Death of man previously ruled medical incident now homicide: Edmonton police
Homicide detectives have opened an investigation into a death that happened last year.
Dwight Bennett, 39, went into medical distress at the Blue Quill Garden Apartments at 12025 25 Ave. on June 20, 2024.
He died later that day.
It was initially believed the man's death was non-criminal, but the Edmonton Police Service says new information from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner came to light in May.
As a result, a second autopsy was performed, and Bennett's death was ruled a homicide.
The cause of death is being withheld for investigative reasons.
Detectives are now looking for help in solving Bennett's death.
'Although this homicide is now over a year old, we believe someone out there knows something,' Acting Insp. Rob Bilawey from the EPS Homicide Section said in a media release Thursday.
'Even the smallest piece of information could be the key to helping us understand what happened to Dwight. We're urging anyone with knowledge about his death to come forward — no detail is too minor.'
Anyone with information is asked to contact EPS at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
