Rosario Dawson Shares Behind-the-Scenes Bruises as Ahsoka Season 2 Begins Filming: 'Week 1 Won! Not A Weak One'

The galaxy far, far away is once more in motion. Rosario Dawson, star of Ahsoka, has confirmed via Instagram that Season 2 production has officially commenced. The actress shared a dramatic behind-the-scenes photo, displaying the bruising she has already gained through the first week of filming, captioning the photo with the cheeky title: 'Week 1 Won! Not A Weak One.' For Star Wars fans, it is the keenly awaited confirmation that the escapade of Ahsoka Tano is some way from coming to an end and maybe even more dramatic than ever. With lightsabers flashing, the Force awry, and storylines crossing galaxies and generations, Ahsoka Season 2 is already well under way toward becoming a legendary extension of one of the most compelling modern stories in Star Wars history. Read below for an in-depth analysis of all we currently know about the upcoming season, from cast news and plot rumors to mysterious Force gods and spectacular concept art. Rosario Dawson's Instagram post confirms that Season 2 is underway, but the accompanying photo says it all. Bruised from head to toe, Dawson demonstrates the physical toll that one week of filming has already taken on her. Her caption, 'Week 1 Won! Not A Weak One,' says a lot about her sense of humor and warrior-like attitude, a fitting mirror to her on-screen character, Ahsoka Tano. This season preview suggests that season two will be even more action-packed and emotionally driven than season one, solidifying Ahsoka's role as one of the Star Wars franchise's strongest and physically demanding characters. While no official release date has been given, filming is currently underway. According to current production schedules and Lucasfilm's typical post-production timeline, the soonest fans will be able to anticipate new shows is sometime in 2026. The first real update on Season 2 came at Star Wars Celebration 2025, where special guests were shown a teaser made up of concept art and an old-fashioned voiceover, a nod to how The Empire Strikes Back was teased back in the day before cameras started rolling. Not yet out to the public, that preview confirmed the scale and ambition of what is to come. Dave Filoni, once again serving as the sole writer for Season 2, is notorious for his in-depth explorations of Star Wars mythology. Season 2 is ready to delve even further into the mystical and philosophical elements of the Force. Early concept art teased by Filoni in 2024 includes Ahsoka, Sabine, and Baylan Skoll standing on the Father, one of the Mortis gods originally introduced during The Clone Wars. These Force gods represent the balance between light and darkness, and their presence in the artwork is a very strong indication of having a big metaphysical plot arc. Filoni also hinted that the World Between Worlds might once more come into play, and it left open questions regarding time manipulation, alternate realities, and the full extent of Force-sensitive characters like Ahsoka; as Filoni explained, 'The Son's there, the Father's there, most of the Daughter's there. So yeah, we'll figure it out. It's a good story.' Season 2 sees the return of previous cast members along with new and important additions to the main cast. The original list includes: Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker Rory McCann as Baylan Skoll Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati Following Ray Stevenson's tragic death in 2023, Game of Thrones actor Rory McCann steps in as Baylan Skoll. Filoni's decision to recast the character signals that Baylan's narrative arc remains central to the season's themes. Hayden Christensen's comeback as Anakin Skywalker in a confirmed role promises further exploration of Ahsoka's past and her ongoing connection to her old master. Whether he appears as a Force ghost, in flashbacks, or through visions is unknown, but his return assures emotional resonance. Also announced is the return of Admiral Ackbar, who will be battling it out with Grand Admiral Thrawn in what Filoni describes as a 'naval showdown of tactical brilliance.' Rebels fans will also be thrilled to hear that Garazeb 'Zeb' Orrelios will be appearing, though details of his role remain under wraps. Season 1's finale set the stage for an entirely new galaxy. With Ahsoka and Sabine stranded in Peridea, the distant galaxy, and Thrawn and Ezra returning to the familiar galaxy of Star Wars, Season 2 is going to operate on a never-before-seen intergalactic scale. The teaser for Star Wars Celebration 2025 included Ahsoka and Sabine battling giant evil droids, Ezra in a pilot suit, and visually stunning set pieces on untold worlds. This two-galaxy narrative accommodates thematic exploration of disconnection, return, destiny, and sacrifice on an intergalactic scale. A canvas so grand also leaves room for exploring new Force traditions, old civilizations, or dark powers as yet unknown within Star Wars canon. Season 2 is not yet underway, officially at least, and will most probably not change in format from Season 1's eight episodes, just like other Disney Plus Star Wars shows such as The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. This eight-episode structure suits rich, serialized storytelling with little room for big spectacle and quiet character moments. The series will launch exclusively on Disney Plus, capitalizing on the brand's position as the one-stop shop for all Star Wars content. Physically, media-preferential fans will be pleased to learn that Season 1 receives a disc release, generating hype for Season 2 to follow suit. With cameras rolling and Rosario Dawson already wearing the battle scars of her commitment to the character, Ahsoka Season 2 is turning out to be one of the most ambitious Star Wars tales ever told live-action. Filoni is spinning a multigenerational, galaxy-spanning, Force-realm tale. Whether delving into the legend of the Mortis gods, revisiting emotional connections between master and apprentice, or going up against Imperial genius, this season is set to take Ahsoka's legend to unprecedented heights. The fans will have to wait a bit longer, but the Force is certainly with this series. Buckle up for a ride that will redefine what we know about Ahsoka and what we believe about the fabric of the Star Wars universe. Some Disappointing News About ‘Ahsoka' Season 2's Release Date

