Steelers HC Mike Tomlin is unfireable no matter what in 2025
For many, many seasons, the Pittsburgh Steelers fanbase has been divided on head coach Mike Tomlin. Many fans consider him a future Hall of Famer and one of the elite coaches in the NFL. There is another significant portion of the fanbase who think Tomlin is what is keeping this season from winning a Super Bowl and always will be until he's fired.
The reality probably falls somewhere in between. Nevertheless, it doesn't matter what the fans think; it only matters what the Steelers ownership thinks of Tomlin and history says they are happy with him and the job he's doing in Pittsburgh.
This is a sentiment shared by Steelers beat writer Ray Fittipaldo. He appeared on the Rothman and Ice podcast and made it clear that Tomlin's job is absolutely safe at least through 2025.
"[Tomlin is] as safe as can be because he's in the first year of a three-year contract that is paying him $50 million," Fittipaldo said. "Unless something goes terribly wrong and they go 3 and 14, or something like that - which I don't totally expect - you're not going to hear anything about Mike Tomlin."
We have long said that Tomlin is unfireable and the Steelers will give him all the room he needs, no matter what the team's record. Tomlin has never had a season under .500 since taking over the head coaching job in Pittsburgh but even if the team were to backslide for a season or two, the Rooneys aren't going to just give up on him.
