NY Giants' Abdul Carter Gets High Praise From NFL Champion

Watching the New York Giants from a distance, the one-time NFL Champion Antrel Rolle has been left disappointed in recent times. "I love my Giants, I just felt like there were some bad moves along the way," Rolle told Gambling Industry News recently. "GM moves. They got rid of some guys and paid some guys, where it didn't make sense to me. The film doesn't lie." Rolle's sentiment is no different than the masses. As the Giants have struggled in the post-Eli Manning era, a lot of fingers have been pointed at the top in the front office. Are the Giants finally turning it around? The former All-Pro is confident the Giants are starting to get back on track, and the decision to draft Abdul Carter is one move the former cornerback has praised. Abdul Carter #51 of the New York Giants during rookie minicamp at NY Giants Quest Diagnostics Training Center on May 09, 2025 in East Rutherford, New Jersey."They are trying to get back into the right direction," Rolle added. "They drafted the stud they drafted this year. He's going to be a helluva player. That goes without saying." Coming out of Penn State, Carter was highly regarded as one of the top prospects in the player pool. He was taken third overall by the Giants. At PSU, Carter registered 23 sacks and 172 tackles across three seasons. Carter will bolster the defense, and improve an already-impressive pass rush. Then, the Giants' offense could see some key improvements under center, as New York added three new quarterbacks to the roster. One of them is the team's other first-rounder, Jaxson Dart. Dart enters the NFL after a four-year run in the NCAA. He started his college career at USC before spending the final three years playing for Ole Miss. After a shaky first season, Dart led Ole Miss to an 11-2 record in 2023, while passing for over 3,300 yards and 23 touchdowns. On the ground, he rushed for 391 yards and eight touchdowns. During Dart's final run at Ole Miss, he achieved a 10-3 record. As a senior, he threw for 4,279 yards and 29 touchdowns. On the ground, he ran for 495 yards and three touchdowns. The Giants added Dart with the 25th overall pick, selecting him, along with Abdul Carter, in the first round. For now, Dart isn't expected to kick his Giants era off just yet. After signing Russell Wilson for one season, the expectation is that Dart will redshirt, leaving Wilson to compete every week as long as he's healthy. Rolle is cautiously confident in that plan, as he believes Malik Nabers will help whoever is out there to help him. "You have Nabers, who's been playing out of his mind," Rolle said. "Russell Wilson can distribute the ball. How good will Russ be? That's to be determined. But we haven't seen a huge decline in Russell Wilson." After one season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Wilson is hoping to build a strong connection with Nabers, who is coming off a major season. Meanwhile, Dart will learn from the seasoned vet while preparing to take over as the future face of the Giants. For more Philadelphia Eagles and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports

3-time Pro Bowler says joining New York Giants was an awakening: Just different

When Antrel Rolle joined the New York Giants in 2014, it was smack in the middle of the best of the Tom Coughlin era. The Arizona Cardinals had just released him so the team could avoid a $4 million bonus, and while the Cardinals expressed interest in re-signing him, Rolle attended meetings with both the Giants and the Miami Dolphins. Ultimately, Rolle signed with the Giants and was part of the 2011 Super Bowl team. What he wasn't prepared for, though, was the distinct treatment of NFL players in the New York market. When Rolle spoke with Gambling Industry News earlier this week, he was asked if he could tell the difference between the organizations. 'Oh, like that," he said, snapping his fingers. "'Oh, so this is what the NFL is like?' No shade on the Cardinals, but you didn't get that NFL love. We got it on Sundays because of the new stadium, the fans were rocking, the fans were awesome. You got it then. But outside of that, we didn't get the love. It felt like we were a forgotten team. When I got to New York, man, you'd have to be careful sneezing or it could get headlines. "And you felt it within the organization. Ownership was different. (John Mara) loved it, lived it, adored it. It wasn't a money thing. It really mattered to them. I'm not saying it was necessarily like that with the Cardinals, but I wouldn't know, because I didn't have any close interactions with (the Bidwills). Just hi and bye, things of that nature. "But you could just tell. The equipment, the locker room, the facilities, the meal prep. Everything was different from top to bottom. It was eye-opening, and it was appreciated. I really appreciated that (in New York)." This recollection from Rolle is exactly what the Giants are trying to get back to. Jerry Reese built a solid culture in New York with the help of Coughlin. When they both departed, that's when things got really messy. Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll are trying to put the Giants back atop the league as a respected organization. Rolle earned two Pro Bowl appearances, two second-team All-Pro selections, and a Super Bowl ring with the Giants.

