WATCH: Mamelodi Sundowns, DJ Khaled light up Times Square
Mamelodi Sundowns have received another unique 'welcome' in the United States, where they will participate in the Club World Cup – and make history – as the sole South African representative. Earlier this week, Mamelodi Sundowns first received a welcome message from one of their most famous supporters, music mogul DJ Khaled, just as the club touched down in the USA for their Club World Cup campaign. In a video shared this week by Roc Nation Sports International, the consultancy partner to Sundowns, the renowned American artist warmly welcomed Mamelodi Sundowns to the USA. Now, as part of the team's continued high-profile activations ahead of their Club World Cup fixtures, DJ Khaled also spearheads another special video that plays four times an hour, every hour, for the next 24 hours in the heart of Times Square. The digital message board can be found in one of the most iconic hot spots in America, and a special reveal is planned for certain Sundowns representatives in New York as Masandawana continue their journey towards their opening Club World Cup fixture next week. Sundowns have already settled into their Bradenton base in Florida ahead of their first Club World Cup game against Ulsan FC next week, which will be followed by further group games against Borussia Dortmund and Fluminese. As a global connector, this latest display of allegiance from DJ Khaled is another testament to the award-winning artist's undeniable affection for Mamelodi Sundowns, adding to a long line of previous examples of his support for the club.
