Heartfelt tributes paid to Russell Haigh of Wrexham
Russell Anthony Haigh passed away suddenly on July 10 at Wrexham Maelor Hospital. He was just 63-years-old.
Originally from Huddersfield, Yorkshire, Russell moved to the Wrexham area in 1991 when he married his loving wife, Julia Thomas Haigh. Together, they had a son, Alfie George.

For over 17-years, Russell worked faithfully for Royal Mail and in 2008, he was invited to a special ceremony in London to receive a Royal Mail Chairman's Award.
The award recognised and honoured Russell's commitment to the company, and the many visits to Wrexham schools to discuss what life was like as a Postman with the children. He even drove the swanky new vans so pupils could have a turn sitting in it!

In his spare time, and particularly following his retirement eight-years-ago, Russell volunteered at Ysgol Heulfan/Y Canol in Gwersyllt.
The school was recently inspected, and he was personally thanked for his hard work over the years.
"He thought so much of the children", said wife and headteacher Julia, who says he was involved with the school for the best part of two-decades in total.
So many kind and thoughtful words and condolences have been shared in memory of Russell (Image: UGC)
"He was my right-hand man. And when he retired from the Post Office, he gave all of his time to the school.
"Russell was so highly thought of by the parents, too. We've had special cards and messages from so many of the pupils and staff, he truly was such a great friend to everybody and will be greatly missed there."
In fact, there was nothing Russell couldn't do. Whether it was gardening, decorating or organising football sessions for pupils - he was a hero to many, and his presence is truly missed.

"He'd also go and get fruit for the children twice a week, and was quite sneaky bringing the students custard creams when he discovered they were a favourite", Julia said.
And his compassionate and caring nature continued long into retirement when 13-years-ago, Russell signed up to become a foster carer.
Julia explained: "He turned to me one day and just said he needed to give something back."

Indeed, Russell's main role throughout his life was his devotion to his family and he was always looking after other people.
Son Alfie said his dad also thoroughly enjoyed playing golf and was a huge football fan. He had supported Leeds United since he was a young boy.
Since his passing, the family has received over 20 bouquets of flowers - so many that they've had to buy new vases! A book of condolence has also been arranged at the school.
The Heulfan Governing Body said: "Russ was an incredible man and such a huge part of the school family. He will be so missed."
Karen Chard, a parent of a child at the school, said: "He was a huge part of Heulfan and he will be sorely missed. We all have plenty of fond memories of him with the football, Wimbledon trips, and playing Santa to name a few."
Russell is described as 'kind, funny and thoughtful', 'a true gent' and 'simply amazing' by parents and students, who will miss him dearly.

Julia continued: "Russ was the perfect husband to me and an amazing dad to Alfie George.
"He was a true gentleman, loyal, kind and greatly cherished by those who knew him.
"We are so grateful to our family, friends and Heulfan family for all of their love and support."
A funeral service will be held at Pentrebychan Crematorium, Wrexham, on Tuesday, July 29 at 3pm.
Donations may be given in memory for Ysgol Heulfan/Y Canol.
