Lois Boisson breaks silence on Harriet Dart's bizarre ‘deodorant' remark as fans express outrage
Lois Boisson has spoken out over British tennis player Harriet Dart's controversial on-court remarks, which implied that the French tennis player 'needed deodorant.' The incident took place during a bizarre match that happened in April at the Rouen Open in France. Dart lost 6-0 in the first set and was halfway through the second set against the home favorite. During their encounter, the courtside microphones captured Dart's startling plea to the umpire, which she made instead of concentrating on her game: 'Tell her to wear deodorant,' because 'she's smelling really bad.' Dart, however, lost to the 22-year-old in straight sets. She then expressed apologies for the outburst, adding that the 'heat-of-the-moment' phrase was her fault. Boisson has mostly been silent about the situation in the weeks that have followed, only making light of it when the topic swiftly gained widespread attention on social media by requesting that cosmetics company Dove sponsor her. Meanwhile, social media commenters were swift to demand Dart's apology for the remarks; with one user calling her 'so disrespectful,' while others suggested that she should be 'suspended.' Boisson, however, revealed her genuine views about the match on Sunday as she prepared to make her debut in the French Open's fourth round. 'It was not difficult to deal with. It was okay. It was nothing for me. She maybe made a mistake, then I joked about it, that's it,' Boisson stated. Also Read: Is Imane Khelif a biological male? 'It was nothing,' she continued, insisting that the name-calling had no impact on her. Boisson will be hoping to keep the same composure when she takes on third-ranked seed Jessica Pegula on Monday at Roland-Garros' Court Philippe-Chatrier. The Frenchwoman, who received a wild card at her home tournament, had never advanced this far in a Grand Slam. Boisson was forced to miss last year's French Open due to an injury in her anterior cruciate ligament, but she returned to the tour in 2025.

Tennis player Harriet Dart apologizes for saying opponent should put on deodorant during match
British tennis player Harriet Dart has apologized after asking the chair umpire to tell her opponent to put on deodorant because she 'smells really bad.' Dart lost 6-0, 6-3 to French player Lois Boisson in the first round of the clay-court Rouen Open on Tuesday, and was picked up by a microphone during a changeover telling the umpire: 'Can you tell her (Boisson) to wear deodorant? … Because she smells really bad.' After the footage spread on social media, Dart posted an apology on Instagram and said 'it was a heat-of-the-moment comment that I truly regret.' 'That's not how I want to carry myself, and I take full responsibility,' she wrote. 'I have a lot of respect for Lois and how she competed today. I'll learn from this and move forward.' Boisson, who made her first WTA Tour appearance of the season and is working her way back up from 303rd in the rankings after injuries, gave a light-hearted response. She posted a photo on Instagram of her on court with a Dove deodorant edited into the frame above her hand, tagging the company and writing that they 'apparently need a collab.'

Elina Svitolina Wins Rouen Open, Her First Title In Nearly Two Years
Ukraine's Elina Svitolina won her first title in nearly two years after beating Serbian Olga Danilovic 6-4, 7-6(8) in the Rouen Open final in France on Sunday. Svitolina, the top seed, needed an hour and 58 minutes to beat third seed Danilovic to lift the trophy at the WTA 250 clay-court tournament. The last time Svitolina won a title was in Strasbourg in May 2023, less than two months into her comeback from maternity leave. Her only final since then came at the Auckland Open in January 2024 when she lost a three-set battle to Coco Gauff, the current world No. 4. Against Danilovic on Sunday, the Ukrainian had to dig deep in the second set, saving two set points down 6-4 in the tiebreak before converting her fourth championship point. Svitolina, wife of French player Gael Monfils, has played in 22 career WTA finals, losing only four times. She did not lose a set all week. "I feel very good, it was a good tournament for me," said Svitolina said after her victory. "Not an easy final, but very happy I could win all my matches in two sets and play good matches. I'm happy with the start of the season.' The Rouen Open title is Svitolina's 18th career title and seventh on clay. With the win, the former World extended her record in WTA singles finals to 18-4. "I feel confident about my game, I trust my game," the 30-year-old said. "The way it was from the beginning of the tournament, some players played really well, but I stayed calm and kept fighting,' Svitolina concluded. Finalist Danilovic also shared words of praise for champion Svitolina. 'First of all Happy Easter everyone. Second of all, congrats to Elina. Great tournament. Great week. You are a champion. I'm not gonna use any more words for you, because you are amazing," the 24-year-old Serbian said.
