Keegan Bradley's Savage Reaction to Ryder Cup Captain's Picks
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Ryder Cup is two months away, and is already on nearly everyone's mind, including Team USA Captain Keegan Bradley. Bradley is on the verge of several difficult decisions, both for himself and for the history of golf in America. Deciding who will be the captain's picks for the Ryder Cup team could be crucial in the outcome of the event, and Bradley is not letting anyone's assumptions get in the way. "If you're not in the top six, you can't expect to be on the team," he said bluntly. Getty Images/Raj Mehta Bradley reflected on the topic during a recent interview for the Fore Play podcast. He also mentioned how he plans to approach the moment of telling players whether or not they'll be picked. "I think about it all the time. I've been on like a million of these calls, so I know exactly how I'll do it." "When I wasn't in the top six for Zach [Johnson] at Rome, I totally understood not getting picked." "Like, you cannot expect to be on the team if you don't finish in the top six, even if you're seventh." "When you get the call that you're not on the team and you're not in that top six...I wasn't really mad at Zach. I got it." Naturally, the team's integration has been on Bradley's mind from the very beginning. Even at the press conference where he was introduced as captain, he outlined his initial thoughts on the matter: "I think it's important that they [the captain's picks] can be a dynamic player to partner with multiple guys, players that fit the course layout of Bethpage Black, players that can handle the pressure that they're going to be under, the extreme crowds," he said. "We're going to look into analytics, and how they stack up in this." Who is Currently Making the American Ryder Cup team? The American Ryder Cup team will be formed similarly to previous years: using a points system to rank players. The top six will be placed directly on the team, while the other six will be freely chosen by the captain. By July 2025, only Scottie Scheffler has mathematically secured his place on the team. The current ranking (top 12) looks like this: 1 Scottie Scheffler - 27536.93 points 2 Xander Schauffele - 12472.70 points 3 J.J. Spaun - 12271.85 points 4 Russell Henley - 11166.85 points 5 Bryson DeChambeau - 10318.00 points 6 Justin Thomas - 9997.69 points 7 Collin Morikawa - 9743.61 points 8 Ben Griffin - 8604.91 points 9 Keegan Bradley - 7881.22 points 10 Harris English - 7666.52 points 11 Maverick McNealy - 7126.46 points 12 Brian Harman - 6521.26 points More Golf: Viktor Hovland warns PGA Tour pros on being 'greedy' at the Scottish Open

Collin Morikawa Lands Major-Winning Caddie for Open Championship
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Just weeks after clashing with a reporter over speculation about his caddie situation, Collin Morikawa has finally landed on a major-winning name for his bag. The 2-time major champion, who publicly called out Golfweek's Adam Schupak during a tense press conference at the Rocket Classic, had said then, "It's a process for me to find [a caddie] because I only know one way." That process now appears to have joined him with one of the most respected loopers in the game, Billy Foster. (Photo by) More Getty Images Foster has a strong record, having caddied for Matt Fitzpatrick during his 2022 U.S. Open win. The news was first confirmed by and later backed by footage shared by the DP World Tour, showing Morikawa and Foster working together on the range ahead of this week's Genesis Scottish Open. Morikawa's move to work alongside a major-winning caddie comes after a turbulent stretch of experiments with several bagmen. The process started when Morikawa parted ways with longtime caddie J.J. Jakovac in April after a six-year partnership that included all six of his PGA Tour wins. The Southern California native then partnered with Joe Greiner, Max Homa's former caddie but that pairing lasted just five events. "Joe is an amazing caddie," Morikawa said at the Rocket Classic, "but the way we kind of saw things... we were just a little bit on a different page." Next, the 28-year-old turned to former college teammate KK Limbhasut for a one-off loop in Detroit, where he finished T-8. Collin Morikawa's recent performances Over the last few months, Morikawa's constant instability with his caddies raised questions about whether it was affecting his form on the course. While he's made 13 of 14 cuts this season, he's still searching for his first win since the 2023 Zozo Championship. Morikawa's best finishes in 2025 came during The Sentry and Arnold Palmer Invitational with a pair of solo seconds. He logged a solid T14 at Augusta National, T50 at the PGA Championship and T23 at the U.S Open. Now, with Foster, who has caddy records with Seve Ballesteros, Darren Clarke, Matt Fitzpatrick, Lee Westwood,....Morikawa gains not just experience, but a proven major-winning presence just before the Open Championship. NBC's Eamon Lynch Delivers Wake-Up Call to Rickie Fowler Over 'Good Golf'
