Foreigners who tried to bribe cops had overstayed, held expired documents

TUMPAT: Two foreigners who attempted to bribe a police officer with RM220 were found to have overstayed their visas and lacked valid travel documents. "Both men, aged between 20 and 30, tried to flee when approached but were caught shortly after," he said in a statement today. During the inspection, one of the suspects allegedly offered cash to the officers. "Despite being warned three times that bribing a public servant is an offence, the suspect handed over RM220 in cash," he said. Checks revealed one suspect had overstayed his visa, while the other had an expired passport. Police also seized UNHCR documents believed to be dubious. The case has been referred to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Kota Baru for further action. Earlier, Kelantan MACC director Rosli Husain confirmed the duo were arrested at the MACC state headquarters at 1.30am.
