New booking photos released of recaptured Louisiana inmates as manhunt continues
Louisiana law enforcement officials released new booking pictures of four captured inmates who escaped a jail in New Orleans as they face new charges. The Louisiana Department of Public Safety released new booking pictures for Kendell Myles, Robert Moody, Gary Price and Dkenan Dennis, all of whom are accused of escaping the Orleans Justice Center on Friday. Six inmates are still at large. Price, who was arrested Monday, faces new charges of simple escape, possession of a controlled substance and unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling. He was initially arrested for attempted first-degree murder, domestic abuse and aggravated assault. Myles was also charged with simple escape after he was found hiding under a car in a hotel parking lot on May 16. Moody and Dennis, too, were charged with simple escape, a Louisiana State Police spokeswoman told Fox News Digital. Sterling Williams, 33, an employee of the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office, was arrested Tuesday and charged with 10 counts of principal to simple escape and malfeasance in office, according to Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill's office. Williams allegedly shut off water to the cell that the inmates escaped from, and rather than reporting the inmates, Murrill said, Williams helped them. He allegedly told detectives that the escapees threatened to "shank" him if he didn't help them break out of the jail, according to an arrest affidavit. Williams told police that one of the escaped inmates attempted to grab his phone and "get him to bring a book with cash app information." He was booked into jail on Tuesday. "This is a continuing investigation, and we will provide updates as often as possible. We will uncover all the facts eventually, and anyone who aided and abetted will be prosecuted to the full extent the law allows. I encourage anyone who knows anything, and even those who may have provided assistance, to come forward now to obtain the best possible outcome in their particular case," Murrill said. Derrick Groves, 27, who was convicted of killing two men on Mardi Gras in New Orleans in 2018, is one of the escapees still on the run. He was awaiting sentencing when he broke out of jail. In a statement given to the New Orleans City Council on Tuesday, Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson took "full accountability" for the jailbreak. "It is deeply troubling to me, as your sheriff, and I know it is equally troubling for you, the public, who we are sworn to protect," Hutson said. Hutson said in a Facebook statement she takes "full accountability for what happened." "This breach happened under my leadership, occurred on my watch, and it is my responsibility to ensure it is addressed with urgency and transparency," she said. The following fugitives are still at large:

Ten inmates escape from New Orleans prison in ‘too easy' jail break
A major manhunt is underway for seven of the men who remain at large after they fled through a hole behind a toilet One of the escapers, Kendall Myles, is caught in the French Quarter One of the escaped inmates is captured Ten prisoners who escaped from a New Orleans jail on Friday left graffiti behind taunting authorities has emerged A major manhunt is underway for seven of the men who remain at large after they fled through a hole behind a toilet before scaling a wall while the lone guard assigned to their cell was away getting food. Those seven include suspects charged with serious crimes such as murder. The absence of the 10 men went unnoticed for hours and it was not until a routine morning headcount, more than seven hours later, that law enforcement learned of the escape. One witness reported seeing all 10 inmates, clad in their matching orange jumpsuits, running across Interstate 10 in the dark of night, one news outlet reported. One of the escaped inmates is captured News in 90 Seconds - May 17th One of the men, Kendall Myles (20) who had previously escaped twice from juvenile detention centres, was caught after a brief foot chase through the French Quarter. Two other fugitives were soon captured, including Robert Moody (21) in New Orleans thanks to a Crimestoppers tip, and Dkenan Dennis who was found near the Chef Menteur Highway. State police used a helicopter to transport the captured inmates to a state correctional facility outside the New Orleans area while numerous local, state, and federal agencies work 'around the clock' to locate and apprehend the remaining individuals, police said. Meanwhile a photograph obtained by The Associated Press shows the opening behind a toilet in a cell that the men escaped through. Above the hole are scrawled messages that include 'To Easy LoL' with an arrow pointing at the gap in the wall. 'I'm/We Innocent,' another message declares. 'Most Hated 9″ was scrawled in the middle of a crudely drawn smiley face with a stuck-out tongue while another note taunted' 'Catch us when you can.' Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson blamed 'defective locks' that allowed the men to get out of the Orleans Justice Center. She said she had continuously raised concerns about the locks to officials and, as recently as this week, advocated for money to fix the ailing infrastructure. She also indicated that people inside her department had helped the fugitives escape. 'It's almost impossible, not completely, but almost impossible for anybody to get out of this facility without help,' she said, according to an AP report in the New York Post. One of the escapers, Kendall Myles, is caught in the French Quarter At least one of the steel bars protecting plumbing fixtures 'appeared to have been intentionally cut using a tool,' according to a statement from the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office. The men shed their jail uniforms once out of the facility but it remains unclear how some of them obtained regular clothing so quickly, officials said. The men made their daring bid for freedom at 1am but authorities did not notice the men were missing until 8.30am. Three employees have been placed on suspension pending the outcome of the investigation. The escapees range in age from 19 to 42, with most in their 20s. One of them, Derrick Groves, was convicted on two charges of second-degree murder and two charges of attempted second-degree murder last year for his role in the 2018 Mardi Gras Day shootings of two men. Another escapee, Corey Boyd, is accused of second-degree murder and aggravated battery, while Gary Price was being held on attempted first-degree murder. Repeat escapee Antoine Massey was locked up on domestic abuse, theft, parole violation, kidnapping and rape charges. Lenton Venburen was accused of murder in 2021 and was being held on firearm possession and parole violation. Leo Tate faced burglary and weapons possession charges.

