Erie police said a tip and evidence including surveillance video and social media posts led detectives to charge a 26-year-old man with attempted homicide and other offenses in a July 20 shooting that wounded a city man. Rod E. Tate, whom police said is an Erie resident but whose arrest and court records list his last known address as in Georgia, was arraigned July 31 on charges in the July 20 shooting at East 24th and Wallace streets. He faces charges including attempted homicide, felony aggravated assault, and multiple misdemeanor counts of recklessly endangering another person. Tate was placed in the Erie County Prison on $100,000 bond following his arraignment. A lawyer for him was not listed on his criminal docket sheet Aug. 1. What is he accused of? Erie police detectives accuse Tate of being the person who fired gunshots that wounded a 28-year-old man on the evening of July 20 in the area of East 24th and Wallace streets. Police said after the shooting that it occurred during a reported disturbance. Detectives wrote in the affidavit filed with Tate's criminal complaint that the victim was taken to UPMC Hamot by private vehicle after being shot through the thigh and suffering a wrist injury. Police said they learned through a tip that Tate was a possible suspect in the shooting, and through investigation determined Tate had prior interactions with officers in which he was found to be the owner of a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. More: Erie police refile attempted homicide, other charges against city men in April shooting In reviewing surveillance video in the area of the shooting, investigators learned that the shooting victim and another person were fighting when one person pointed a gun at the victim. Another person is then seen with a gun, and that person is seen firing the weapon at the victim, according to information in the affidavit. Video showed the shooting suspect run toward a parked Hyundai Sonata that matched the description of the vehicle identified in prior police encounters with Tate, according to information in the affidavit. Other video from before the shooting that police reviewed showed the driver of the Hyundai wearing clothing similar to the clothing worn by the shooter, detectives wrote. Investigators said they additionally reviewed social media content that confirmed Tate's identity as the accused shooter and which detailed an ongoing feud with the victim, according to information in the affidavit.
