Archer County Museum and Art Center to preserve history with Jailbird Fundraiser
ARCHER CO. (KFDX/KJTL) — People in Archer County will soon be raising 'bail money' as a fundraiser to support the Archer County Museum and Art Center. The ACMAC Jailbird Fundraiser is Saturday, March 29th, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Royal Theater on 113 E Main St, Archer City, TX 76351. Catholic charities serve and give back event The jail opened in 1910 before closing in 1974 and then being turned into a museum; however, the city eventually sold it because it could no longer afford maintenance expenses. Now, the ACMAC is working to raise funds to preserve the jail. This unique fundraiser sees people from Archer County and the surrounding areas come together to serve as 'inmates' seeking help raising their 'bail money,' with all the proceeds going toward saving the old jail. They've recently been working on roof repairs, which are almost done thanks to the fundraising efforts. Board member Jodi Shawver said that, as a history enthusiast, she encourages everyone to go out for a fun and unique experience. 'People should come to see the history and come to see what your friends have done so far. Last year was my first year to be involved. I didn't really know much about what was going on.' Jodi Shawver, Board Member, recalls. 'I thought I wasn't going to be released until I raised enough funds. And, luckily, it was a tour of the jail, a picture, and then, you know, kind of asking people, hey, I'm raising money. Will you help raise?' The night of history and fun will also include great food, entertainment, and plenty of competition. More information on registering for the fundraiser and festivities can be found here.
