€325,000 worth of drugs, alcohol, counterfeit goods seized by Revenue

Drugs, alcohol and counterfeit goods worth over €325,000 have been seized by Revenue officers in the past week. They were recovered during operations in Dublin, the Midlands, Dublin Airport and Rosslare Europort. Among the items seized was 7.5kg of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €148,900 and 1,100 LSD tablets with an estimated value of €11,000, along with a number of other illicit drugs. Over 349 litres of alcohol and tobacco products were also recovered, as well as an airsoft gun and 466 counterfeit items worth over €138,000. The herbal cannabis and illicit drugs were found in parcels that had originated from the USA, Thailand, Canada, Netherlands, and the UK.

Wexford People The management of Rosslare Europort have revealed that they are currently preparing a massive planning application that will effectively see the port double in size and create over 2,000 jobs in the provision of Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE). The project comes with a price tag in excess of €200 million, which comes in addition to the ongoing transformational €170 million development of some 29 buildings over 55 acres to provide permanent, modern customs infrastructure. Truck driver (23) charged with smuggling two men through Rosslare port

A 23-year-old Romanian truck driver has been remanded in custody charged with smuggling two men through Rosslare Europort. Roberto Nickitean, described as a Romanian national, appeared before Judge John O'Leary at a special sitting of Wexford District Court on Saturday evening. Det Garda Stephen Burke, of Wexford Garda station, said he charged the accused. It is alleged Mr Nickitean intentionally assisted entry into, transit across or presence in the State at Rosslare Europort on May 30th. The charge alleges a breach of section 5 of the Immigration Act 2004 and contravention of section 6(1) of the Criminal Justice (Smuggling of Persons) Act 2021. Det Garda Burke told the court the accused made no reply when the charge was put to him. READ MORE Defence counsel Ross Pratt-O'Brien, instructed by solicitor Maria Murphy, made no application for bail on Saturday. Such an application would be made next Tuesday, he said. Judge O'Leary remanded the accused in custody to appear before Wexford District Court at 10.30am on Tuesday for a bail application. The accused was granted free legal aid and an interpreter. The truck driver was arrested in Wexford after gardaí and customs officials found two men hiding in a truck at Rosslare Europort on Friday morning. The discovery was made during an immigration check. The two men were assessed by medical staff.

People smuggling investigation under way after two men discovered in truck at Rosslare Europort

A truck driver was arrested at Rosslare Europort early on Friday morning after two people were discovered hiding in his vehicle as he attempted to enter the country. Gardaí in the Wexford/Wicklow Division have launched a people smuggling investigation following the discovery of the two men, who are currently being assessed by medical personnel. They were found in the truck during a customs check that was being conducted by gardaí along with officials from Customs and Revenue. The driver, man in his 20s, was arrested for an alleged offence under the Section 6 of the Criminal Justice (Smuggling of Persons) Act, 2021. READ MORE He is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in the area. Gardaí attached to Wexford Garda Station, supported by the Garda National Immigration Bureau, are investigating all of the circumstances of this incident. Two men have been found hiding in a truck at Rosslare Europort in Co Wexford. The pair were discovered in the lorry shortly after 8am on Friday. Advertisement Gardaí and customs officials found the men during an immigration check. They are now being assessed by medical personnel, gardaí said. The driver of the lorry, a man in his 20s, has been arrested and is being held at a Garda station in the Wexford/Wicklow area.
