suspected controlled substances were found on his person and in plain sight inside his SUV. Weathers was served on his outstanding warrants while possession of controlled substances charges are pending. He is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. Parents arrested for allegedly hitting child with bamboo stick in Manassas, police say

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. () — Police said two people are in custody after they were accused of hitting a child with a bamboo stick and fracturing her arm in Manassas, according to police. The Prince William County Police Department said detectives began investigating after an incident took place at a home on March 15. Their investigation revealed that a girl, under the age of 12, was disciplined by her father with a bamboo stick. During the encounter, the girl tried to block a hit, which injured her arm. Police issue over 9,000 citations during first wave of Fairfax County's 'Road Shark' campaign Prince William County police said that for several days, she told both of her parents that she had severe pain in her arm. However, the girl was not seen at a medical facility until nine days later, and staff determined that her arm was fractured. Prince William County police arrested Dong Shin and Michelle Shin. Dong was charged with felony child neglect and domestic assault and battery. Michelle was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Police issue over 9,000 citations during first wave of Fairfax County's ‘Road Shark' campaign

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. () — Fairfax County's 'Road Shark' campaign is just getting started, and officers have issued over 9,000 citations and warnings within the first wave. The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) said that between March 17 and March 23, officers teamed up with the Virginia State Police to enforce traffic laws throughout the county. During this time, officers and state troopers issued 675 citations for speeding, 22 citations for reckless driving and 205 hands-free citations. It's Official! Cherry blossoms reach peak bloom in DC Additionally, the first wave also resulted in 113 felony charges and 34 people were arrested for intoxicated driving, according to FCPD. During one instance, officers clocked a driver going 111 mph in a 55 mph zone on the morning of March 23. In total, 9,320 citations and warnings were issued across Fairfax County during the first wave. This is an increase of more than 3,600 citations compared to the first wave in 2024. Police noted that the 2025 campaign was designed to increase police visibility, educate drivers to combat aggressive driving, reduce crashes and promote safer roads.
