Damon Dash's Lawyers Withdraw From Representation Amid Bankruptcy And $4 Million Legal Battle With Filmmaker
Damon Dash could have a tough journey ahead. His lawyers have withdrawn from representing him amid his $4 million legal battle with filmmaker Josh Webber, and as he prepares to file for bankruptcy. AllHipHop obtained court documents showing that Dame's attorneys submitted paperwork to the U.S. District Court on Monday (April 28) expressing their desire to step away, explaining that the music executive refused to 'cooperate with court-ordered asset disclosure.' They also claimed that Dash told them that 'responding would be futile' because he was filing for bankruptcy, and everyone should wait for that process to play out. Further, they stated that representing the 53-year-old entrepreneur has been a frustrating experience due to his lack of communication and how he conducts himself in matters unrelated to the case. They ultimately requested a 30-day pause in all proceedings so Dame could find new attorneys and put the finishing touches on his bankruptcy filing. Damon Dash has been in a legal battle with Josh Webber for a few years now over the film Dear Frank. Webber filed a defamation lawsuit against Dash in 2019, explaining how he was hired to co-direct Dear Frank in 2016 and was fired two years later for being under the influence on set. Webber claims that the Roc-A-Fella co-founder went on to pitch the film to multiple networks under a new title, The List, changing to name so that his former collaborator wouldn't catch on to him taking the film idea somewhere else. Webber doubled back in 2024, citing more current defamatory comments from Dash from his appearances on Earn Your Leisure. 'I had a judgment,' he said. 'And I knew this d**khead Chris Brown (pause) and Josh Webber […] I went through four trials with the same lawyer… What I lost was defamation because these guys trigger me and steal my sh*t… you think there is freedom of speech, it's really not.' Webber claimed that Dash publicly slandering him caused him to lose out on a $4 million gig to direct and produce a movie starring Billy Bob Thornton and Scott Eastwood. Webber scored a big win last month when Dash was ordered to pay him $4 million in a default judgment after losing the defamation lawsuit, a major increase from the $805,000 he was ordered to pay in 2022. Earlier this year, he suggested that Dash auction his valuables, such as his engagement ring, to cover what he owed. This was after Dame had already auctioned his one-third of ownership in Roc-A-Fella. Dame Dash Ordered To Pay $4M In Defamation Lawsuit
Damon Dash has hit a major legal setback. The former Roc-A-Fella executive has been ordered to pay a $4 million default judgment after he lost a defamation lawsuit from Josh Webber, per TMZ. The suit was previously filed in April 2024, with Webber claiming that, due to Dash's alleged defamatory comments, he lost out on potential business totaling $4 million in a producing and directing job. Webber pointed to Dash's comments he made on the Earn Your Leisure podcast, with the mogul claiming that Josh 'stole' from him regarding a long-standing dispute surrounding the film, Dear Frank. In the YouTube video, Dash explained his situation to the podcast hosts, saying, 'I had a judgment. And I knew this dickhead Chris Brown (pause) and Josh Webber (pause) and Muddy Waters… Chris Brown the lawyer,' Dash specified…'I went through four trials with the same lawyer… What I lost was defamation because these guys trigger me and steal my sh*t… you think there is freedom of speech, it's really not,' he said at the time. Due to these comments, Webber's suit claimed that a gig to direct a film starring Billy Bob Thornton and Scott Eastwood was stalled and then eventually lost, and that Dash should have to compensate for that loss. According to the suit initially filed in 2019, Dash was hired to help co-direct Dear Frank in 2016. However, two years later, the businessman was fired from the film for being inebriated on set. After Dash's firing, Webber claims the mogul then pitched Dear Frank to networks, including BET, under the title, The List, to avoid Webber catching on that he was taking the film idea elsewhere. In early 2025, Josh Webber requested that Dame auction off some of his valuables, such as his engagement ring, to cover all his debts. And with this new judgement, Webber may be looking to double back on this request. Drake Cryptically Warns His ‘Next Chapter' May ‘Leave You Feeling Uneasy'