Ahsoka Disney's Star Wars plans are all over the place, even as a recent event laid out a number of upcoming movies as the series will head back to theaters. It's sort of a 'we've heard this before' situation with so many cancelled projects, and the only one that is actually, literally coming out is The Mandalorian and Grogu, which has finished filming. But then there's TV, and there's some news about The Mandalorian spin-off Ahsoka (kidding kidding Clone Wars fans). The series performed solidly enough relying on well-established Clone Wars and Rebels characters, and a season 2 was greenlit. The bad news? Season 2 of Ahsoka has only just started filming now, delayed in part because of the development of The Mandalorian and Grogu, it seems. The announcement was just made as Rosario Dawson showed a shadowed picture of herself in costume. The timeline here is…frustrating, and at the worst end of the streaming era gaps. Ahsoka season 1 aired in August of 2023, almost two years ago now. If filming is only just beginning now, from that to post-production to release is likely to be over a year. Season 1 of Ahsoka started filming in May of 2022, so that's 15 months until season 1 came out. 15 months from now would be August of 2026 and yes, that would mean it's exactly three years between seasons, even longer than what we just saw with Andor, released in September of 2022. There seem to be a number of complicating factors here, including Dave Filoni doing some amount of work on Mandalorian and Grogu, plus the idea that the movie takes place story-wise before Ahsoka season 2 (it's not confirmed she or other characters from the show will appear in the film yet). The film will be (allegedly) released in May of 2026, so then ~3 months later, we'll see Ahsoka season 2. The show also had to recast Baylan Skoll, played by Ray Stevenson before his tragic death in 2023 (before filming). The character will now be play4ed by Stevenson's friend and Game of Thrones veteran Rory McCann. The rest of the cast will return, including new fan-favorite and Skoll apprentice, Shin Hati, played by Ivanna Sakhno. There are also reports that Hayden Christensen may appear as Anakin in another cameo in season 2. It's a frustrating situation, but Disney Star Wars is often a series of frustrating situations, being handled poorly over the years compared to Marvel properties with disjointed films, axed or overly expensive shows and other issues. Ahsoka may actually be the only show confirmed to even be coming back for another season at this point. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors Rosario Dawson is keeping fans in mystery, but thankfully not too much mystery. The actress let "Star Wars" nerds everywhere know that filming on "Ahsoka" Season 2 has commenced by posting a picture of a very distinct shadow outline to Instagram, which you can see below. Rosario Dawson as the titular hero of "Ahsoka". Rosario Dawson as the titular hero of "Ahsoka". Lucasfilm/Disney Rosario Dawson first wielded the white lightsabers of Ahsoka Tano in Season 2 of "The Mandalorian" and later in "The Book of Boba Fett". Her own series launched in August 2023, and story-wise wise it acted largely as a continuation of the animated series "Star Wars Rebels", with both good and evil characters returning from the earlier show. "Ahsoka" also saw the return of Hayden Christensen to the role of Anakin Skywalker. Anakin's force ghost teaches his old padawan a lesson in the World Between Worlds. Season One ended with Ahsoka and Sabine Wren finding the lost Ezra Bridger on the other side of the galaxy, only for Ezra and Admiral Thrawn to return to more familiar space while Ahsoka and Sabine remain lost with no hope of returning home. "Ahsoka" Season 2 doesn't have a release date yet, but it is expected to premiere sometime in 2026. Also expected to release in 2026 is the film "The Mandalorian & Grogu," which will see the return of Din Djarin and his adoptive son since "The Mandalorian" Season 3. A sizzle reel highlighted some great moments from the film at Star Wars Celebration 2025, including Din Djarin taking out snowtroopers in the belly of an AT-AT. "The Mandalorian & Grogu hits theaters May 22, 2026. And "The Mandalorian & Grogu" wasn't the only big upcoming "Star Wars" project that enjoyed a preview at Star Wars Celebration 2025. Shawn Levy's Ryan Gosling-starring film name was revealed: "Star Wars: Starfighter". But just as Ahsoka Tano started out in an animated world, another animated project was announced at Star Wars Celebration 2025. "Maul: Shadow Lord," an animated miniseries, was announced. The series will see Sam Witwer return once again to voice Darth Maul. And for folks who don't feel like waiting for their "Star Wars" fix, the premiere of the second and final season of "Andor" is streaming on Disney+.
