FDA: Over 17,000 Ice Cream Cartons Recalled Over Contamination Concerns
Ice cream containers manufactured by Wells Enterprises were recalled over plastic particle contamination concerns. Restaurants and bulk food stores were affected. Plastic sprinkles aren't a preferred frozen treat topping, which is why over 17,800 cartons of ice cream manufactured by Wells Enterprises were recently recalled, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced in a report. Several varieties of ice cream across well-known brands were pulled from production because they may be contaminated with plastic particles. The Iowa-based ice cream plant initiated the recall. Three-gallon tubs of both ice cream and frozen yogurt were affected and distributed among 103 locations, including Gordon Food Service and Sysco. Over 20 Different Brands Of Ice Cream Recalled For Potential Plastic Contamination
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream, but before you eat another bite, be sure to check the packaging. That's because there is a massive recall of nearly 18,000 containers of ice cream, frozen treats, and frozen yogurt over concerns that they could contain pieces of plastic. Wells Enterprises, an Iowa-based ice cream manufacturer, which is the parent company of Blue Bunny, Bomb Pops, and Halo Top, issued the voluntary recall last month, according to recently released information from the Food and Drug Administration. Dallas news outlet KXAS-TV reports that the nationwide recall includes 22 flavors across a variety of brands of ice cream and frozen yogurt, which were all sold in three-gallon containers. The ice cream was distributed from 103 centers across the United States, including Houston, Texas and Fort Worth, Texas. The recalled products have 'Best If Used By' dates ranging from March to October 2026. If you picked up any of these flavors before the long weekend and the summer heatwaves, throw them out or return to the store where they were purchased. These are the affected products. More Than 17,800 Ice Cream Cartons Recalled Due to Plastic Contamination—Here's What to Know
More than 17,800 cartons of ice cream and frozen yogurt were recalled after plastic pieces were found in the product. The ice cream was sold in Texas, Iowa, Illinois, Wyoming, and you recently bought ice cream or frozen yogurt at the grocery store, check the label before consuming it. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a recall of more than 17,800 cartons of ice cream due to the presence of plastic pieces in the product. The recall was initiated on April 25, 2025, by Wells Enterprises, Inc., based in Le Mars, Iowa. It includes 22 flavors of ice cream and frozen yogurt packaged in 3-gallon cartons. The contaminated desserts were distributed to 103 centers nationwide, per the report, with venues of distribution including restaurants, cafeterias and food service companies. All of the affected product was sold in 3-gallon containers, the company stated. As for the specific products, a large swathe of Wells Enterprises' various in-house-made and affiliate partner desserts were recalled, with the largest sample being 5,280 tubs of "Vanilla Frozen Yogurt."
