Before Bhediya 2, Varun Dhawan And Dinesh Vijan May Join Forces For Standalone Mytho-Horror

Varun Dhawan and Dinesh Vijan are reportedly collaborating on a new mytho-horror film with comedic elements before they begin work on Bhediya 2.
Varun Dhawan and producer Dinesh Vijan are reportedly all set to reunite for an exciting new film—and it's not Bhediya 2. While the actor and producer have shared a successful track record with projects like Badlapur and Bhediya, their latest collaboration might be something completely fresh and unexpected.
According to industry insiders, close to the entertainment portal PinkVilla, Varun is in advanced talks with Vijan's Maddock Films for a standalone mytho-horror comedy—a genre-blending entertainer laced with supernatural elements, rooted mythology, and generous doses of humour. 'Varun and Dinesh are definitely reuniting for Bhediya 2, but that film has seen a shift in its shooting schedule. In the meantime, they're seriously exploring another unique concept—a mytho-horror film with comedic undertones," reveals a source close to the development.
Interestingly, the duo is also eyeing two more scripts, but this particular horror-comedy is currently leading the pack. 'This project won't be part of Maddock's existing horror comedy universe. It's not connected to Stree, Roohi, or Bhediya. It's an entirely new, standalone story," the source clarifies, adding that while discussions are ongoing, an official announcement might come by July. Casting for the female lead is still underway.
Varun Dhawan, meanwhile, is juggling a packed schedule. He's currently shooting for Hai Jawaani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, directed by his father David Dhawan, followed by pending portions of Border 2, where he stars alongside Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. He is also part of Anees Bazmee's No Entry 2, adding another comedy to his growing lineup.
As a bonus treat for fans, Varun will make a special appearance as Bhediya in Maddock's upcoming horror-comedy Thama, which is slated for a Diwali 2025 release.
Whether it's mythological scares or monster mayhem, Varun and Vijan's partnership continues to promise genre-bending fun with a commercial punch.

Unlike other industries where certain stars can almost guarantee a specific opening or lifetime collection, Kerala's moviegoers are unpredictable. The only exception seems to be Mohanlal (based on his current form), whose films consistently draw massive crowds, regardless of the genre or scale. For others, including Tovino, it's a game of content and timing. The coming weeks will be crucial for Narivetta. New films like Thug Life and Housefull 5 hitting theaters could eat into its screen count and subsequently the audience share. The film's strong hold particularly in Kerala gives it a fighting chance to reach the Rs 25 crore milestone globally. Kamal Haasan's much-awaited action-drama Thug Life is all set to hit theaters tomorrow. The film, directed by Mani Ratnam, is expected to rake in around Rs 20 crore on its opening day in India, based on the advance bookings. This figure would make Thug Life Kamal Haasan 's third-biggest opener, trailing behind his 2022 blockbuster Vikram and the 2024 release Indian 2. While Vikram stormed the box office with a massive Rs 33 crore opening, Indian 2 followed with a reasonable Rs 30 crore start. Thug Life's projected Rs 20 crore opening is respectable but reflects a more grounded start compared to its predecessors. The opening day performance of Thug Life is expected to be driven primarily by Tamil Nadu, where Kamal Haasan enjoys a loyal fanbase. The collections outside Tamil Nadu, however, are predicted to be on the lower side given the film's scale and reach. Adding to this, Thug Life will not release in Karnataka, which is a setback for its overall India gross.
