Creation of Pakistan: Minister highlights role of religious minorities
LAHORE: A thought-provoking and historic seminar titled 'The Role of Minorities in the Creation and Continuity of Pakistan' was held at Alhamra Art Council, Lahore, as part of the Jashn-e-Urdu celebrations. The event was graced by Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs, Ramesh Singh Arora, as the chief guest. The seminar aimed to highlight the significant historical and contemporary contributions of religious minorities to the unity, development, and progress of Pakistan. In his address, Ramesh Singh Arora remarked that religious minorities in Pakistan are like vibrant colors in the bouquet of our nation, completing its beauty and harmony. According to the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, we are all equal citizens. The Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, is transforming this vision into reality through inclusive and historic reforms. He paid tribute to the sacrifices made by minorities during the Pakistan Movement and acknowledged the contributions of individuals from minority communities in fostering education, political engagement, social harmony, and national progress. Ramen Arora also elaborated on several key initiatives currently being undertaken by the Punjab government for minority communities, including: Construction, renovation, and expansion of religious sites belonging to minority groups, Educational scholarships for deserving minority students, Legislative reforms for the protection of minority rights and Cultural and training programs to promote interfaith harmony. Mufti Ashiq Hussain emphasized the importance of interfaith unity and stated that Islam teaches respect for all communities. The development of Pakistan is only possible when we embrace diversity with open hearts. Macdonald Chandi, a well-known Christian community leader, appreciated the provincial government's outreach: Dr Majeed Able, added that the role of minorities in the Pakistan Movement has been understated in our textbooks. It's time to give rightful space to these heroes of history. Copyright Business Recorder, 2025

Simran Clarifies "Dabba Role" Comment: "It Reached The Person Correctly"
New Delhi: Tamil actor Simran's winning speech at an award function hit the headlines as Simran referred to a certain "Dabba Role". Soon after her speech went viral, the Internet assumed that the comment was meant for Jyotika, who recently acted in the Netflix series Dabba Cartel. Simran, now, has clarified that her comment reached the person it was meant for. She said, "Dabba Cartel is a nice web series, people are just breaking down with their speculation. It reached the person correctly whom I mentioned. That person messaged me that she is sorry and didn't mean to hurt me." Simran won an award for her negative role in Andhagan. She recalled an incident when a fellow actress mocked her for playing "aunty roles" during her acceptance speech. The fellow actress, actually, sent Simran a text to applaud her performance but she jokingly said, "At least I'm not doing aunty roles." Without revealing the name of the actress, Jyotika said, "But I feel it's better to do aunty roles and main aunty roles - mother of 25 years. I have done it in Kannathil Muthamittal also, than playing dabba roles and doing nothing. That's what I feel. We should feel confident about what we all want to do." After the speech went viral, the Internet assumed that her comment was either for Jyotika or Laila, as the former actress had recently appeared in the Netflix show, Dabba Cartel. On the work front, Simran is riding high on the success of her latest release, Tourist Family.

Boat marathon powers up gorge
Brothers Jake and Lachy Hall in front of Lachy's boat Bulletproof. PHOTO: ELLA JENKINS The roar of powerboats echoed through the Cromwell Gorge on Saturday as rounds two and three of the New Zealand Boat Marathon Commission's 2025 race calendar were held in Central Otago. Lake Dunstan Powerboat Marathon organiser and racer Daniel Role said 30 racers, including some from the North Island, took part in the event. Role said his first race went well, with his boat Unruley 1 coming third in the 100km, six-lap marathon race to the Clyde Dam and back. A feature of the marathon is any boat can race, ranging from the most powerful A-class boats to cabin boats, provided they have the correct safety equipment. "So your family cruiser, all you've got to do is turn up with a helmet, a lifejacket and a fire extinguisher and you can go pretty much." Later on Saturday, Role and other competitors took part in a nominated speed trial, where competitors select a speed above 48kmh and maintain it, with points deducted for being over or under the nominated speed. Round three on Sunday saw racers take part in a drag race between Clyde Dam and Roxburgh Dam where Unruley 1 got the chance to hit 148kmh, which Role said was its typical speed. Role, who has been racing for 15 years after being inspired by watching his father compete in the 1970s, said the racing community was a close-knit but competitive one. "It's about the fun and the camaraderie and we get serious for an hour," he said For Timaru brothers Lachy and Jake Hall, in their fourth time racing in Cromwell, their hopes were dashed on Saturday morning by a cracked engine mount. Jake said racing in Cromwell was an awesome experience. "It's fast so it's good," he said.
