Yorkshire railway posters reimagined for 200th anniversary
Young artists have created a series of travel posters in the style of historic railway adverts, inspired by Yorkshire from Rotherham College, East Riding College, New College Pontefract, and Keighley College have created posters for their local stations, which will be seen by thousands of of the young artists from Rotherham unveiled their artworks during a ceremony on Thursday at Rotherham Central Lyon, curriculum team leader at Rotherham College, said working on the posters had been "a valuable and positive experience for our students". He said: "Our train journey to the Yorkshire coast enabled students to take great photos to inspire their ideas. It also took their experience beyond the classroom, developing their independence and confidence in using the rail network."Mr Lyon said having the images on display had created a "great level of energy and excitement" and enabled them to show their students' talent and creativity. Railway adverts were first produced in the 1930s to encourage people to visit destinations across artworks have been unveiled as part of Railway 200 – the 200th anniversary of the birth of the modern railway – and the project was funded by rail company Peters, Northern regional director, said: "The posters these young artists have produced are brilliant and we would like to thank them for all their hard work."We asked them to come up with captivating designs – in the style of the iconic British Railways adverts – and they have surpassed our expectations."The students should be incredibly proud of this display, which advertises destinations that people can travel to by train in Yorkshire." Yorkshire students revive the classic railway poster
New art has gone on display at stations across Yorkshire to mark the 200th anniversary of the students were asked to put a fresh spin on iconic posters from the 1930s and 1940s. Eleven students from the college created the art to celebrate Beverley and promote destinations such as based their work on posters by the likes of Frank Henry Mason, who designed many advertisements promoting destinations such as East Coast seaside resorts during the first half of the 20th Century."The brief gave them the chance to comprehensively research the railways and Sheffield as a tourist destination," said Ms Haigh."Bringing in the historic designs of previous posters broadened the project out even more into the history of graphic design." New construction campus opens at Rotherham College
A new centre specialising in construction and engineering has opened at Rotherham College - bringing teaching together at the same site for the first two floors of space at the Clifton building on Eastwood Lane include practical learning areas as well as centre also has digital suites for computing, and its completion means all of the college's students will be taught at the same courses were previously based at the Rawmarsh Road site. Speaking about the new facilities, joinery student Harrison Woodcock said: "The machines and tools are a lot better, it makes it a lot easier to work."In the old workshop they were no good to use really, but this upgraded workshop is miles better, and makes it easier for everyone to learn."The college offers several T Level courses in heating engineering, plumbing and electrical new teaching areas also benefit students on computing, games design and animation courses. Games design lecturer Shane Whittington said the new technology helped his students test their work to a professional standard."Previously we didn't have that so we were not able to test in the way that we should have done."The centre also has changing areas and showers for students who dress in workwear for their practical college's director of campus, Keith Sanderson, added: "We want everyone to achieve the goals that they can achieve and they shouldn't really have any barriers to that."
