Ten prisoners who escaped from a New Orleans jail on Friday left graffiti behind taunting authorities has emerged
A major manhunt is underway for seven of the men who remain at large after they fled through a hole behind a toilet before scaling a wall while the lone guard assigned to their cell was away getting food.
Those seven include suspects charged with serious crimes such as murder.
The absence of the 10 men went unnoticed for hours and it was not until a routine morning headcount, more than seven hours later, that law enforcement learned of the escape.
One witness reported seeing all 10 inmates, clad in their matching orange jumpsuits, running across Interstate 10 in the dark of night, one news outlet reported.

One of the men, Kendall Myles (20) who had previously escaped twice from juvenile detention centres, was caught after a brief foot chase through the French Quarter.
Two other fugitives were soon captured, including Robert Moody (21) in New Orleans thanks to a Crimestoppers tip, and Dkenan Dennis who was found near the Chef Menteur Highway.
State police used a helicopter to transport the captured inmates to a state correctional facility outside the New Orleans area while numerous local, state, and federal agencies work 'around the clock' to locate and apprehend the remaining individuals, police said.
Meanwhile a photograph obtained by The Associated Press shows the opening behind a toilet in a cell that the men escaped through.
Above the hole are scrawled messages that include 'To Easy LoL' with an arrow pointing at the gap in the wall.
'I'm/We Innocent,' another message declares.
'Most Hated 9″ was scrawled in the middle of a crudely drawn smiley face with a stuck-out tongue while another note taunted' 'Catch us when you can.'
Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson blamed 'defective locks' that allowed the men to get out of the Orleans Justice Center.
She said she had continuously raised concerns about the locks to officials and, as recently as this week, advocated for money to fix the ailing infrastructure.
She also indicated that people inside her department had helped the fugitives escape.
'It's almost impossible, not completely, but almost impossible for anybody to get out of this facility without help,' she said, according to an AP report in the New York Post.

At least one of the steel bars protecting plumbing fixtures 'appeared to have been intentionally cut using a tool,' according to a statement from the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office.
The men shed their jail uniforms once out of the facility but it remains unclear how some of them obtained regular clothing so quickly, officials said.
The men made their daring bid for freedom at 1am but authorities did not notice the men were missing until 8.30am.
Three employees have been placed on suspension pending the outcome of the investigation.
The escapees range in age from 19 to 42, with most in their 20s.
One of them, Derrick Groves, was convicted on two charges of second-degree murder and two charges of attempted second-degree murder last year for his role in the 2018 Mardi Gras Day shootings of two men.
Another escapee, Corey Boyd, is accused of second-degree murder and aggravated battery, while Gary Price was being held on attempted first-degree murder.
Repeat escapee Antoine Massey was locked up on domestic abuse, theft, parole violation, kidnapping and rape charges.
Lenton Venburen was accused of murder in 2021 and was being held on firearm possession and parole violation.
Leo Tate faced burglary and weapons possession charges.

Jury resumes deliberations in Harvey Weinstein sex crimes retrial

A Manhattan jury resumed deliberations on Friday in Harvey Weinstein's sex crimes retrial after ending its first day without reaching a verdict in a case that encapsulated the #MeToo movement. The panel, which was handed the case on Thursday morning, has requested to hear a readback of some testimony from two of Weinstein's accusers, as well as to see medical records from one of those women. The jury of seven women and five men is considering two counts of criminal sex act and one count of rape against the 73-year-old Oscar-winning movie producer, with the criminal sex act charges the higher-degree felonies. Harvey Weinstein has denied all the charges against him (Jefferson Siegel /The New York Times via AP, Pool/PA) Weinstein has pleaded not guilty. Sexual misconduct allegations against Weinstein propelled the #MeToo movement in 2017. He was eventually convicted of sex crimes in New York and California, but the New York conviction was overturned last year, leading to the retrial before a new jury and a different judge. Jurors heard more than five weeks of evidence, including lengthy testimony from three accusers.

Four killed in Kyiv after Russian missile and drone attacks across Ukraine

The mayor of Kyiv said a Russian missile and drone attack has killed at least four people and injured 20 others in the capital, amid a wider attack across Ukraine. Vitali Klitschko said search and rescue operations are under way at several locations in the city. Multiple explosions were heard in Kyiv, where falling debris sparked fires across several districts as air defence systems attempted to intercept incoming targets, according to Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Administration. The capital say several people killed in the strike (AP) 'Our air defence crews are doing everything possible. But we must protect one another – stay safe,' Mr Tkachenko wrote on Telegram. Authorities reported damage in several districts, and rescue workers are responding at multiple locations. They urged residents to seek shelter. In Solomyanskyi district, a fire broke out on the 11th floor of a 16-storey residential building. Residents were urged to take shelter during the strike (AP) Emergency services evacuated three people from the apartment, and rescue operations are ongoing. Another fire broke out in a metal warehouse. Mr Tkachenko said the metro tracks between two stations in Kyiv were damaged in the attack, but no fire or injuries were reported. In northern Chernihiv region, a Shahed drone exploded near an apartment building, shattering windows and doors, according to regional military administration chief Dmytro Bryzhynskyi. Kherson. The building of the regional state administration. Russian forces have completely destroyed it. Two strikes with aerial bombs. Deliberate strikes, not accidental. No military sense whatsoever. They are openly destroying life. Absolutely deranged creatures. Force is… — Volodymyr Zelenskyy / Володимир Зеленський (@ZelenskyyUa) June 5, 2025 He added that explosions from ballistic missiles were also recorded on the outskirts of the city. The night-time attack came hours after US President Donald Trump said it might be better to let Ukraine and Russia 'fight for a while' before pulling them apart and pursuing peace, in comments that were a remarkable detour from Mr Trump's often-stated appeals to stop the three-year war. The US leader spoke as he met with Germany's new chancellor, Friedrich Merz, who appealed to him as the 'key person in the world' who could halt the bloodshed by pressuring Russian President Vladimir Putin.
