England's Brandon Robinson Thompson surges into three-shot lead in Turkey

England's Brandon Robinson Thompson equalled the Regnum Carya course record to surge into a three-shot lead going into the final round of the Turkish Airlines Open. Robinson Thompson's nine-under-par 62 saw him reach 14 under for the week, three clear of Spain's Jorge Campillo, China's Haotong Li and South African Robin Williams. Starting the day five shots off the lead, Robinson Thompson burst out of the blocks with three birdies in his first five holes. Another fine approach to six feet at the ninth saw him turn in 30 and he chipped in for eagle at the 12th, before birdieing three of the last four holes. "I've just got notified of that (the course record) and I'm a bit bummed I didn't break it," said the 32-year-old. "I'm super excited to have a nice round and the scary part was I probably could have had a few more but beggars can't be choosers. "I'm here with my wife, we're staying in a beautiful hotel, the course is amazing. "It's hard not to enjoy yourself this week – the facilities are so good. I'm here with my wife, its such an incredible place, if you're not having a good time this week win, lose or draw, there's something wrong."

Haotong Li surges clear in Qatar Masters on DP World Tour

Haotong Li moved into a two-shot lead at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters with a third-round 67. The three-time DP World Tour winner from China—including the 2018 HERO Dubai Desert Classic—advanced to 13 under at Doha Golf Club, overtaking halfway leader Brandon Robinson Thompson. A one-under 71 saw Robinson Thompson move to 11 under, securing second place and a spot in the final group on Sunday. England's Matthew Jordan and South Africa's Jayden Schaper share third place at nine under after rounds of 67 and 69, respectively. Haotong wasted no time erasing Robinson Thompson's two-shot overnight advantage, birdieing the first hole after a superb second shot into the par five. He added another birdie at the second from five feet. England's Robinson Thompson played a steady round, with his only deviation from par in the first 15 holes being a bogey at the sixth. Haotong took the outright lead with a birdie from three feet at the seventh. Both contenders produced a string of pars up to the 15th before capitalizing on the driveable 16th, where Robinson Thompson recorded his first birdie of the day. Haotong looked poised to extend his lead further when he rolled in a 15-footer at the 17th, but Robinson Thompson responded by getting up and down from the back of the 18th green to keep the gap at two shots. Earlier, Jordan charged up the leaderboard with five consecutive birdies from the 12th. Although he dropped a shot after three-putting the 17th, he made amends by sinking a huge 56-foot birdie putt on the last hole. Schaper also finished strongly, with three birdies in his last four holes to secure a share of third place. Joshua Grenville-Wood, representing the UAE, is tied for 33rd at three under par after rounds of 70, 73, and 70 (213 total). The final round will be played tomorrow (Sunday), with tee times starting at 6:30 a.m. in two-balls, all from tee one. The leaders will tee off last at 12:05 p.m. For LIVE final-round scoring, visit:

