Uber-popular Kwik Trip has once again been named the "Best Gas Station Brand" in the U.S., according to recent the 2025 USA TODAY 10BEST Road Trip Award Winners. This year, the La Crosse-based convenience store chain also topped the publication's list for "Best Gas Station for Food," after coming in third in 2024. Each week, USA TODAY 10BEST invites a panel of industry experts to nominate their favorite points of interest and attractions over a variety of categories. Editors vet nominations and select the final nominees, which are then voted on by the public to determine the final list. With more than 800 locations in six states and dedicated fans on and off of social media, Kwik Trip is nothing short of a sensation in the Midwest. It has more than 500 locations in Wisconsin alone and is almost always expanding its footprint. National Bored wife buys scratch-off to 'help pass the time' — and wins big in Maryland A bored woman bought a scratch-off ticket to help pass the time and won one of the game's top prizes in Maryland. Getty Images/iStockphoto A woman was 'feeling a little bored' while her husband was at work, so she took a trip to a local convenience store to help pass the time, Maryland lottery officials said. While at the Royal Farms in White Marsh, she bought a $10 spur-of-the-moment scratch-off ticket — and won one of the game's top prizes, officials said in a May 6 news release. The woman told lottery officials she plays Powerball and Mega Millions, but she's especially fond of $5 and $10 bingo and crossword scratch-offs. But she's never matched the numbers in the game's 'twist.' 'She was happily surprised' when she realized she had done it and 'checked the prize legend for Card #8 and learned she won one of the game's $100,000 top prize(s),' officials said. 'She told Lottery officials she had to look three times, because as many times as she has played the Bingo X10 game, she's never before matched numbers in the twist.' The winner doesn't have plans 'for her newfound fortune' as she's worked 25 years in the medical insurance field and has no plans to retire, officials said. Powerball player forgets ticket in glove box — then discovers big win weeks later
A man found his forgotten Powerball ticket in his glove box and won a big prize in Maryland. Now he's $50,000 richer. He bought the ticket for the March 29 drawing at a Royal Farms convenience store in Princess Anne, the Maryland Lottery said in an April 25 news release. The lottery player put it in his glove compartment and forgot about it. He remembered to bring it into a store to get checked weeks later when he went to buy more lottery tickets, lottery officials said. That's when he learned he had matched four white balls and the red Powerball and won the third-tier prize of $50,000, the lottery office said. The state employee plans to use his winnings to pay bills. Princess Anne is about a 135-mile drive southeast from Baltimore.