3 inmates recaptured after New Orleans jailbreak; 7 still on the loose
Authorities in Louisiana have recaptured three of the 10 inmates who escaped from a New Orleans jail through a hole in a wall behind a toilet, leaving officials to wonder if the men had inside help. The inmates, including some with charges for murder, broke out of the jail in Orleans Parish at about 1 a.m. on May 16. By the end of the night, Kendall Myles, Robert Moody and Dkenan Dennis were back in custody, according to Gov. Jeff Landry. "3 down 7 to go, and we ARE NOT slowing down! LOCK THEM UP!" Landry said in a social media post. The inmates pulled a "defective" cell door off its tracks before ripping away a toilet and sink unit from a wall, Sheriff Susan Hutson said. Security footage showed the men leaving via a loading dock, scaling a wall and running across a highway, Hutson said. "We have indication that these detainees received assistance in their escape from individuals inside of our department," Hutson said, adding that a jail employee saw them escape through surveillance and didn't report it. Officials are offering up to a $7,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. The seven inmates still at large are Corey Boyd, Leo Tate, Jermaine Donald, Derrick Groves, Lenton Vanburen, Antoine T. Massey and Gary C. Price. Ten prisoners escape from New Orleans jail through hole in cell wall
TEN MEN BROKE out of a New Orleans jail in an audacious overnight escape yesterday by fleeing through a hole behind a toilet and scaling a wall while the lone guard assigned to their cell pod was away getting food, authorities said. Seven of the escapees, including suspects charged with murder, remain on the lam following the breakout that the local sheriff says may have been aided by members within the department. Surveillance footage, shared with media during a news conference, showed the escapees sprinting out of the facility – some wearing orange clothing and others in white. The Orleans Parish jail. They scaled a fence, using blankets to avoid being cut by barbed wire, and then some could be seen sprinting across the nearby interstate and into a neighbourhood. A photograph obtained by The Associated Press from law enforcement shows the opening behind a toilet in a cell that the men escaped through. Above the hole are scrawled messages that include 'To Easy LoL' with an arrow pointing at the gap. Their breach went unnoticed for more than seven hours until a morning headcount revealed the missing inmates. Officials later confirmed the escape was aided by defective locks and possibly inside help. One inmate, Kendall Myles, was caught in the French Quarter after a short chase. Advertisement Two others – Robert Moody and Dkenan Dennis – were also apprehended by yesterday evening. The remaining escapees, aged 19 to 42, shed their uniforms and fled into nearby neighbourhoods. Some of the escapees, Keith A Lewis, Dkenan Dennis, Gary C Price, Robert Moody, Kendell Myles, and Corey E Boyd AP AP The jail, which houses 1,400 inmates, has long suffered from staffing shortages and poor infrastructure. Sheriff Susan Hutson said the facility is only 60% staffed, with persistent issues such as broken locks and unsecured housing for high-risk inmates. The escape sparked widespread criticism from officials. District Attorney Jason Williams called it 'a complete failure,' and Attorney General Liz Murrill labelled the delay in public notification 'beyond unacceptable.' Three jail staff members have been suspended, and authorities are investigating whether any helped facilitate the escape. One of the fugitives, Derrick Groves, was convicted of two murders linked to a 2018 Mardi Gras shooting and is considered dangerous. Law enforcement has since been working with local and federal agencies to recapture the men and protect witnesses potentially at risk. New Orleans police are also using facial recognition and a city-wide camera network to track the escapees. The jail has been under federal oversight since 2013, following a court ruling declaring its conditions unconstitutional.
