Armie Hammer Thriller ‘Dark Knight' Getting New Title Following Chat With Warner Bros. (EXCLUSIVE)
German filmmaker Uwe Boll has changed the name of his upcoming Armie Hammer crime thriller 'The Dark Knight' to 'Citizen Vigilante' after hearing from both Warner Bros. and Batman fans alike.
Based on an original script by Boll, the film stars Hammer as Sanders, a man who takes justice into his own hands and sets out to hunt down criminals. His vigilante crusade turns him into a social media sensation and a hero in the eyes of the public. Variety has reached out to Warner Bros. for comment about the title change.

'We had a very friendly conversation with Warner Bros. and decided to change our title to 'Citizen Vigilante' to avoid any confusion with Warners' famous character,' Boll told Variety.
'We also got a lot of feedback from fans, who asked us to change the title because of its similarity with Chris Nolan's movie, so this was another factor in changing the title,' added executive producer Michael Roesch.
Warner Bros. 'contacted us and asked us to change the title,' Roesch explained. 'It was a very amicable discussion.'
The team also received 'a lot of feedback through social media, emails and comments to articles in the media,' Roesch noted.
Shot entirely in and around Zagreb, Croatia, the film also stars Costas Mandylor stars as Interpol officer Henry, who aims to bring Sanders down.
'It is set in an Eastern European city, and while we don't mention the name of the city in the movie, people who know the city will recognize it is Zagreb, so it is set in Croatia,' Roesch said. 'But it is a universal story and could play in every bigger European city.'
'Citizen Vigilante' marks a comeback for Hammer, whose career took a major hit in 2021 following allegations of sexual misconduct. While Los Angeles prosecutors ultimately declined to charge the actor with any crime in the wake of a lengthy probe, job offers remained scarce, until recent months.
The 'Call Me by Your Name' star returned to work late last year in Travis Mills' forthcoming western 'Frontier Crucible,' which also features Thomas Jane and William H. Macy. Hammer's previous credits include such high-profile works as Gore Verbinski's 'The Lone Ranger' alongside Johnny Depp and Guy Ritchie's 'The Man from U.N.C.L.E.' with Henry Cavill.
'Citizen Vigilante' has wrapped and is currently being edited by Ethan Maniquis, with Tunnel in Santa Monica handling post production. Roesch said he's expecting the picture to be 'locked in a few weeks.'
The production has also signed composer Rodolfo Matulich to score the pic.
The team will present 'Citizen Vigilante' at this year's Cannes Film Market with at least a promo reel. 'Although we are ahead of schedule, the full movie will most likely not be finished by then,' Roesch noted.

Search Initiated for Madeleine McCann After Almost Two Decades
Authorities in Europe have restarted a search for a missing toddler, nearly 20 years after her initial disappearance. Several German agents filed into the Algarve in southern Portugal on Tuesday, searching for British toddler Madeleine McCann. McCann and her family visited Portugal back in 2007. As her parents ate a meal nearby, the three-year old Madeleine vanished and has not been seen since. Police did not disclose why they began the search again, but they gathered around a residence owned by the only suspect in the case. The man, also from Germany, is currently serving time for rape and sexual assault charges unrelated to the McCann case. Teams looked through undergrowth in the area and an abandoned building, attempting to connect the man - named Christian Brueckner - to evidence that would implicate him in the child's disappearance. According to The Sun, the team of around 25 German investigators are equipped with ground radar technology that will allow them to see up to 12 feet beneath them. Brueckner's cottage included several wells and ditches beneath the surface, and the team is looking to exhaust all options. Brueckner has yet to be charged in connection to McCann's disappearance, but German authorities noted their belief in his involvement in 2020. "We opened a murder investigation against the 43-year old German national, therefore you can conclude that we assume the girl is dead," said a spokesperson for the Braunschweig prosecutor's office. That investigation was the first major update in the incident since it was initially considered a missing persons case in Britain. Brueckner has a string of previous arrests and convictions for sexual offense, theft and assault. He reportedly burglarized hotel rooms and holiday rentals like the one the McCann family were staying in back in 2007. At the time of Madeleine's disappearance, Brueckner was living alone in a camper van. Madeleine's parents released a statement on May 3, marking 18 years since their daughter's disappearance. "The years appear to be passing even more quickly and whilst we have no significant news to share, our determination to 'leave no stone unturned' is unwavering," Kate and Gerry McCann said on "We will do our utmost to achieve this." Arnold Schwarzenegger, Maria Shriver offer differing takes on son's nude scene on ‘The White Lotus'
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver have shared their initial reactions to watching their son Patrick Schwarzenegger strip down on-camera for ' The White Lotus,' revealing starkly different perspectives. 'I couldn't believe (it). I said to myself, 'I'm watching your show, and I'm watching your butt sticking out there.' And all of a sudden, I see the weenie,' the former California governor candidly recalled during a joint appearance with his son on Variety's video series 'Actors on Actors,' released Tuesday, June 3. 'What is going on here? This is crazy.' Patrick's full-frontal nude scene was part of his role as Saxon Ratliff on the HBO show's third season. While his father emphasized his initial shock at the scene, which he watched during an advance screening ahead of its premiere, his mother shared during separate interviews that she was unfazed. "People are like, 'Oh my God, you saw!' (and) I'm like, 'I gave birth to him,'" Shriver said during a Tuesday appearance on 'The Jamie Kern Lima Show.' "I've seen him naked since he was a baby." The former journalist, who was married to Arnold for 25 years, previously told People Magazine that she didn't even notice the nudity when she first watched the episode. "I'm just looking at him and his craft really," she said Tuesday, noting she only realized after her other children —Patrick's siblings Kathernine, Christina and Christopher — pointed it out. Though Arnold was appalled at first, he said that he quickly came to the same conclusion as his ex-wife, and acknowledged that his son was simply following in his own footsteps. 'I said to myself, 'Well, Arnold, hello. You did the same thing in 'Conan' and 'Terminator,' so don't complain about it,'' he said, referring to his own nude scenes. By the time Patrick's racy scene on 'The White Lotus' aired, Arnold had made his peace with it and even trolled him on social media, joking that 'the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.' During the father-son duo's recent 'Actors on Actors' interview, Arnold went on to speak with his son about nepotism and privilege within the industry, and how one rises above that. 'If you show you have the substance, you can get rid of the whole idea of nepotism,' Arnold said, directly addressing his son. 'You have never asked me to call a studio or to call an agent. You never asked me for advice when it comes to acting itself. You're a rare breed.' Shriver expressed a similar sense of pride toward her son. "I think people, when they see somebody in a show like that, they don't realize how much leads up to that moment,' she said. 'They don't realize how hard he's worked or how many roles he hasn't gotten."

