Indian flag (Photo by) NEW DELHI: A 27-member Indian wushu contingent is stranded in Shanghai following the landfall of Typhoon Co-May, which led to the cancellation of hundreds of flights and disrupted road and rail connectivity in China. The junior wushu team has been accommodated in a hotel in Shanghai amid fears of coastal surges as the tropical storm swept through several eastern Chinese cities. According to a team official, the strong 8.8-magnitude earthquake off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula triggered cyclone alerts along parts of China's coast. The Indian team was in China to compete in the 12th Asian Junior Wushu Championships, held from July 23 to 30 in Jiangyin's Wuxi City, Jiangsu province. India secured a total of nine medals in the tournament, including one gold, five silver, and three bronze. The team travelled to Shanghai from Jiangyin by road and was scheduled to depart the city on Wednesday for a connecting flight in Hong Kong. However, upon their arrival in Shanghai, they were informed that the flight had been cancelled due to Typhoon Co-May. 'In Shanghai, it was scary because of the landfall. The official said the team is awaiting confirmation from the airline regarding their rescheduled flight back home.