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The PGA Tour's signature events are behind us, and so are three of golf's biggest majors. All that remains is The Open Championship and a handful of tense regular-season stops before the FedEx Cup Playoffs tee off on August 7th. With only five weeks to make a statement, the clock is ticking. And this week's John Deere Classic, the Tour's 30th regular-season event, might just be the last call for players hovering on the playoff bubble. It also includes Rickie Fowler sits at the 72nd in the FedEx Cup standings and is returning to the John Deere Classic. NBC Reporters sound off over Rickie Fowler's 'good golf' optimism Fowler hasn't played the John Deere Classic since 2010, and he knows exactly what is at stake. "Just need to execute and play some good golf," Fowler told Golf Channel's Hailey Hunter. DETROIT, MICHIGAN - JUNE 27: Rickie Fowler of the United States looks on from the eighth green during the second round of the Rocket Classic 2025 at Detroit Golf Club on June 27, 2025 in Detroit, Michigan. (Photo by) More Getty Images "There's a lot of good stuff in my game," he continued. "Last week wasn't anything special, but I know there's a good finish right around the corner." That "last week" was the Rocket Classic, where Fowler carded back-to-back rounds of 71, finishing T106 and missing the cut by four strokes. The result sent him slipping just outside the coveted top 70 needed to reach the FedEx Cup Playoffs. NBC's Eamon Lynch, however, wasn't convinced by Fowler's 'good golf' optimism: "Rickie Fowler is sort of an enigma these days," Lynch saidduring a Golf Channel segment. "We talk a lot about his ball striking and how that's been an issue. This is a guy who once led the PGA Tour in approach stats—now he's 100th. "He's making a lot of cuts, but just two top-10s in 40 starts since winning in Detroit. It's a lot of cuts, but not a lot of progress." That Detroit win in 2023 broke Fowler's four-year drought, but his iron play hasn't recovered. Golf Channel's Ryan Lavner added, "I think when you hear Rickie diagnosing what's going on with his game currently, one thing he didn't mention in particular was his approach play." "Keep in mind, just two years ago, he was the seventh-best iron player on the PGA Tour. It's really hard to be competitive on today's PGA Tour without an elite iron game." Lavner continued: "A perfect example is what happened last week with Rocket Classic winner Aldrich Potgieter, missing a boatload of cuts, one of the worst iron players on the PGA Tour. What happens? He makes an equipment tweak. All of a sudden he has his best iron performance of the year in Detroit, and now is a first-time PGA Tour winner." "Rickie Fowler is outside the top 100 in strokes gained approach. You do not see any elite player in that sort of vicinity." "So while he's seeing upticks in his driving, certainly seeing upticks with his putting, that's really the main part of his game that's holding him back." Stats support Lavner and Lynch's reality check of Fowler Rickie Fowler ranks 103rd in Strokes Gained: Approach, 123rd in Greens in Regulation, and 111th in his current OWGR (Official World Golf ranking). While his short game has kept him in tournaments, his iron play is below Tour average, a reality Fowler acknowledged earlier this season but hasn't publicly addressed this week. As of now, Fowler teed off in Round 1 of the John Deere Classic and is paired with Max Homa and Jake Knapp. Thus far, he is 1-over through five holes. With the playoffs right around the corner, one thing's clear—"playing good golf" isn't going to cut it anymore. More Golf: Tiger Woods' girlfriend, Venessa Trump reveals truth behind Kai's name

Max Homa Puts 'A**hole' Fans on Blast, 'Sorry PGA Tour'
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Max Homa has gone from being one of the most prominent professional golfers on social media to almost completely disconnected, and he has done so in a very short time. His X account still exists, but Homa has remained inactive for five months now. The reason is that the haters have finally taken away his joy of being online. "It's a safe haven for assholes, for lack of a better term. Sorry PGA Tour," Homa said on the matter. Max Homa of the United States looks on from the fourth green during the second round of the Rocket Classic 2025 at Detroit Golf Club on June 27, 2025 in Detroit, six-time PGA Tour winner addressed the issue during his press conference before the John Deere Classic. Homa spoke in the most blunt terms about his reasons for nearly eliminating his social media presence. "The reason for that was just the vitriol you read online. It has become a safe haven for people who are angry themselves. It is quite absurd what people -- how comfortable people feel writing awful things...," he said. "Twitter or X is an awful, awful place. It took me a while to catch onto how impactful that can be and how much of a waste of energy." Homa's X account has been completely inactive since early February. The player confirmed that he still has some online activity, but deeply limited. "I stepped away a lot also from Instagram, but I feel like that's been a bit less crazy; although still not great, so I take my breaks from that...," he said. ⛳️❌👨💻 #SAFE HAVEN — Max Homa talks about why he stepped away from social media: 'Twitter or X is an awful, awful place. I'm happy… — NUCLR GOLF (@NUCLRGOLF) July 2, 2025 Max Homa: "I miss the connection with the fans" Naturally, this position hasn't been easy for him. Homa described the main challenges of virtually withdrawing from social media: "I miss the connection with the fans, but nothing comes without, I mean, just so much hate and nothing to do with not contacting people. I would love to connect with people, but I'd love to do it in person." Max Homa was well known for his interactions with fans, primarily on X. His humorous, mostly golf-related posts made him very popular on social media. He currently has more than 689,000 followers on X and more than 750,000 on Instagram. Other professional players and influencers who also have a strong presence on social media have repeatedly denounced all kinds of negative behavior from some users. Examples include Charley Hull, Nelly Korda, and Paige Spiranac, among others. More Golf: Aldrich Potgieter sees parallels with Scottie Scheffler after first win
