Greene County worries for citizens mental health after tornado

GREENE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Following Friday night's damaging storms and EF-2 tornado in Greene County, local officials are discussing the importance of taking care of mental health. The Linton Assembly of God Church has counseling available for people who may be struggling during this time. Greene County EMA Director Roger Axe encourages people to lean on others for support. Greene Co. EMA introduces new Reverse 9-1-1 program

GREENE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Greene County Emergency Management is introducing its Reverse 9-1-1 program. This will be an alert system used mainly for incoming bad weather, school incidents, or major vehicle accidents. The program is free to enroll in, and it will be operated through the Greene County Sheriff Dispatch. Greene County's Emergency Management Director Roger Axe said he thinks this program will be more cost efficient and effective than the current system in place. 'Sirens are extremely expensive and extremely expensive to maintain,' said Axe. 'This is us getting the biggest bang for our buck, and you also don't always hear sirens. This is a rural county, and we can cover the county better with this system than we can with sirens.' Organizations receive grants to expand recycling programs Axe said that every second counts when it comes to the spread of information in a disaster situation. He said this will allow the county to keep the public informed in a number of different ways. 'Most people carry a cell phone, so we can notify them,' said Axe. 'We can notify your landline, we can send a text or voice message, and we can also send you an email. We can do this in many ways to hit the population.' Axe added that you will be able to unenroll from this program at any time for any reason. A link to sign up for this program can be found here. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