Madeleine McCann investigators remove ‘evidence' from abandoned houses
Detectives investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann have taken samples of potential evidence from abandoned houses near where she went missing 18 years ago. A squad of half a dozen German and Portuguese police officers and firefighters used chainsaws, hedge trimmers and pickaxes to clear thick foliage and access several crumbling ruins near Praia Da Luz in the Algarve on Tuesday morning. The officers removed mounds of earth and deposited them in plastic containers, which will be taken away for further examination. Close by, two blue supply tents had been set up to store equipment, including a ground-penetrating radar device. At one derelict sand-coloured house, approximately 300 metres from the coastline, a group of four firemen and one police officer pumped a disused well dry. The full crew of around two dozen police officers, firefighters and detectives undertook the eight-hour search from 9am. They were joined by a pair of plain-clothed detectives. The search is expected to last for three more days and will encompass more than 20 privately owned plots of land to the east of the coastal town where the three-year-old went missing while on holiday with her parents on May 3 2007. It covers a region of scrubland, dotted with disused wells, crumbling farmhouses and dirt tracks, that sits only a few miles from the Ocean Club resort where Madeleine vanished as her parents Kate and Gerry ate tapas nearby with their friends. The operation was launched at the behest of German authorities as part of their investigation into Christian Brueckner, a convicted paedophile and prime suspect in the case who rented two properties in Praia Da Luz around the time of her disappearance. The suspect has said he plans to disappear after his release from prison. Scotland Yard said it did not plan to send officers to help with the search but it was ready to assist if necessary. The BKA, Germany's equivalent of the FBI, hopes that any forensics salvaged from the dig sites may also yield the key piece of evidence needed to formally charge Brueckner. Brueckner, who is to due to be released after serving a seven-year-prison sentence for raping an American tourist in 2005, has always denied his involvement. During Tuesday's search, several officers wore face masks to protect themselves from the clouds of dust thrown up by the work in the 71F (22C) temperatures. Their efforts attracted the attention of passing cyclists who slowed down and stopped by the dig sites out of curiosity. Footage of the scene showed uniformed officers on a cordon on a dirt road in Atalaia – a neighbourhood of Lagos municipality – waving through unmarked vans and cars. The vehicles had German licence plates from the city of Wiesbaden, where the BKA has its headquarters. A van belonging to Portugal's Maritime Police, a force that has jurisdiction over coastal areas and took part in previous searches of beaches, wells and reservoirs using specialist divers, also arrived. A no-fly zone was enforced by police and dirt tracks leading into the scrubland from the coastal path were cordoned off with police tape. The search is expected to resume on Wednesday.
