Moushumi Chatterjee 'pities' Amitabh Bachchan, calls him a victim of his image: ‘He is always performing'
Moushumi Chatterjee, who has collaborated with Amitabh Bachchan in films like Manzil, Roti Kapda Aur Makaan and most recently Piku, opened up about her working experience with the Bollywood superstar. Moushumi, in a recent interview, gave her two cents on Amitabh's stardom and how he manages it. (Also read: Moushumi Chatterjee opens up on confronting Rajesh Khanna for his nasty comment on daughter: 'He thought it was fun') In an interview with Filmfare, Moushumi said, "Amitabh Bachchan is a very intelligent man. He always uses politically right words. I sometimes pity him because I think most of the time he is only performing because that is all that he knows. I might be wrong, but that's how I feel about him. It is because of his image. He has a huge image, which nobody else has managed to achieve.' Moushumi compared Amitabh with another Bollywood heavyweight, Rajesh Khanna and explained how both of them managed their stardom differently. Sharing the difference between the two superstars, Moushumi said, "Amitabh has managed to stay grounded despite immense success. Something that Rajesh Khanna failed at. He was blown up with his success. As the saying goes: 'Ek anpadh gunda aur ek padhe likhe gunde mein bahaut farq hota hai' (There is always a difference between a literate and illiterate goon). I have never seen Amitabh Bachchan with flatterers. However, Rajesh Khanna was always surrounded by these people. He needed that attention and pampering.' Moushumi recently returned to the big screen after a hiatus with the Bengali film Aarii. Written and directed by Jiit Chakraborty, the story explores the sacrifices and emotional bond between a widowed mother and her caregiver son. The film, which also stars Yash Dasgupta and Nusrat Jahan, was released in theatres on 25 April. Her last film with Big B, Piku, was also re-released in theatres on 9 May. On the other hand, Amitabh was last seen in the Tamil film Vettaiyan and the Telugu film Kalki 2898 AD. He has yet to shoot for the sequel to the sci-fi directed by Nag Ashwin, which will see him reprising his role of Ashwatthama.

How can I get wet when I'm going for a job interview and carrying a college degree? I have broken my no-intimacy rule only once in my life, and that was for Raj Kapoor. I kissed Simi Garewal in Mera Naam Joker. I couldn't say no to Raj sahab.'

When Moushumi Chatterjee was removed from Amitabh Bachchan's movie due to..., she was replaced by...
Veteran actress Moushumi Chatterjee is one of those who never shies away from speaking her mind. Her straightforward nature and short temper are well known to every actor of her time. In a recent interview, Moushumi opened up about an incident when her blunt speaking got her removed from a film which also featured Amitabh Bachchan. With honesty and grace, she accepted the reason why the incident happened and how she often chose dignity over drama. In the 1970s, Chatterjee and Bachchan made a famous on-screen pair. They worked in movies like Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, Benaam, and Mazil. However, in 1981, things took a turn during the making of Barsaat Ki Ek Raat. Chatterjee recalled and said, 'It was filmmaker Shakti Samanta's film Barsaat Ki Ek Raat. One day, Shakti uncle called me and asked, 'Did you have any fight with Amitabh Bachchan?' I told him, 'Uncle, I am not so close to anyone that they would fight with me. I am very cordial and nice and I get that feedback also.' He said, 'That is the problem. Most of the heroes say, 'Moushumi ko kyu liya uske sath humara tuning sahi nahi hai.' He then asked me, 'Do you understand what they mean by tuning?' I said, 'Maybe, now I understand. Maybe more than friendship. But I am not here to make friends. I am here to work.'' Even though she had already been signed for the film, Moushumi was chucked out and replaced by Rakhee Gulzar. She said, 'So Shakti uncle removed me from this film. I told him, 'I will return you the signing amount,' he said, 'No, keep it with you, I will make my next film with you.' So I did Anand Ashram. I understood that he couldn't spoil his relationship with the number one star.' After Barsaat Ki Ek Raat, Moushumi and Amitabh worked together in the film Piku.

Moushumi Chatterjee recalls being thrown out of Amitabh Bachchan film, says she's ‘a better person' than Jaya Bachchan
Moushumi Chatterjee and Amitabh Bachchan collaborated in three films in the 1970s–Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, Benaam, and Manzil. Eventually, Rakhee Gulzar was cast in the film, as the love interest of Amitabh's character. In a recent interview, Moushumi Chatterjee said that she was likely replaced because she wasn't the friendliest person around. Speaking with Nayandeep Rakshit, Moushumi shared, 'It was filmmaker Shakti Samanta's film Barsaat Ki Ek Raat. This one day, Shakti uncle called me and asked, 'Did you have any fight with Amitabh Bachchan?' I told him, 'Uncle, I am not so close to anyone that they would fight with me. Sharing her experience, the actor said, 'Amitabh Bachchan is really amazing. When I worked with him in Piku, he was so punctual. The younger generation needs to learn from him.' In the same interview, Moushumi also addressed the controversy that erupted when she snapped at the paparazzi for calling her Jaya Bachchan. She said, 'Don't call me Jaya Bachchan, I am a better person.' She clarified her statement in the interview and said, 'People fabricate it, but the reality is that I don't like they (paps) irritate you. They don't want to listen. Once you want to stay away from the limelight, you cannot force a person to like you. But, I don't like to compare. I consider I am a better person.' She admitted that there was a tense undercurrent between them in the 1970s. 'I had heard stories, and yes, there was a rivalry,' she said. 'But I came from a wealthy family, I didn't have to rely on films to make money. But some people live in small houses, and then they want a bigger house.'
