RH Opens Second Design Gallery in Canada

MILAN — RH chief executive officer Gary Friedman admitted in June that his business was 'rocked' by reciprocal tariffs, but that's not stopping him from expanding in Canada. On a mission to create the most immersive, physical experience in design, RH has opened its second design gallery in Canada and first design gallery location in the province of Quebec, the firm said Thursday. RH Montreal, The Gallery at Royalmount is located on Quebec's centrally located Chemin de la Côte-de-Liesse. The three-story structure spans more than 49,000 square feet and brings together RH Interiors, its Modern and Outdoor collections, RH's Interior design office, along with art and antiques, all under one roof. It also houses a dramatic glass encased rooftop restaurant, which opens into a landscaped garden. More from WWD Brown Thomas Supports Homegrown Talent Robyn Lynch With Exclusive Capsule Bal Harbour Shops' Roving Mini Mall on the Road Again Boots to Open Stand-alone Fragrance Store Opening the Montreal design gallery is key to Friedman's plan to expand the RH brand globally. His strategy has been focused on opening immersive, convivial spaces that engage with markets on a local level and that keep consumers coming back. During a conference call with analysts in June, he contended this local-centric strategy represents a 'multibillion-dollar opportunity.' In the second half of the year, RH will open design galleries in strategic locations. The Paris opening will take place in September during the Maison&Objet design trade show. Other locations are planned for Detroit; Manhasset in Long Island, New York; San Diegom, and Palm Desert, as well as London and Milan in 2026. Despite a challenging housing market, the worst in 50 years, RH forecasted revenue growth of 10 to 13 percent in fiscal 2025, an adjusted operating margin of 14 to 15 percent and an adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization margin of 20 to 21 percent. RH shares are still recovering from the near five-year low they hit after the 'Liberation Day' duties announced by U.S. President Donald Trump on April 2. Since then, the firm has shifted sourcing out of China and rerouted a significant portion of its upholstered furniture to its own North Carolina factory, the firm said. Tensions remain high between the U.S. and Canada. The North American nation has less than a week to reach a trade deal with Trump following his threat to impose 35 percent tariffs on Canadian exports starting Aug. 31. According to Italy's Pambianco Consulting division, RH is the second largest maker of high-end furniture, by sales, in the world. It posted $3.03 billion in sales in 2024. Royalmount one year later: Has it won over Montrealers?

The Corner Booth Royalmount is getting ready to turn one. After opening last September to equal parts fanfare and skepticism, the megamall is settling into a groove as more and more tenants set up shop in the 800,000-square-foot space. But has Royalmount succeeded in winning over the hearts and minds of discerning local shoppers accustomed to hitting the high-end stores downtown? And will the next phases of developing offices and housing come to fruition? Carbonleo CEO Andrew Lutfy talked about the ups and downs of the behemoth where Highways 15 and 40 meet on this week's episode of The Corner Booth at Snowdon Deli with hosts Aaron Rand and Bill Brownstein. 'We opened with a boom,' Lutfy said. 'The first three months had an amazing amount of curiosity, the place was packed. And then I would say there was a settling down. Around November, it was a more normalized state. Since then, we've been building every single month.' Now, Lutfy said they're taking market share from more established competitors. 'Habits are a big thing. You have to change habits.' But Lutfy isn't immune to online chatter, either. Specifically videos of empty, cavernous corridors and parking lots. Where does the truth lie? Is Royalmount bustling or barren? 'I'm looking at these videos and this is real clickbait stuff, the person is there after hours or seven o'clock in the morning,' Lutfy said. 'I'm a marketing guy. I liked that these posts got hundreds of thousands of likes and incredible engagement. They actually went viral. ... Whether they're talking about us in a positive light or a negative light, at least they're talking about us.'

David Yurman opens flagship boutique in Miami's Design District

American luxury jeweler David Yurman opened on Thursday its latest flagship boutique in the heart of Miami's Design District. Designed under the creative leadership of president and chief creative officer Evan Yurman, the space is a collaboration with Italian architect Andrea Tognon and consulting creative director Bernadette Blanc. Together, they've created what the brand describes as a 'design playground for artists and jewelry devotees'. "We are thrilled to be opening our new Miami flagship in the center of the art community," said Evan Yurman. "As a brand founded by two artists, this space reflects our family legacy and shared vision to create beautiful things that inspire us–whether that be our product, store experience, or design. Collaborating with Andrea Tognon and Bernadette Blanc, we believed there was no better location to debut this one-off concept in a neighborhood fueled by artistic fervor and heritage that attracts many of our existing and future consumers.' The façade was cut from a gigantic volume of stone, fused with a metallic paint, and detailed with an extruded logo. Inside, stone finishes adorn the fixtures, while a stepped wall of vertically cut granite moves in a curve, displayed like a necklace. David Yurman's signature Cable design also appears in refined architectural touches such as a sculpted entrance handrail and a custom vitrine under the staircase. Upstairs, a private salon overlooking the Design District offers a curated experience with the brand's Men's, Women's, and High Jewelry collections, displayed alongside artwork and personal pieces from David Yurman's own archive. The store opens with exclusive styles, inspired by Miami's magnetic atmosphere, landscapes, and tropical sunsets, including pieces featuring bold and semi-precious stones in electric pinks, neon greens, cobalt blue, and fire orange. "The retail world is constantly rethinking itself," said Tognon. "As we collaborated with Evan Yurman on this project, our main goal was innovation coexisting with the brands rich heritage. Working together, we were able to design a classic design ground in which new and existing consumers can feel comfortable exploring.' Most recently, David Yurman opened a new boutique in Montreal, within Royalmount. It currently operates 49 retail stores throughout the United States, Canada, Hong Kong and France.
