Six-year-old launches ‘tree school nursery' on World Environment Day

As part of the World Environment Day celebrations, Roohi Mohazzan, a six-year-old environmental activist, launched the 'Tree School Nursery,' an eco-friendly initiative at the Government Vocational Higher Secondary School for Girls, Nadakkavu, in Kozhikode on Thursday (June 5). Roohi, accompanied by lyricist Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri, inaugurated the project by planting tree saplings on the campus. This ambitious endeavour has been aimed at empowering students to plant one crore trees across the country. Faizal and Shabana Foundation, a philanthropic organisation known for transforming the Nadakkavu school into a model for government schools throughout the State, is supporting the initiative. A press release said that Roohi had previously participated in tree-planting drives to combat landslides in Wayanad and had petitioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi to advocate for printing passports on recycled paper. Her handwritten petitions to lawmakers underscore her belief that this simple change can raise public awareness about deforestation. The daughter of Abdul Gani and Aneesa Muhammed, residents of Parambil Bazaar, Roohi was instilled with a passion for environmental conservation from a young age. Her parents' practice of buying notebooks made from recycled newspapers deeply inspired her to take her own proactive steps as an eco-warrior. Government Vocational Higher Secondary School for Girls, Nadakkavu, Principal Gireesh Kumar and headmaster Premachandran participated in the inaugural function.

Before Bhediya 2, Varun Dhawan And Dinesh Vijan May Join Forces For Standalone Mytho-Horror

Last Updated: Varun Dhawan and Dinesh Vijan are reportedly collaborating on a new mytho-horror film with comedic elements before they begin work on Bhediya 2. Varun Dhawan and producer Dinesh Vijan are reportedly all set to reunite for an exciting new film—and it's not Bhediya 2. While the actor and producer have shared a successful track record with projects like Badlapur and Bhediya, their latest collaboration might be something completely fresh and unexpected. According to industry insiders, close to the entertainment portal PinkVilla, Varun is in advanced talks with Vijan's Maddock Films for a standalone mytho-horror comedy—a genre-blending entertainer laced with supernatural elements, rooted mythology, and generous doses of humour. 'Varun and Dinesh are definitely reuniting for Bhediya 2, but that film has seen a shift in its shooting schedule. In the meantime, they're seriously exploring another unique concept—a mytho-horror film with comedic undertones," reveals a source close to the development. Interestingly, the duo is also eyeing two more scripts, but this particular horror-comedy is currently leading the pack. 'This project won't be part of Maddock's existing horror comedy universe. It's not connected to Stree, Roohi, or Bhediya. It's an entirely new, standalone story," the source clarifies, adding that while discussions are ongoing, an official announcement might come by July. Casting for the female lead is still underway. Varun Dhawan, meanwhile, is juggling a packed schedule. He's currently shooting for Hai Jawaani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, directed by his father David Dhawan, followed by pending portions of Border 2, where he stars alongside Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. He is also part of Anees Bazmee's No Entry 2, adding another comedy to his growing lineup. As a bonus treat for fans, Varun will make a special appearance as Bhediya in Maddock's upcoming horror-comedy Thama, which is slated for a Diwali 2025 release. Whether it's mythological scares or monster mayhem, Varun and Vijan's partnership continues to promise genre-bending fun with a commercial punch. First Published: May 24, 2025, 21:53 IST

Exclusive: Blooming Health raises $26M for social services access

Blooming Health, a social services and health care coordination network, raised a $26 million Series A led by Insight Partners, CEO Nima Roohi tells Axios exclusively. Why it matters: The company is on track to become cash-flow positive by the first half of 2026, Roohi says. Insiders Afore Capital, Crossbeam Venture Partners, and Metrodora Ventures joined the Series A round. Follow the money: Blooming generates north of $10 million in revenue, with 95% of it coming from local governments and health systems, per Roohi. How it works: New York City-based Blooming helps community-based aging care providers engage with older adults and caregiver clients remotely. With a network of 1,000-plus community organizations, government agencies and providers, Blooming aims to help case managers and social service agencies coordinate care and referrals. Its service is designed for seniors, people needing to coordinate child care, veterans, Medicaid patients and other vulnerable populations. Since raising a $4.2 million seed round in 2023, the company has expanded services to 22 states. What's next:"We're going to expand to a few more states where there is a huge demand for social care," Roohi says, indicating the focus will be on the Midwest.
