West Side Grand Rapids bar hands out 200 Easter meals to those in need
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A new bar on the West Side of Grand Rapids gave out hundreds of meals on Easter morning to those in need.
Owner Rob Wahl started up Bridge Street Bar less than two months ago, right across from Bridge Street Market. As a longtime West Side visitor, he knows just how many are experiencing homelessness.
'The need, I just see it every day coming down here,' Wahl said.
He wanted to do something to give back, especially on Easter.
Why is Easter hardly on the same Sunday?
'I don't think a lot of things are done on Easter,' he said. 'There's probably a lot more on Thanksgiving and Christmas especially. I feel like Easter might get missed, so I wanted to include it.'
Wahl and his staff took to the kitchen and cooked up 200 meals for the less fortunate. Each box was complete with ham, mashed potatoes, corn and bread. They handed the meals out through their walkup window to whoever needed a meal.
'I'm just going to do what I can do, you know?' Wahl said.

The plan is to make this a holiday tradition. Not just on Easter, but on Thanksgiving and Christmas too.
'I don't need any recognition for this,' Wahl said. 'I just think goodwill should be a part of everybody's business. That's it.'
