Ronnie Platt Undergoes Surgery for Thyroid Cancer: ‘Couldn't Have Gone Any Better'
Ronnie Platt is on the road to recovery after undergoing surgery to treat his thyroid cancer. The Kansas frontman revealed Friday (March 7) that he is currently back home after an operation that went smoothly, writing in a post on Facebook, 'The Doctor said my surgery couldn't have gone any better!!!' 'I felt the power of everyone's prayers and positive energy!' he continued in the message. 'You all have helped me thru this, how do I? or can I? ever thank all of you for that!!!???? Day 1 of recovery here I am!!!' 'I take a lot of pride in that!!!!' The musician's update comes about three weeks after he first revealed that he'd been diagnosed with thyroid cancer. 'Before everyone gets all excited, it has a 99% survival rate, it has not spread,' Platt wrote on Facebook at the time. 'It's contained to my thyroid. I just have to have my thyroid removed. Go through some rehab time and be right back in the saddle.' He added, 'As it has been put to me, this is just a bump in the road and will be behind me very soon! So everyone please CARRY ON!' Platt took over as the lead singer of Kansas back in 2014, replacing former frontman Steve Walsh. He's since carried vocals on the band's most recent albums: 2016's The Prelude Implicit and 2020's The Absence of Presence, both of which entered the Top Rock Albums chart. The singer also recently celebrated his 65th birthday, an occasion he marked with an introspective Facebook post on Feb. 25. 'As I sit here and try to think of something eloquent to write, It's just simply impossible to convey in any words my thanks to everyone that not only reached out for my birthday but also have sent me well wishes and positive energy and prayers helping me on my path of recovery,' he wrote. 'People I have never met, going above and beyond the call of duty to help me thru this with lightning speed! How are these people even able to walk with hearts so big???' he added. 'Thank you for all the nice words and encouragement! I have plans on being back with my KANSAS family (YES FANS ARE FAMILY TOO!!!) very soon!!!' Kansas singer Ronnie Platt in high spirits after successful surgery to treat thyroid cancer

Platt, 63, reveals in a statement posted on Facebook that his doctors report the surgery went very well and he says he's resting up and looking forward to getting back to work. He says: "I am home! The doctor said my surgery couldn't have gone any better. "I felt the power of everyone's prayers and positive energy. You all have helped me. How do I, or can I, ever thank all of you for that? "Day one of recovery here I am. "I am looking forward to getting back to what I do best. Yes, singing, but my true job is entertaining you all and helping you at least for a couple hours forget about your problems and recharge your batteries. "I take a lot of pride in that. Thank you all again, carry on!" Kansas recently cancelled a number of live shows in the wake of Platt's diagnosis. They still have a raft of shows scheduled through 2025, with the next performance due to take place in early April. The full schedule can be seen below. Last year, drummer Phil Ehart stepped away from live performance with Kansas as he recovered from a major heart attack. His seat was temporarily filled by drum tech Eric Holmquist. TOPEKA (KSNT) – One of the members of the rock band KANSAS delivered a health update Wednesday following his cancer diagnosis last month. Ronnie Platt, lead vocalist for the rock band KANSAS, announced on social media on March 4 that he recently underwent surgery to treat his thyroid cancer. He thanked his fans, saying he is looking forward to returning to the stage. 'The Doctor said my surgery couldn't have gone any better!!! I felt the power of everyone's prayers and positive energy!' ‘This is just a bump in the road': KANSAS band member Ronnie Platt reveals cancer diagnosis
TOPEKA (KSNT) – A member of the rock band KANSAS is opening up publicly about his recent cancer diagnosis. KANSAS announced on social media on Thursday, Feb. 20 that Ronnie Platt, who plays the keyboard and acts as a vocalist in the band, has thyroid cancer. Platt issued a statement on the situation through the band's Facebook account, thanking fans for support they've given him so far. 'I met with my doctor today and found out I have surgery scheduled for March 4. So far, the prognosis has been very good. I'm looking forward to getting this behind me and being back in the saddle as soon as possible. I appreciate the outpouring of support I've been receiving. Thank you.' Opening date released for new Topeka HomeGoods KANSAS recently canceled two shows it had scheduled in Louisiana on Friday, Feb. 21 and Saturday, March 1 because of a 'band illness and doctor advisement.' People were told they would receive ticket refunds in light of the cancelations. Platt earlier posted a message on Saturday, Feb. 15 through his personal Facebook account about his recent diagnosis. He reassured fans that he expects to be performing again soon once he successfully goes through treatment. 'For all of you asking, Tuesday I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer but before everyone gets all excited, it has a 99% survival rate, it has not spread,' Platt said. 'It's contained to my thyroid. The announcement came after the group last week rescheduled a pair of shows "due to band illness and doctor advisement." A concert that was set for Feb. 14 in Catoosa, Oklahoma, was moved to Nov. 21, while a Feb. 15 show in Durant, Oklahoma, was postponed to Nov. 22. "The band apologizes for the inconvenience and hopes to be back on the road soon," the announcement on Kansas' Instagram page read. After Platt shared news of his diagnosis, the rock band said Tuesday that it would also cancel its March 1 show in Lake Charles, Louisiana, again citing an illness in the group. A show scheduled for Feb. 21 in New Orleans has also been canceled. "Our goal is to be back on the road as soon as possible," assistant band manager J.R. Rees told Ultimate Classic Rock. "Right now, we're all focused on supporting Ronnie through this."
