Shivay Singh of UP pips Maharashtra's Sudip Patil to win Royal Jaipur Under-1800 Classical Fide Rating Chess tournament title

Jaipur: Shivay Singh of Uttar Pradesh edged past Maharashtra's Sudip Patil to clinch the crown as the three-day Royal Jaipur Under-1800 Classical Fide Rating Chess tournament concluded here on Sunday. An eight-year-old Prayagraj boy Shivay and Sudip both ended up with eight points each to their credit but on the basis of better tie-break scores, the former was declared champion. Shivay drew his final two rounds to remain unbeaten in the nine-round competition. Rajasthan's Kavyansh Jain bagged the bronze medal, while Madhav Bharadia finished fifth. Aritrya Pal of West Bengal placed fourth. Tarun Rawal, Mallika Arjun, DIG Railway Police, Tarun Tak, CEO IT Voice, Jayendra Chaturvedi, organising secretary, Vijendra Chaturvedi, Ravi Bajaj, director, Royal Jaipur Chess Club, Mahendra Chaturvedi, Amrish Joshi, trustee, Waves, KG Sharma of Dausa District Chess Association and chief arbiter Nilesh Kumawat were present during the prize distribution function. Final standings 1. Shivay Singh (UP), 2. Sudip Patil (Maharashtra), 3. Kavyansh Jain (Rajasthan), 4. Aritrya Pal (West Bengal), 5. Madhav Bharadia (Rajasthan), 6. Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay (M), 7. Rohit Rahulkumar J (Gujarat), 8. Sushant Tiwari (Delhi), 9. Arpit Saxena (Rajasthan), 10. Vatsal Chokhra (Rajasthan). Final round key results Shivay Singh (8) drew with Rohit Rahulkumar J (7.5); Sushant Tiwari (7) lost to Sudip Patil (8); Deepak Rai (6.5) lost to Aritrya Pal (7.5); Madhav Bharadia (7.5) bt Tavish Bansal (6.5); Tanay Saboo (6.5) lost to Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay (7.5); Kavyansh Jain (7.5) bt Dhruv Gupta (6.5); Vatsal Chokhra (7) drew with Arpit Saxena (7).
