Oasis reconnects with hometown euphoria in Manchester

Excitement was palpable in Central District, a lively neighborhood and Manchester's shopping hotspot on Friday, July 11. It was just hours before the first of five Oasis concerts in the English city, which seemed to revolve around this event alone. Under a scorching sun, Liam and Noel Gallagher's faces were everywhere: Posters were plastered on buses, lampposts and shop windows, while their hits played in every pub and store. Advertising slogans from car and clothing brands riffed on lyrics from "Rock'N'Roll Star" or" Live Forever." Most of all, the city buzzed with an extraordinary parade of T-shirts featuring the band, worn by a diverse crowd – fans of all generations, proud and happy to celebrate the return of their Britpop heroes. That night at Heaton Park, Oasis played a real homecoming show. While Cardiff in Wales had been the first stop for the band's reunion on July 4 and 5, the Manchester concerts – in the Gallaghers' native city – were the crowning moment of their comeback. Here, the famously unruly brothers were considered demigods. While Manchester boasts a rich musical heritage, from New Order to The Smiths and The Stone Roses, none have climbed the ladder of success as high as its champion, Oasis.

Google makes huge Oasis change just hours before first concert

With Oasis just hours away from kicking off their global tour, Google has sent fans crazy with a few Easter Eggs for anyone searching for more information about the tour After 16 years of anticipation, the Gallagher brothers will grace a stage together once again as Oasis is officially back in business. But with all that hype, fans searching for more information have been left laughing at a sneaky change Google has introduced. After decades of waiting, Britpop fans are finally getting what many had dreamed of, but many thought would never happen, as the classic 90s band performs its first show since 2009 as they take to the stage in Cardiff later today. ‌ Currently the talk of the country, many intrigued fans have been googling for more information on the tour only to find a funny nod to the brother sending them in a different direction. ‌ When searching Oasis Tour, at the top of the page and above all the tour dates is the search help tool "Did you mean?". Now, although this certain box has helped correct countless typos for this one page Google have sneakily changed it to "Did you mean: madferit." For any southerners not quite up to date with Manchester slang, "mad fer it" meaning "mad for it" was a phrase Liam and Noel used to shout out in their earlier days to get the crowd going and make sure everyone was ready for a party. At one point Oasis fans were even given the nickname mad ferits. But Google wasn't done giving itself a Manchester accent with just one suggestion. Anybody searching for the group's classic 1994 hit Rock 'N' Roll Star will be met with a " Did you mean: rock n roll staaaaaaaaaar," a reference to Liam's iconic Mancunian whine that made his lyrics so iconic. Click here for the Mirror's live updates on the Oasis tour. Soon fans will get to hear the brother's iconic voices once again as anticipation builds outside the Principality Stadium. Around 75,000 lucky fans will be making their way to Cardiff for the show tonight with the same again arriving for tomorrow's gig as rehearsals are well underway. ‌ A buzz has already begun to build across the city with some fans queuing up outside the stadium more than 24 hours before they're due to hit the stage in an effort to soak up the atmosphere and secure their spot when doors open. Fans who decided to brave the elements and camp outside the Cardiff stadium ahead of the tour have now been given VIP tickets to the show. ITV show Lorraine's correspondent Nick Dixon revealed on the daytime show that some ticket holders had been waiting outside the Principality Stadium since yesterday in the hopes of getting to the front of the stage - and Oasis ' Noel and Liam Gallagher had noticed.

Liam Gallagher devastates fans as he says beloved song won't be on Oasis setlist

Liam Gallagher has been addressing questions over the set list for Oasis reunion tour in recent weeks (Image: Corbis via Getty Images) Band member Liam Gallagher has addressed speculation over the set list for the Oasis reunion tour. The singer-songwriter will take to the stage with his brother Noel Gallagher for the first time in more than a decade over the summer. Liam, 52, and Noel, 57, will perform at venues in the UK and Ireland later this year as part of the Oasis Live '25 Tour. Ahead of the tour's opening night in July, there has been excitement over the potential songs that the band could perform. In recent weeks, Liam has addressed questions about the set list on X. It's included telling his followers that Rock 'N' Roll Star is "getting played" and that Oasis will be "doing" Hey Now, though he previously said that wasn't the case. Last week, he was met with disappointment after telling fans that Acquiesce wasn't on the set list for gigs in Manchester. The song was originally released as the B-side to Oasis' chart-topping single Some Might Say back in 1995. A fan asked him on the platform: "You gonna sing Acquiesce with Noel at the Heaton park gigs for us Liam?" Liam responded by writing: "That's not on the list sorry." One person reacted: "You can't do this to us." Another said: "No way. Wtf Liam. Tgats one of the best oasis songs." A third said: "You pair simply have to sign acquiesce, it wouldn't be right getting back together and not signing that together." Someone else teased: "Oh my people are gonna cry!" There have been reports that the song isn't being included on the set list due to its connection to convicted paedophile Gary Glitter. As previously reported, Hello is the opening track from Oasis' album (What's the Story) Morning Glory? and includes lyrics from the disgraced singer's 1973 song Hello, I'm Back Again as well as featuring the melody of the original song. One fan shared a screengrab from an article about the speculation earlier this month and asked: "Is it true Liam?" Liam responded by telling them at the time: "We'll be playing HELLO trust me." Ahead of opening night, Liam has been addressing questions from fans about the set list (Image: JOERG KOCH/DDP/AFP via Getty Images) More recently, Liam was asked last week if the set list for the tour can be "tweaked if necessary". He commented: "Of course and I'm sure it will were very flexible." He previously said that the set list was finished and that Hey Now wasn't included, though he's since said otherwise. He wrote on May 12: "The setlist is done and I'm afraid it didn't make it now don't take it personally and call me hurty names as it's not my fault we can't play them all." Earlier this year, Liam appeared to suggest that none of his solo songs will be included. He was asked by a fan: "Which solo song of yours would you include in the oasis live setlist if you could?" He teased in his response: "None." Like this story? For more of the latest showbiz news and gossip, follow Mirror Celebs on TikTok , Snapchat , Instagram , Twitter , Facebook , YouTube and Threads .
