All-Ireland winning coach's 'root and branch' Wexford hurling review role
Wexford GAA are working on a new Stratetic Plan with Limerick's multiple All-Ireland winning coach, Paul Kinnerk and Michael McGeehan involved as consultants. Kinnerk, who also coached Clare to the 2013 All-Ireland, is renowned as an innovative thinker and strategic planner. The former Limerick footballer has helped John Kiely's Treaty side to five All-Ireland titles and six Munster crowns over the past nine seasons. Wexford GAA's latest move comes after some disappointing seasons on the hurling front recently. They were almost relegated to the McDonagh Cup (2023), having to beat Kilkenny in the final round to stay up. And this year, after a spate of off season retirements by high profile players they struggled to mount a challenge to get out of Leinster. County legend Larry O'Gorman suggested just this week that they could lose to Kildare in next year's Leinster Championship and face relegation to the McDonagh Cup. Wexford have attempted major initiatives before to bolster hurling in the county, including 'Hurling 365,' co-founded by the legendary Liam Griffin back in 2013 They had considerable success at under-21 level, winning a Leinster three-in-a-row (2013-15) under JJ Doyle but they haven't won it since, losing four finals in the intervening decade. And while Wexford did land a Leinster senior title under Davy Fitzgerald in 2019 - a first in 15 years - they have struggled to build on that. The other consultant on the new project is Donegal man Michael McGeehan, who has widespread experience coaching GAA at inter-county and club level, and also soccer. McGeehan has a considerable consultancy background and helped with the appointment of the Kildare senior football manager back in 2021 when Glenn Ryan landed the role. A Wexford County Board press release confirmed that the Strategic Plan will include 'a root and branch review of Wexford hurling, to begin in September.' It added: 'There are to be several stakeholder workshops, including two for clubs, and details will be announced in due course.' Meanwhile, Wexford GAA have confirmed that senior hurling and football managers Keith Rossiter and John Hegarty will be put forward for ratification for the 2026 season. Rossiter and Hegarty's names will go before a full County Board meeting for ratification. Hegarty guided Wexford to promotion to Division 3 this year, in his third season in charge. Rossiter has served two years in charge with last year ending in disappointing fashion with Wexford knocked out of the Leinster Championship. Leinster Championship winner Rossiter was hit with a spate or retirements at the end of last season, including key men like Matthew O'Hanlon, Diarmuid O'Keeffe and Liam Og McGovern. Wexford under-20 hurling manager Ronan Joyce is also set to continue in his post and the same goes for under-20 football boss, Dylan Gregan.

Rossiter and Hegarty to remain in charge of Wexford hurlers and footballers
KEITH ROSSITER will return as Wexford senior hurling manager at the next county board meeting. The Oulart-the-Ballagh clubman will be afforded a third season in charge, but has yet to name his management team. While Rossiter had an impressive start during his first year, his second in charge ended in bitter disappointment as the team nosedived both in league and championship. Wexford were relegated from Division 1A of the Allianz National Hurling League, but their championship exploits were even more disappointing, with the side failing to qualify for the provincial final, while also missing out on the All-Ireland series. Rossiter will no doubt be tasked with returning the side to Division 1A hurling, but it's not yet known if any further players will follow Matthew O'Hanlon, Dee O'Keeffe and Liam Óg McGovern into retirement. A boost for Rossiter is that the injury-hit Liam Ryan has returned to club hurling, figuring prominently with Rapparees in the senior hurling championship, having missed this year's inter-county campaign through injury and health reasons, while also missing out on much of the 2024 campaign. Meanwhile, John Hegarty is returning for a fourth year in charge of the county's senior footballers. Wexford achieved their long-sought-after promotion to Division 3 of the Allianz League, with the Kilanerin clubman hoping to build on that progress and improve their championship showing. Both managers' nominations were approved at Monday night's meeting of the county management committee and will be brought before the county board for ratification. Ronan Joyce (Shelmaliers) and Dylan Gregan (Castletown) have both been returned as Under-20 hurling and U20 football managers.

