Berkshire fire service opens new training centre
A state-of-the-art fire training centre has opened in Reading, replacing a previous facility damaged by flooding in Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) officially unveiled its new Learning and Development Centre in Whitley Wood on modular building - constructed offsite and installed in just four days - features solar panels, LED lighting and electric vehicle charging chief fire officer Wayne Bowcock said the centre was "befitting of a modern fire and rescue service" and would help staff "effectively serve the people of Berkshire." The facility is designed to host realistic training scenarios. Mayor of Reading Alice Mpofu-Coles, local MP Yuan Yang and councillors from across the county joined for the opening celebration for the new and chair of Royal Berkshire Fire Authority Jeff Brooks said he was "very pleased" with the new centre."This fantastic new facility represents a significant investment by the Fire Authority into our staff and will help prepare the Service to meet the changing needs of communities across Berkshire for years to come," he said. Cow stuck in water tank near Newbury freed by firefighters
A cow that had got itself stuck in an underground water tank was freed after firefighters worked for Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was told of the animal being "in distress" off Hangman's Stone Lane in Newbury about 08:10 BST on Thursday.A crew from Newbury and two Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue crews found the cow in the tank and, along with a vet, helped free crews returned to their respective stations after being on the scene for about three and a half hours. Exploding battery thought to have caused Ascot rubbish site fire
A fire that sent thick smoke into the sky around Ascot is thought to have been caused by a lithium battery crews from across Berkshire were sent to Shorts' landfill site in St George's Lane between 19:00 BST and 19:30 on said it was "very likely" the battery was unintentionally mixed in with general waste, apologised for the impact on the community and thanked the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service for its help."Our team works hard to separate waste correctly, but when batteries end up in general waste, they can pose a serious risk to staff, emergency services and the wider public," it said.
