Body of 13-year-old boy found in pond west of Interstate 95

PORT ST. LUCIE − A 13-year-old boy diagnosed with autism was found dead in a pond not far from his home hours after being reported missing, according to Port St. Lucie police. The body of Roger Rivera was found about 7 p.m. Aug. 10, police stated. The death appears to be accidental with no evidence of foul play, police stated. Police about 2:15 p.m. Aug. 10 went to a home in the 12000 block of Macelli Way regarding a missing endangered disabled teen. The location is west of Interstate 95 and north of Crosstown Parkway. Investigators learned Roger was with his mother in his backyard before he 'suddenly bolted,' police stated. His mother ran after him, but lost sight of him. She flagged down the closest person she could find to call 911. An iPad belonging to Roger was found near a body of water, and witnesses saw him wading in the water before police arrived. Investigators searched a pond not far from Roger's home about 6 p.m., and his body was recovered about 7 p.m., police stated.