Ex-New York Giants safety thinks Odell Beckham Jr. could mentor Malik Nabers

The New York Giants are at a tipping point in 2025. If they don't perform well this year, there's relative certainty that Brian Daboll will lose his job. Joe Schoen is on the hot seat, too, but Daboll will be the one to go first. It would be everyone's preference, including the Giants', that the scenario doesn't play out. Consistency and continuity are the best recipe for long-term success. Daboll has a new roster to work with in 2025, and with training camp just one week away, the Giants want to ensure he has the best roster possible. Two former Giants who have expressed interest in returning are wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and edge rusher Jason Pierre-Paul. Recently, Antrel Rolle spoke with Gambling Industry News, and he was asked if it made sense for either of those players to return. "I'd love to see it, but that's me being biased because those are my boys. I'd love to see them go out on their own terms at MetLife Stadium. Obviously, we know Odell's had a lot of injuries, but I still think Odell has a lot left in the tank," Rolle said. "I just don't feel like he's been used properly. The last time we saw that was when he was with L.A. "We have yet to see him used like that since then. If he's healthy, I'd still say OBJ, with his route-running and the way he can separate in and out of breaks, he can be a top-15 receiver in the game today. If he's targeted correctly." A "And JPP is just an absolute freak. I would love to see both my guys go out on their own terms in MetLife Stadium. That would be dope," he said. JPP, as a standout edge rusher, got his start in New York and played eight seasons in blue. His last true season was with the Baltimore Ravens in 2022, although he appeared on two additional practice squads in 2023. As for OBJ, well, Giants fans don't forget, and with a new regime in the office, a return, although unlikely, isn't entirely out of the question. Rolle believes he could be a good mentor for Malik Nabers. "Oh, absolutely, it would be helpful. One of my mentors, Deon Grant, taught me so much on and off the field. You can't put a price on those things," Rolle said. "He was such a pivotal part for us in that (2012) Super Bowl run, and a lot of times it was behind closed doors. The only people that knew were the players. No coaches, no media, none of that. Those things are such hidden gifts." Nabers is entering his second season with the Giants, and his rookie campaign had him in the Offensive Rookie of the Year conversation before Jayden Daniels ran away with it. He and OBJ share an alma mater, and with Beckham's experience through all of the drama he perpetuated, he can certainly pass on some knowledge.

Former NFL CB compares Steelers Jalen Ramsey to HOF corner

When the Pittsburgh Steelers traded for cornerback Jalen Ramsey, they knew they were getting a former All-Pro and a defender with plenty of game left at just 30 years old. We already talked about where we think Ramsey will and should play in the Steelers' secondary this season, but more and more pundits and former players tend to see Ramsey as a safety at this point in his career. But maybe that's not such a bad thing, if your career trajectory is being compared to a similar player who made the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In a recent interview, former NFL cornerback Antrel Rolle talked about Ramsey's situation with the Steelers and compared him to former NFL defensive back Charles Woodson. Woodson had an elite career and successfully went from cornerback to safety and excelled at both. Rolle also made a very successful transition from corner to safety and understands what it takes. Here are some excerpts from the interview: Rolle comparing Ramsey to Woodson 'Jalen is a unique talent. I've always felt like he could be your Swiss army knife type of guy. You can play him in the slot, you can play him at corner, play him at safety, in dime. And he's aggressive enough that he can get all those jobs done extremely well. He reminds me of Charles Woodson, with the body stature, the coverage ability, and they're not afraid to go in there and get their hands dirty. Most importantly, he has that competitive dog in him. Corner is a different type of dog, safety is a different type of dog. 'To be a hybrid player, it takes a different mental capacity, as far as understanding the playbook, understanding what the front is doing, what the linebackers are doing, et cetera. That's the part people don't understand – when you move from that island to the box, or back at safety, you have to be aware of what everyone on that defense is doing.' Rolle on his advice to Ramsey 'The first piece of advice is to always work the craft that you had before. Still work on that corner craft, because it's going to make you that much better as a player, that much more versatile. When I made the transition to safety, yeah, I grew a different mentality, but in my heart I stayed a corner. If I stayed a corner, when I was lined up on the Wes Welkers, the Calvin Johnsons, my mentality never switched. I was just a more physical corner now.' Rolle on Ramsey being more involved defensively at safety 'Now you have to know, if that three-technique is stunting to the 'B' or the 'A' gap, this hole may open up. If they pull, you've got to cancel out a gap. That's a totally different vocabulary than what we learned out there on the island. It's very basic. There's not too much you need to know out there on an island. But once you come into that core, you have to know what you're doing.'
