Accountant robbed of cash & valuables worth 28k
Pune: An autorickshaw driver and his two accomplices robbed a 24-year-old Navi Mumbai-based accountant of cash, a cellphone and ornaments, collectively worth Rs28,700, after threatening him with a sharp weapon on the pretext of ferrying him to Shivajinagar. The incident occurred between the Pune railway station and Royal Western India Turf Club on the Pune-Solapur highway around 3.15am on Sunday. Sub-inspector Ashish Jadhav of the Wanowrie police on Monday said the accountant, Avdhut Mane, a resident of Belapur in Navi Mumbai, reached the Pune railway station by train from Panvel. Mane boarded the auto rickshaw with two men present inside to reach the Shivajinagar bus terminus for boarding a bus to Bhimashankar temple. The trio sped away towards Pune station. A police team has identified the vehicle registration number of the rickshaw, and the driver and his accomplices will be arrested soon, he said, adding that an FIR relating to the robbery was registered on Sunday.

Pune season set to gallop from July 18
The 2025 Pune racing season is set to get underway at the picturesque Pune race course from July 18, and will end on November 2, according to the prospectus advertised by the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC). The season will comprise of 20 race days spanning over the four months with over ₹12 crore in prize money on offer. 726 horses, including 274 two-year-olds, are stationed in Pune. The season has the participation of 31 A-Licence Trainers and 4 B-licence trainers, alongside 48 licensed jockeys. There will be no restrictions on the participation of outstation horses, except in the lower class. The key sponsors with their magnanimous contributions are the Poonawalla Group, M/s. Raptakos Brett & Co, Mr. K.N. Dhunjibhoy & Family, M/s. Supreme, Mr. Cyrus S. Poonawalla, M/s. S.R.S. Group, Yerawada Stud & Agricultural Farm, Mr. C.D. Katrak, Rotary District 3131, Panchshil and Aakriti Art Gallery. Adding a touch of flair and festivity, Pune Cartel will host carnival-style events at the members' enclosure at the race course on select weekends.
