Canal-based water supply project reviewed
Ludhiana: On a three-day visit to the city, a team of experts from the
World Bank
(WB) and
Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank
(AIIB) reviewed the progress of the WB and AIIB-funded
canal-based water supply project
in the city. Apart from conducting review meetings with officials of the civic body and water utility company, the delegation also visited the site of a world-class
water treatment plant
(WTP) in Bilga village. Task team leader (WB) Rosanna Nitti and task team leader (AIIB) Ankur Aggarwal led the delegation, while BKD Raja (safeguards), environment specialist Charu Jain, environment associate Eya Cruz, and consultant Navika Chaudhary, among others, were part of the team.
MC joint commissioner Ankur Mahindroo, chief engineer Ravinder Garg, and superintending engineer (projects) Parul Goyal, among other officials of the civic body, accompanied the team.
The team of experts also inspected a number of sites where overhead water reservoirs are being constructed under the project and deliberated upon the environmental impact, safety, and welfare of labourers and residents.
MC commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal said that necessary directions had been issued to the contractor to expedite the work so that the project could be completed on time. The WB and AIIB team expressed satisfaction over the progress of the project.