Rasmus and Brandon tied for the lead in Qatar Masters on DP World Tour

Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen shares the first-round lead with Brandon Robinson Thompson at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters after recovering from an opening bogey to post a sensational 66 on Thursday. Meanwhile, thirteen-year-old Daniil Sokolov, a Russian national representing Qatar, carded a 3-over 75 in just his second European Tour event;. After starting strong at 2-under through four holes, he stumbled with four bogeys and a double bogey, dropping to a tie for 105th when play was suspended at Doha Golf Club with 12 players yet to finish. Rasmus, the 25-year-old Dane has made a bright start to the new campaign following a stunning 2024 in which he won three times on the HotelPlanner Tour to earn automatic promotion to the DP World Tour. And despite an early blip in windy conditions at Doha Golf Club, where he dropped a shot at the first hole after missing his 14-foot par putt, Neergaard-Petersen continued his fine recent form as he made seven birdies and no bogeys over the next 17 holes to set the early clubhouse target at six under par. Englishman Robinson Thompson then caught Neergaard-Petersen at the summit late in the afternoon after draining his 60-foot birdie putt on the eighth - his penultimate hole. Robinson Thompson, who smashed the course record as he opened with a 61 in Bahrain last week, had a chance to hold the outright first-round lead for the second week in a row but was unable to make his birdie putt from ten feet on the ninth and had to settle for a share. Italy's Andrea Pavan and England's Sam Bairstow were in a tie for third one shot behind the co-leaders after shooting 67's. Frenchman Pierre Pineau and Armenia's Jean Bekirian were another shot back with two holes still to complete when play was suspended at 17:12 local time due to darkness. They will return early in the morning when round one restarts at 07:00. Neergaard-Petersen began the tournament with a bogey but bounced back immediately at the second, holing from eight feet for a birdie. He repeated the trick at the fourth from a similar distance before picking up further shots on the seventh and ninth as he reached the turn in 33. Neergaard-Petersen then made it back-to-back birdies from tap-in range at the tenth to get to four under. A 30-foot birdie followed on the 13th before another gain at the 14th took Neergaard-Petersen to six under. He said, 'I'm extremely pleased, even after the bogey at the first. To bounce back like that was huge. 'I felt really good into the greens today and was able to roll in some putts. It was a lovely day. 'I made a conscious effort this week to try and start fast. I told my caddie, Brian, going into this week that was the main goal, get off to a good start, be under par through six and take it from there." Robinson Thompson started from the tenth tee on Thursday and mixed four birdies with one bogey on his way to the turn. After making a ten-foot birdie on the par-five first, he had to wait until the seventh for his next gain before going back-to-back from long range at the eighth. Three good shots into the long ninth set up a decent birdie chance at his last hole but Robinson Thompson was unable to convert and had to make do with a closing par. He said, 'Just a lot of good stuff out there today. Tricky conditions with the wind, but first and foremost the golf course is in unbelievable condition. The guys at Doha Golf Club have done such a good job. I just took advantage of opportunities that came my way. 'The first round is always important, it can get you in the tournament, you can relax and build on it. This is almost like a home game for me. I've been here so many times and I'm so comfortable here. 'I had some people out watching as well. It's just fun to be here. I'm comfortable on the golf course. I'm staying with a really good friend of mine. With the course being as good as I've ever seen it, it's exciting to play, because I know the course, and it's awesome. 'I just love golf. Full stop. I love competing. I'm so happy to be out here on the DP World Tour. It's been a dream of mine since I was a kid, and I'm living the dream.'

Robinson Thompson leads on day one

Brandon Robinson Thompson hailed yesterday's 61 as one of his best-ever rounds after smashing the course record and raising hopes of a 59 on a memorable first day of the 2025 Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship. Early starter Robinson Thompson flew out of the blocks, making the most of benign morning conditions to fire a front-nine 29 that contained two eagles and three birdies. And when he reeled off four successive birdies from the 12th to get to 11 under par, the prospect of Robinson Thomp-son entering the record books as only the second player to shoot a sub-60 round in DP World Tour history was on eve-ryone's lips. Although his birdie run was broken at the 16th as his superb birdie try from 30 feet somehow stayed above ground, the 32-year-old birdied the 17th from long range to move to 12 under and within touching distance of a 59. But, needing a birdie on the par-four last to achieve the feat, the HotelPlanner Tour graduate finished with his only bogey of the day after going long with his approach from a fairway bunker. With the wind getting stronger in the afternoon, Robinson Thompson's 11-under-par total saw him lead by three shots at the end of round one, with fellow morning starter and countryman Callum Tarren his closest challenger on eight under. Spain's Pablo Larrazábal, France's Martin Couvra, Scot Richie Ramsay and Finn Tapio Pulkkanen were in a tie for third another two shots further back. Rookie Robinson Thompson beat the previous course record of 64 posted by France's Tom Vaillant last year by three shots, and he was taking plenty of positives from the day despite the disappointment of missing out on a 59. He said: 'I think it's my lowest round as a professional, let alone on the DP World Tour. 'It has to be up there with a Sunday to close out a HotelPlanner Tour event last year. I know it's the first round but 61, that has to be first or second, surely.' Robinson Thompson's round clicked into gear with an eagle at the par-five third, before he backed it up immediately with a birdie on the 443-yard fourth. Further gains followed at the sixth and eighth, before he closed out his front nine by rolling in an eagle putt from 28 feet. A run of four birdies in a row from the 12th through to the 15th followed to put everyone on 59 watch, and he lipped out for five in a row from distance at the parthree 16th. His chance at history was back on though when his putter delivered again at the 17th, before his dropped shot at the last. Asked when he first became aware of the possibility of a 59, Robinson Thompson said: 'After about nine holes! 'And then I hit it to about four feet on ten, and I was like, 'oh'… Unfortunately I missed that one. 'It was just an accumulation of a lot of good decision making and execution. 'I didn't really picture it this morning when it was raining and there were forecasts of super-strong winds. Very happy to get off to the start I did. Little bit of a sour taste in my mouth, but I holed my fair share.' Of the Bahraini players, Khalifa Alkaabi coped best with the tough conditions, shooting 3-over 75.