Drake appears to be working on his next era, though he's taken to social media to warn that it might not be for everyone. The Canadian musician shared a post on Instagram on Monday (March 10), with its cryptic content swiftly generating much speculation as to what it might be referring to. 'U know I grew up non confrontational and always treated this game as a sport where my pen won gold, but my these days the podium has been hard for all of us to ignore,' the post began. Drake had previously promised another round in their ongoing feud was on the horizon, with Lamar later addressing the 6 God's claim while announcing his halftime performance. 'You know there's only one opportunity to win a championship,' Lamar said. 'No round twos.' As Drake continues his post though, he hints that whatever comes next may be uncomfortable for some, adding that an unidentified individual has been sending him texts. 'I understand that this next chapter may leave you feeling uneasy, but I hope you see my honesty as clarity not charity that answers some questions especially about the unanswered texts you've been sending me,' the post concludes. The cryptic nature of Drake's latest message is continued in the choice of photos used in the post, which – alongside selfies, live footage, and a screengrab from the 2017 film Phantom Thread – also includes an image of two Zofran pills, which the Mayo Clinic notes are 'to prevent nausea and vomiting that is caused by cancer medicines (chemotherapy) or radiation therapy.' Specifics relating to Drake's upcoming plans remain unclear currently, but his update follows the release of his $ome $exy $ongs 4 U collaborative album with PartyNextDoor on Feb. 14, and the postponement of a number of Australian and New Zealand tour dates due to a 'scheduling conflict.' Woman withdraws civil lawsuit against Jay-Z, Sean ‘Diddy' Combs alleging she was raped at age 13
An Alabama woman who said she was raped by rappers Jay-Z and Sean 'Diddy' Combs when she was 13 withdrew her civil lawsuit against both men on Friday, according to court filings. The unidentified woman in December added Jay-Z, whose legal name is Shawn Carter, to a lawsuit she had filed against Combs in Manhattan federal court, alleging that she was attacked by the singers in 2000 after Combs' limo driver offered her a ride to an MTV Video Music Awards after-party. Jay-Z, who vehemently denied the claims and tried to get extracted from the lawsuit, called the woman's decision to withdraw the lawsuit 'a victory' and said the 'fictional tale' she and her lawyers created was 'laughable.' 'The frivolous, fictitious and appalling allegations have been dismissed,' he said in a statement posted on social media. 'This civil suit was without merit and never going anywhere.' Combs remains jailed in New York awaiting a criminal trial on federal sex trafficking charges. He also faces a wave of sexual assault lawsuits, many of which were filed by the plaintiff's lawyer, Tony Buzbee, a Texas attorney who says his firm represents over 150 people, both men and women, who allege sexual abuse and exploitation by Combs. Lawyers for Combs said the dismissal of the lawsuit without a settlement confirmed that other lawsuits he is facing are built on falsehoods. 'For months, we have seen case after case filed by individuals hiding behind anonymity, pushed forward by an attorney more focused on media headlines than legal merit. Just like this claim, the others will fall apart because there is no truth to them,' they said in a statement, adding that Combs 'has never sexually assaulted or trafficked anyone — man or woman, adult or minor.' A message was left seeking comment from Buzbee. Jay-Z and Combs are part of a generation of hip-hop titans who rose to prominence in the 2000s, emerging as wide-ranging entrepreneurs and two of the world's wealthiest rappers. The artists have collaborated over the years, with Jay-Z being featured on Combs' debut album, 'No Way Out' and Combs appearing on Jay-Z's sophomore album, 'In My Lifetime, Vol. 1.' Diddy launched his Bad Boy Records around the same time Jay-Z launched his Roc-A-Fella record label. The pair has been frequently photographed together at events. Jay-Z has won 25 Grammys while Diddy has collected three trophies. Download the FREE WPXI News app for breaking news alerts. Follow Channel 11 News on Facebook and Twitter. | Watch WPXI NOW
