ABQ Boy, Girl Scouts place American flags on veteran headstones for Memorial Day
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – It's an annual tradition during Memorial Day weekend for some scout troops in Albuquerque, as a way to honor those who lost their lives fighting for our country. 'I like to pay tribute to the people we've lost in battle,' said one of the Girl Scouts. 'We owe them a great debt of gratitude,' said Peter Stine, an Assistant Boy Scout Master. Sunday, Boy and Girl Scouts took to Sunset Memorial Park to continue that tradition by placing flags on veteran gravesites. 'I think this is a really nice thing that we do every year,' said Catherine Wertz, a Girl Scout. 'It lets us give back to the veterans and honor them.' Boy Scouts of America rebrands to 'Scouting America' For Stine, and Girl Scout leader, Danielle Roesch, the holiday hits close to home. Stine served in the Navy and has been participating in the event for nearly 40 years. 'Memorial Day has always been special to me, because it memorializes the people that were killed in action,' Stine explained. Roesch, on the other hand, is a 20-year veteran. She retired in 2022. 'I have friends I've lost, and so this is a way…I can't get to where they are, so I give back by being here,' Roesch added. Hundreds of flags were placed, as scouts moved from row to row identifying veterans by their headstones. Participants of the event say it illustrates the connection between generations and the ongoing commitment to honoring service and sacrifice. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. What will happen to businesses within the security zone during NATO Assembly?
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — International delegates will start arriving in downtown next week for the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Spring Session. In the week leading up to the session, there's some uncertainty for business owners operating inside the security zone. NATO is coming to Dayton, here's what to know Many owners say they are excited to welcome guests, but there's still a lot of unknowns. So many unknowns that one of Dayton's classic pizza joints is closing its doors for the duration of NATO. 'There'll be a hassle and the inconvenience of customers coming in and out. That's the main thing,' said Tony Gracie, co-owner of The Flying Pizza. Gracie says the business decided it just wasn't worth it. 'I think the biggest thing was the actual security, not only the security, but the convenience for customers to come in and out,' said Gracie. Other owners told 2 NEWS they'll stay open but still have questions about procedure. 'We have clients scheduled, so they don't know exactly how they're going to be able to get here, where they're going to park, if there's going to be some sort of shuttles,' said Tshana Davis, owner of Studio 816. 'So that's my biggest concern about just how we will be able to maneuver throughout the event.' Davis has owned Studio 816 for nine years. With such an unprecedented event happening next week, she plans to wait for proper guidance from officials. DPD releases updated security zone for NATO summit Other businesses are in a position where they won't be hurting for money — they just have to pivot a little. 'There's still some unknowns. No doubt about that. At the same time, you know, we're really excited because we get to be part of something history,' said Tim Roesch, Parking Management Company. PMC operates valet for downtown area hotels. Roesch says they will do the best they can to navigate the changes. 'Where we're parking, the routes that we're taking, which roads we can travel and which we can't,' said Roesch. LIST: What is closing in Dayton during the NATO Assembly? The Flying Pizza initially planned on welcoming international visitors, but ultimately decided to just close their doors. 'Step aside for the week, and then we'll be back the following week,' said Grace. 'So from that Tuesday to the following Tuesday, we'll be shut down and then we'll be reopening that following Wednesday.' Overall, most business owners are welcoming the once-in-a-lifetime experience. 'I don't really have a problem with it at all,' said Davis. 'I'm actually excited to see it come.' 'My whole team is really excited about it,' said Roesch. Around 300 parliamentarians from 32 NATO countries will arrive in downtown next week. Click here to learn more. ‘We had a great 10 years': The Brasserie Bar & Bistro in Camillus to close
CAMILLUS, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — A staple for Camillus' Township 5 will close its doors this July. The Brasserie Bar & Bistro has held a spot near Witty Wicks, the Movie Tavern, and many other businesses in the Camillus lifestyle center for about ten years. One owner of the restaurant, Michelle Roesch — who co-owns with her mother, Nora — told NewsChannel 9 that their lease is up in July, and they have decided not to renew. 'We had a great 10 years but it's just time to move forward. Our main concern right now is making sure our team is set up for their next steps in their careers and enjoying more lunches and dinners with the community we've created at The Brasserie,' explained Roesch. The mother-daughter duo also owns the popular rooftop bar in Tipperary Hill, Emerald Cocktail Kitchen. For many, the Brasserie has been known for its European-style foods, fun drinks, and swanky events. 'It's just time for my mom and I to venture out to new things and continue to grow emerald,' said Roesch. Although the lease is up at the end of July, Roesch does not yet have an exact closure date. Roesch said it depends on what tenant will replace them and how their team is feeling. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Armie Hammer Thriller ‘Dark Knight' Getting New Title Following Chat With Warner Bros. (EXCLUSIVE)
German filmmaker Uwe Boll has changed the name of his upcoming Armie Hammer crime thriller 'The Dark Knight' to 'Citizen Vigilante' after hearing from both Warner Bros. and Batman fans alike. Based on an original script by Boll, the film stars Hammer as Sanders, a man who takes justice into his own hands and sets out to hunt down criminals. His vigilante crusade turns him into a social media sensation and a hero in the eyes of the public. Variety has reached out to Warner Bros. for comment about the title change. No' 'We had a very friendly conversation with Warner Bros. and decided to change our title to 'Citizen Vigilante' to avoid any confusion with Warners' famous character,' Boll told Variety. 'We also got a lot of feedback from fans, who asked us to change the title because of its similarity with Chris Nolan's movie, so this was another factor in changing the title,' added executive producer Michael Roesch. Warner Bros. 'contacted us and asked us to change the title,' Roesch explained. 'It was a very amicable discussion.' The team also received 'a lot of feedback through social media, emails and comments to articles in the media,' Roesch noted. Shot entirely in and around Zagreb, Croatia, the film also stars Costas Mandylor stars as Interpol officer Henry, who aims to bring Sanders down. 'It is set in an Eastern European city, and while we don't mention the name of the city in the movie, people who know the city will recognize it is Zagreb, so it is set in Croatia,' Roesch said. 'But it is a universal story and could play in every bigger European city.' 'Citizen Vigilante' marks a comeback for Hammer, whose career took a major hit in 2021 following allegations of sexual misconduct. While Los Angeles prosecutors ultimately declined to charge the actor with any crime in the wake of a lengthy probe, job offers remained scarce, until recent months. The 'Call Me by Your Name' star returned to work late last year in Travis Mills' forthcoming western 'Frontier Crucible,' which also features Thomas Jane and William H. Macy. Hammer's previous credits include such high-profile works as Gore Verbinski's 'The Lone Ranger' alongside Johnny Depp and Guy Ritchie's 'The Man from U.N.C.L.E.' with Henry Cavill. 'Citizen Vigilante' has wrapped and is currently being edited by Ethan Maniquis, with Tunnel in Santa Monica handling post production. Roesch said he's expecting the picture to be 'locked in a few weeks.' The production has also signed composer Rodolfo Matulich to score the pic. The team will present 'Citizen Vigilante' at this year's Cannes Film Market with at least a promo reel. 'Although we are ahead of schedule, the full movie will most likely not be finished by then,' Roesch noted.