Robinson-Thompson shoots course record, flirts with history in Bahrain Championship

Since 1972, only Oliver Fisher has shot a 59, with the Briton coming close with a stunning eight-birdie 61 Brandon Robinson Thompson carded a course-record 61 to take a three-shot lead after round one of the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship, as he came agonisingly close to add his name to the DP World Tour history books. Only Oliver Fisher has carded a 59 since the formation of the DP World Tour in 1972, but fellow Englishman Robinson Thompson had that magic number in his sights when he recorded eight birdies and two eagles through his opening 17 holes. However, the HotelPlanner Tour graduate finished with his only bogey of the day after going long with his approach from a fairway bunker to end the opening day at 11 under -and better the previous Royal Golf Club course record by three shots - with countryman Callum Tarren his nearest challenger at eight under. Robinson Thompson clicked into gear with an eagle at the par-five third, before backing it up immediately with a birdie at the 443-yard fourth. Further gains followed at the sixth and eighth, before the 32-year-old closed out his front nine by rolling in an eagle putt from 28 feet at the ninth. He missed a short birdie effort at the tenth, but a run of four consecutive birdies from the 12th through to the 15th put everyone on 59 watches before he lipped out for five in a row from distance at the par-three 16th. His chance at history was back on though when his putter delivered again at the 17 th, before his dropped shot at the last. Tarren shot eight birdies in his bogey-free round of 64 to sit three shots off the lead, with Pablo Larrazábal recorded the lowest round of the afternoon with his round of 66 as the the wind picked up around Royal Golf Club. The Spaniard is in a tie for third at six under par alongside Frenchman Martin Couvra, Scott Richie Ramsay and Tapio Pulkkanen of Finland. Robinson Thompson told the media post round, 'I didn't picture it this morning when it was raining and there were forecasts of super-strong winds. Very happy to get off to the start I did. A little bit of a sour taste in my mouth (bogeying the last), but I holed my fair share.' "I was aware I was on #59Watch after about nine holes! And then I hit it to about four feet. on 10, unfortunately, I missed that one. It was just an accumulation of a lot of good decision-making and execution. "I wouldn't say it was perfect by a long way, but I was smart when I had to be and I hit a couple of shots to 25, 30 and 35 feet. Luckily made a couple of those. It was good decision-making, good golf shots, and I made a lot of putts. "I think it's my lowest round as a professional, let alone on the DP World Tour. It has to be up there with a Sunday to close out a Challenge Tour event last year. I know it's the first round but 61, that's up there." Spain's Rafa Cabrera Bello, a Dubai Golden VISA Awardee found some form with a five-under-par 67 to be tied sixth. First Round Leading Scores B. Robinson Thompson (Eng) 61. C. Tarren (Eng) 64. P.