Forgotten ex-Rangers player seals move to overseas club
Jordan Rossiter was one of Steven Gerrard's first signings back in the summer of 2018, when he took over as manager of Rangers. He was one of a handful of signings from Liverpool as Gerrard tapped into his knowledge of the Premier League side's academy. However, things didn't work out in Glasgow quite like Rossiter hoped they would. The midfielder was plagued by injuries throughout his time as a Rangers player, which lasted until 2020 when he moved to Fleetwood Town. Rossiter made just 16 appearances for the Ibrox club, scoring once. Now, he has a new club following the expiry of his contract at Shrewsbury Town, having spent the second half of last season on loan at Oldham. He has moved to the League of Ireland to join Waterford. The 28-year-old commented: "I spoke to a few people here before I signed, so I knew it was a really exciting project here. I watched Friday's 2-0 win in the derby against Cork so I can't wait to get going now. 'I'm looking forward to working with John & Danny. I've obviously played against John's sides a few times when I was at Fleetwood & he was at Accrington Stanley. Read more: "I know what his teams are about – always going to be competitive & I'm looking forward to playing for him. 'I can bring a good bit of experience to the group. I just love playing football wherever that is, so whether that's Liverpool, Rangers or Waterford, I just want to enjoy my football, so I'm looking forward to getting out there on the RSC pitch.'

Ex-Liverpool and Rangers midfielder Jordan Rossiter joins Waterford
Former Liverpool and Rangers midfielder Jordan Rossiter has joined League of Ireland side Waterford. Rossiter was hailed as the heir to Steven Gerrard's throne when he made his Reds debut at 17 but has been without a club since being released by Shrewsbury Town in May. Now 28-year-old, he links up with fellow Liverpudlians John Coleman and Danny Ventre at the RSC. The duo were appointed by the club's Fleetwood Group owners to manage the team in May after a run of six successive defeats cost Keith Long his job. Waterford's 2-0 win over Cork City last Friday lifted the Blues up to seventh in the table above Galway United. A debut could be afforded to the new capture in Friday's FAI Cup tie against non-league St Mochta's. Rossiter joined his hometown club Liverpool at just six years of age, spending over 13 years at the Reds before moving on. Jordan Rossiter's first words as a Blue 👇#WaterfordFC — Waterford FC (@WaterfordFCie) July 14, 2025 During his time at Anfield, Rossiter was first named on the Liverpool bench in their 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League at the end of 2013. In September 2014, Rossiter made his first-team debut in Liverpool's League Cup match against Middlesbrough at Anfield age just 17, where he opened the scoring on his debut after just ten minutes – latching onto Rickie Lambert's through ball before finding the back of the net. In August of the 2015/16 season, Rossiter made his Premier League debut, coming on for then Brendan Rodgers' Reds away to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in a 0-0 draw. The following month, Rossiter made his European debut for Liverpool against French side Bordeaux as he played 80 minutes in their 1-1 draw in the French city in their Europa League group stage clash. He made another European group stage appearance against Sion in that 2015/16 injury hit season, before departing his hometown club to sign for Rangers FC in the Scottish Premiership for the 2016/17 season. Rossiter made 16 appearances for Rangers over the course of his three-year spell with the Scottish giants, before first Bury Town on loan & then Fleetwood Town secured his services. His move to Fleetwood was made permanent for the 2020/21 season, being made Fleetwood captain in 2021 for the Cod Army. He joined Bristol Rovers in 2022, before having spells at Shrewsbury Town & Oldham Athletic most recently. Rossiter said: 'It was a phone call with John Coleman & Danny Ventre. I know them both quite well, and just the way the club is going. "I spoke to a few people here before I signed, so I knew it was a really exciting project here. I watched Friday's 2-0 win in the Derby against Cork so I can't wait to get going now. 'I'm looking forward to working with John & Danny.
